@tagaphon Actually my principle Russian friend worked for a USSR sponsored oil distribution company , befor the fall of the Soviet Union , and after 1991 I met his father who spoke very good English , and fought against the Nazi's in the 2nd world war . I'd hardly call these people traitors to their country , and 600 seconds used to be aired by channel 5 , with English subtitles , because perhaps that English people might be intrested in the inner workings of a great country.

@Wad12br If I were you I'd checked all the same the information in other sources. 600 sec was a good program, but a little bias. As well as your friends. I do admit that top managers have it better in West than in Soviet Union. But as you are spending evening before your PC and not in night club, you hardly belong to top managers.

The USSR was the greatest country in the world. Nowdays russia - is just a shadow of Russian Empire and the USSR.

@FessAlvasete: To be fair USSR had both good and bad things about it. I wont say its the greatest country of the world because millions of innocent lives were lost in Gulags and feminines. But in its hay day USSR was certainly very powerful no doubt it.
