  • glory daaaaaze

  • Dj Tiesto Version kicks asses

  • gary jules version is more touching in tone..

there is distinct difference, its all subjective opinion on which one is better

  • wierd I've only listen to an alt metal version of this song but I liek the original better, Gary jules' is good too but this one has somthing you can't really copy which is cool.

  • Better than the Gary Jules version!

  • thats because you can't beat the original, it has that spirit that you can't even have if you made a carbon copy fo the song.

  • I agree. It is very rare for a cover to be better than the original. And some artists just can't be covered, like Michael Jackson.

  • this takes me back to my teens, those were the days, i loved this song

  • the 80s were so eccentric! great

  • im only 8 years old my dad showed it to me

  • i love the dude dancing in the background. thats f'ing hilarious!

  • I like this song, but I like the Gary Jules version better. I think the piano sounds better when compared to that strange beat they've got going on in the background here.

  • This kills my philosophy of "the original is always the best and/or better". I mean, if Ihad listened to this first, I might have a chance of liking it better...but I just like Gary Jules better.

And stop using "emo" like you idiots even know what it means. Look up "soul, jazz, blues, drama, emotion, and heart" before you start talking crap like that about it.

  • There's some folks here who don't seem to remember the 80s, that's ok, possibly you were still in nappies,

but part of the iconography of that period was dance in music and gender-bending.

  • Can you watch this without laughing?

  • Nope... the dancing guy always gets me.

  • I think i can. Can anyone else watch this without calling this guy an idiot O:?

  • yes

  • Im with _FaithIsAnnoyed_; people shouldnt make fun of the dancing part. I dont mind it. hehe

  • Dude...that's because you weren't born in the 80's.

    Oh, wait...if that kind of logic applied, I'd hate 70's folk music and 60's disco...which I don't.

Maybe you just have poor taste!

  • Well, I was born in the 90's, and I mostly listen to 60's, 80's and 90's. And the 00's too. But I love 80's and 90's.

  • @Lucario1211 lol skip out the best era the 70's, all the ones u listed are good.every time had their great ones

  • this song has invaded my brain and is slowly awesomeing it from the inside out

  • i think that this version and the gary jules version are very different. they are both good but in different ways

  • Tears for Fears>Gary Jules

    It's ORIGINAL!

  • this version is much better, express something frantic music is amazing.

The Gary Jules version is not saying that is bad, but after 30 seconds the song is boring.

  • After 27 years this is still the best version...the frantic fast flow of this gives it a paranoid feeling, which I think suits the lyrics better.

Gary Jules is alright, but after the first verse it gets boring because there is no change.....this version never lets up.

Oh and you people who make fun of the dancing guy in this video...show some respect because he is the man who wrote this song, without him there would be no Gary Jules.

  • RIGHT!

  • haha that dancing makes me laugh XD great song tho, but have to say i like the slower version by gary jules a little better.

  • fast and spastic*

  • technically this one is the best b/c w/o this one there would never be any of the covers!

  • gary jules is gud if ur sad and wanna be cheered up i think.

  • i think tears for fears orignal is better than gary jules and the rest of the tributes wat ye think???

  • So 80's, So awesome.

  • the cover has a way stronger effect

  • its really good, just think if you havent heard the cover, Its just different. but i do think it has a better effect with just the piano, but i give them props because they wrote it.

  • I want to know what's with the random dance pieces?

  • Building a tower up high to the sky.

To God I reach, apricot pie.

    Nowhere 'sept down

says the squirrel to the moon.

A child somewhere pops a purple balloon.

  • what are you mean lovesock? This song is good!

  • i own this tape,i play in my car so much

  • i think the energy and fast tempo in this original version doesnt the emotional effect that jule's more somber version gives off. jules version conveys sadness and a tinge of regret while the original one just directly states its message w/o the emotion

  • The world keeps moving ahead even if you slow down/stop.

  • Actually...I think this is the original version...considering it's 27 years old...the popular version appears to be more recent.

  • and you're not an idiot

  • yes it is

  • yes it is

  • I hope you realize this is totally gay :)

  • I think this sing was made for a more slow tempo beat.

  • legendary dance.

  • this is much better

  • Rais arms this is a REAL SONG!!!

  • I like this version the best :) Gary Jules murdered it with a frankly dull cover imo.

  • I personaly don't like this version. I think that the Gary Jules version is the best as it really makes you feel the beauty and sadness of the lyrics where as, even though this is the original version, it fails to capture the deep meaning to the words.

I frist heard this song (the Gary Jules version, i mean!) on the film Donnie Darko but now listening to this and the Evergreen Terrace version kind of ruins it for me. I do, however, really like the Adam lambert version when he sang it on Idol.

  • same with me

  • When people think of mad world, they only see Gary Juliets pop version. So sad... its beautiful.

  • either way TFF version stil the best the keyboards n singing bring back best memories when i was young n amazed by them

  • gary jules version is better.

  • Lol.. when he started dancing he reminded me of Napoleon Dynamite.

