I personaly don't like this version. I think that the Gary Jules version is the best as it really makes you feel the beauty and sadness of the lyrics where as, even though this is the original version, it fails to capture the deep meaning to the words.

I frist heard this song (the Gary Jules version, i mean!) on the film Donnie Darko but now listening to this and the Evergreen Terrace version kind of ruins it for me. I do, however, really like the Adam lambert version when he sang it on Idol.

I believe this song portays "MAD" world much more effectively, but I also don't think a song has to be a certain way to get it's point across. Gary Jules's version of Mad World gives me the point of view from someone who's experienced the "Mad World" and how it can totally corrupt and depress a person. It's soothing and dark. Either/or, both songs show you this "Mad World" from two different points of view. I think they're both amazing songs and neither of them are better than the other.

this is more depressing than the jules version in my opinion. The fact that the song is set to a sort of pop beat makes you feel how emotionless the singer is and makes it even more of a 'mad world' than if he pointed out the sadness of the lyrics with accompanying music beat.

Gary Jules sort of made the way the song was done, fit the lyrics alot better. I like it, but the lyrics sorta... don't match the tempo of the up-beat '80's style of music.
