Dude your a Genius, I've only been producing for year now with ableton, (most sophisticated and creative program ever) but this definitely was s useful tool for many upcoming ideas. And I have a legitimate question. I am a current comm entertainment major and want to continue producing and I was considering going to school to get an audio engineering degree once I'm done with my BA. Would this be useful and worth the cash If I'm completely serious about continuing independently or with a label
Hey all! Im a beginner with all this stuff and im struggling to find my multiband dynamics plugin, ive looked all over live devices on my live 8 software and its just not there. Where can i get this plugin because i would like to complete this tutorial :(
dj vesper why do you use ableton and why do you prefer it over other daws such as fl studio reason, or logic? is because one is better or does it just come down to personal preference?
@AndreDeSatterlee It has everything you need. if you are new to producing, start off with something like fl. Ableton utilises the great things from just about every daw and more. it has a balance of everything. its hard to use at first, but if ur a quick learner u will pick up the basics pretty easy, there are also heaps of tuts like this to show you how to use it. Dadalife, Deadmau5, Skrillex, David guetta, Flux Pavilion and many other EDM producers use it.
@Oxymoron808 oh i see. ive been using fl for almost 2 years now and know almost everything about it. But i hear so many great things about ableton live. But what makes it so good and popular? Because ive never seen a feature that ableton had that fl doesnt. or vice versa. I think you should make a video about why you like ableton live so that you can give insight to fairly new producers like me!
Great tutorial, Brohams. I am pleased there are producers out there that will touch basis on advanced production techniques. Kudos Vespers. Keep up the good work, mate.
have you tried making tuts like sonic academy 'how to make' different genres of music? I think that with your knowledge you could cover a lot of ground that is usual missed out on a lot of these tutorials. the explanation of comps. eqs, limiters etc... i find that ableton gives a great opportunity to make music but also makes it easier for people to miss what comps. limiters etc...actually do. make sense? anyway great job as usual
May I make a requst though? Could you spend some time on stripping the vocals out and leaving everything else in? I've tried just using a band reject filter and I find that I can't isolate enough of the signal without loosing too many other mids. Is pulling out the vocals and doing phase cancellation the right choice?
amazing tutorial. quick question, is there anything you can do if there is another track almost grouped with the vocals? im trying to acapellize wynter gordons "til death", and after this tutorial ive made it perfect besides this one melody that i cant seem to phase at all. its from the original version. thanks a ton
vespers you put some much out without asking for anything in return, thanks for all the uploads. I have been producing for nearly ten years but I still learn heaps from your videos. If your ever in England there will be food and drink waiting :-)
May be u would like to do a tut about upward comp. Cause i dont know if its the right way to maximise my subbasses with this method.
My way is to build 2 sine osc, The second one is upset about 35-50 cents to get a kind of wobbling with phase extinction. Feed it with some pitch modulation and after this it gets into the multiband dynamics where i try to extend the level between quit and loud. It´s a groove tool. brg

Cool video, but I would also add a volume envelope on the original, where every bit of non vocal material is silenced to begin with, then apply all of your techniques..
@darthbrooklyn For sure you could do this. Great suggestion. Just depends on how time consuming you want the technique to be. To rip a whole vocal out by doing volume envelope work would take at least several hours, unless you have a trained Ableton monkey. That would be sweet.

Dry/Wet may not work as "expected" in some cases if the multi-band crossover points aren't linear phase.

Great tutorial. Another way to get varied but usually good results is to use the Utility plugin > "difference" preset.