  • you're all forgetting one more version of the song. listen to the version by evergreen terrace. its completely different from both gary jules' and tears for fears' verions, but i like it.

  • The lyrics aren't necessarily sad as much as they are brazenly apathetic.

  • for some reason this song makes me calm and relax when im angry or sad. idk why. it just does.

  • same but the not the tears for fears one

  • I believe this song portays "MAD" world much more effectively, but I also don't think a song has to be a certain way to get it's point across. Gary Jules's version of Mad World gives me the point of view from someone who's experienced the "Mad World" and how it can totally corrupt and depress a person. It's soothing and dark. Either/or, both songs show you this "Mad World" from two different points of view. I think they're both amazing songs and neither of them are better than the other.

  • i really like the other one alot better not gonna lie lol

  • really can't decide which I like more, both very effective :P

  • really cool...totally different from adams... :P

  • the thing that made me appreciate this version is someone who said on this page "it's called MAD world, not sad world!"

that's so true. I love the other version, quite a lot better, in fact that's why it's many times more popular isn't it? but anyway if you realise that this version is the original and it's not a sad song, it's a song that gets you thinking about how mad they all are. I dunno. think of it that way.

  • this is more depressing than the jules version in my opinion. The fact that the song is set to a sort of pop beat makes you feel how emotionless the singer is and makes it even more of a 'mad world' than if he pointed out the sadness of the lyrics with accompanying music beat.

  • so 80's. I love it.

  • i just like the mood the other version gives off. this seems a little upbeat for the lyrics. both are good though

  • your all pathetic.... they are simply different..

NEITHER IS BETTER YOU TRY HARDS

thats the point of covering a song, to offer a different experiance of a well loved song.

you all have to realise that your personal opinion is not fact.

you cant compare its apples and orranges

  • u are completely right, everything is permitted not true

  • Of course one can be better.

    Its called an opinion

And to say is neither is better means you must enjoy both equally, which clearly some people don't.

A totally inane opinion, you fool.

  • exactly .... the only possible conclusion is opinion.... therefore neither can be BETTER there is no comparable scale with witch to make the comparison.... only each individuals specific tastes.... therefore you may LIKE one version BETTER but that doesent make it better.

get a grasp of the english language before you accuse me of being inane.

  • Are you mad? this absolutely trumps the Gary Jules version by a mile, love the beat and the trumpet instrumentals. Besides, its supposed to be called mad world, not sad world, so all Jules fans can go and slit their wrists.

  • The Gary Jules version made me cry because it's so emotional so I thought I'd check out the original. It made me cry because I was so disappointed. This is the first time I've heard T4F, had heard OF them before... I shan't be looking into them any further.

  • I really really like tears for fears. Dont give up on them! Head over heals is a good song. AND most of the songs on donnie darko are tears for fears.

  • original for ever this is awesome. gary jules can eat his own balls

  • Is there a name given to the way the guy dances in this video? Makes me think of "tecktonik" but.. well the 80's version of it ;P

  • @theCheshireRabbit ...Yes there is..CRAP! hee hee.

  • i rekon both the cover and the tears for fears songs are good, they are diff so it's interesting to listen to both cus they are both awsome

  • tears for fears...ahh one of those good bands that goes very underrated. no one i know knows who they are when i ask "do u know tears for fears?" but when i play one of their songs they all know the band.

  • Tears For Fears was orignial. Is great for upbeat.Really like it for that when I am in mood. Gary Jules Just hits me where I am most of the time!

  • i remember this song from the gears of war commercial

  • This version doesn't make me wanna kill myself, so I'm giving a thumbs up to the original.

  • Actually, Jules' version always got on my nerves because it was just SO angsty. This one is maybe not angsty enough.

  • Gary Jules' version of this one song is better, but Tears for Fears have tons of songs I like, and I'm not really fond of any version of this song.

  • great song. I spent hours with my girlfiend in high school (84-87) listening to this song. It carries so many memories for me. Most of them are sad.

  • do you still live with your mom??

  • this one is terrible to up tempo its ment to be more slow

  • Hey stupid, Tears for Fears wrote this song so I think the tempo is perfect the way they thought it should be.

  • The cover will NEVER be as good as the original FACT!

  • i like the gary jules one better this almost was a halloween background and you barely here the singing

  • You obviously have no taste in music. So tell me other than mad world what has gary jules done...nothing thats what.

  • geez its just a comment and SRRY if i don't like this song as much as you do its just an opinion don't take it like somebodies insulting you! (and sometimes i listen to 80's music!!!)

  • i can't help but prefer the cover

  • Though my favourite songs mostly or completely have Roland singing in (Sowing The Seeds Of Love, Cold, Raoul and The Kings of Spain...) I still very much like Mad World and Pale Shelter.

  • I think both versions are as good

  • Sounda too punk. Very 80"s. Bit ir is the original so I need tio give it props. TFF is a dep band. Great lyrics,.

  • This is the Original, Jules did a cover...

  • Orginal is better

  • sometimes a cover beats the original. . not in this case.

  • Gary Jules version may sound good recorded, but I'll tell you from seeing him live that he can't sing for crap and butchered this song live!!! I like Jules, but NOTHING WILL EVER BE BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL!!! NOT EVEN MY VERSION COMPARES TO THIS ONE!!!!!!

  • LOL!! I don't know about your version but I totally agree, I like this original version the best!

  • = HINT check my version:p

  • I think that the slower version and music by Jules fits more the lyrics, ut we have to congratz the man who wrote the lyrics! So, thanks for this song so amazing!

  • And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad.. when people say Jules is better it's a very very, mad world.

  • I´m getting tired of people comparing the original with Gary Jules version, to me they´re just too different. I really can´t say wich one I prefer, it depends on what mood I´m in. But people just have to claim this or that to be the "better" one.

  • I agree! Gary Jules wouldn't have a version of this if Tears for Fears never wrote it.

  • @allowah6 REALLY???

  • Fucken smart arse

  • damn straight

  • I like Gary Jules version too, but this one's got a nice beat.

  • JULES= J. McCain and Tears for Fears=B.Obama who is better in politics?

  • jules's version is FAR superior... but obviously a massive amount of credit has to be given to the original artist. genius lyrics and melody.

  • gary jules so much better!

  • i like gary jules version better but this is ok

  • lol gary jules dang it way better.

  • přes měsíc mi ta písnička vrtala hlavou v českosl.superstar..šel jsem dnes najisto..)jo!+30

  • i like all versions accept that fag adams or watever u want to call him but i guess i really dont like these 80's dance moves lol great song though

  • where gary jules cover is good, it is simply not as good the original.

this instrumentation and vocal delivery is excellent.

  • Comment removed

  • gary jules version is better in my opinion

  • @plottotakethemdown

But he didn't write it, Tears For Fears did. His is simply a cover.

  • Still better.

  • i don't care killswitch engage didn't write holy diver but itss way better than the dio album version(live it's fucking awesome)

  • Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck youuuuuuuuu

  • Klasická osmdesátka...

  • i love all versions of this song. its just a great song all around.

  • Tears For Fears Version of MAD WORLD is the BEST!!!.......... The others....GARY and ADAM are just cover version.....

  • imagine if they done the 1st GOW trailer with this

  • haha that wouldn't have worked out very well

  • i think both versions are good. depending on what kind of music you are into. this one's good if you like the 80's style and gary's version if you like slower and more mellow music.

  • @Schrackattak

The first period should be a comma, and the second sentence is missing "is better" or similar after "gary's version". Nothing is capitalized. Please review your grammar.

  • what is wrong with you sonic? does grammar matter on this?

  • cool dude

  • listen to brandi carlile's version. it's absolutely incredible.

  • got to love the original. without these guys this song would never existed and gary would of never made the new version.

  • i dont see how anyone can diss this song. its the original, and not to mention how awesome it is

  • yupe, end his version is way better!

  • no its not, this is duh

  • wrong

  • @cybernight786 nah this is the orginal sry buddy

  • @cybernight786

Ha, actually Gary would have been about 13 when this song came out.

  • Umm actually, this is the original, buddy.

  • wow for real?? dirent know that but i prefer the other guys version idk th enamer of the due but i liek that version better its more calmind

  • @valles666

You truly show advanced mastery of the English language, specifically English grammar and spelling.

I would recommend retaking third grade English.

  • @ sonicDragonwerkz Here mate we don't need a grammar lesson we came on to listen to the song not to help us learn English

  • Comment removed

  • @cybernight786 lolwtf are you retarded gary jules' version is a cover.

  • Don't even try to compare the gary jules version to this....

this one is way better no doubt no second guessing

  • fuck it's to fast :c !

  • You gotta be kidding!!!!

  • i like gary jules better even though TFF wrote it lol i like it cause its darker this is like woooooooooo weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeooooooooo

    lol

  • Gary Jules sort of made the way the song was done, fit the lyrics alot better. I like it, but the lyrics sorta... don't match the tempo of the up-beat '80's style of music. It's good in it's own respect, but Gary Jules pretty much made the song his own, with the way he sung it, and how he choose the instrumental piece to fit the vocals.

  • i think of Donnie Darko when i hear this song

  • The lyrics to this song capture how i'm feeling right now.i keep playing it and it sort of comforts me a little.

  • Don't talk like that it makes u worse - we've all been fed up, message me and I'll get u thru it in a heartbeat - but enjoy the feeling while it lasts - it's better than making a fortune

  • it reminds me of the song "somebody's watching me"

i have no idea why...it just does, and it's really bugging me.

  • this is great...both the vid and the song

  • Reminds me of my teen years.... They don't make 'em like this anymore

  • the "new wave" style makes this version better

  • i like gary jules version better personally...the music and the way he sings it [gary] just fits the lyrics better! this is almost too upbeat for this type of song.

  • is this the original? :L heavy english accent good on ya ! :D im english :P

  • wht the hells the deal with the damn commericals

  • This song is an orgasm.

Music like this doesn't exist today.

What a pity for the world!
