  • absolutely awesome!

  • Martin.... I notice the strings are sitting very high on the nut. Does the dobro have a hawaiian style (square) neck? It's hard to tell from the pic in the video. Love your music!! :)))

  • ok. this guy/= beast. this guy> beast

  • I was happy with my collection of stringed instruments until I started watching your darn video's, now I have to make room for a resonator. lol

  • DUDE YOU ROCK!!!!!!..

  • is yhis normal tuning?very nice by the way

    .

  • Mr Martin do you have lessons on playing this as well as your tkae on amazing grace? Also, another question what gauge and brand of strings do you use? 16's?

  • @WhiteGrass03

the guitar is an early (not sure what year) maple R-body Scheerhorn. Martin is a good friend of mine and I have plenty of opportunity to play this guitar. It's an incredible dobro.

  • thank you

  • Wow-so smooth. No hesitation with a constant steady barrage of notes comin out of that thing. Beautiful stuff man. On one of your other vids you talked about tuning the high b to an a for pedal steel-esque bends-and now I use that technique all the time! Thanks a lot you rock

  • U rock dude !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ohhhhh my that was awesome ...WOW

  • that was great

  • very good picking

  • @MartinGross

martin what tuning is this in?

  • what's the tuning? open G?

  • It´s open G

    GBDGBD low to high

  • Martin, I'm 70 but I will master some your great licks....love that little roll your doin with finger 2 and 3....dont suppose you'd slow that down in a little lesson for some of us 'ol' timers? I've been working like a mad man for 3 months on this dobro thing....

  • Oh My Hell....Artist here in the USA are good but Martin your the Master!!

  • Dang it man! That's some good pickin.

  • Who are you?

  • my parents got me some of those types of finger things and I have no idea how to use them... lol.

  • Great pickin'!!! Love all your videos....

  • I red in the comments your tuned to GBDgbd for this piece, not DGDgbd like open G?

And why G and not D? D (Dadf#ad) seems closer to the original Dadgad tunning to me. Anyway great rendition!!! Had me tappin my feet trough the whole song :)

    Cheers! Frans.

  • Hi Frans,

the standard tuning for sqareneck resoplaying is DBGDBG

( from high to low ). I play 90 % in that tuning.

  • your great!

    Thanks for post!

    5 star!

  • Baddass !!!

  • now that was great job

  • Excelente!!! BRAAAVO!

  • Love this! Great rendition of a wonderful song :)

  • WOW! I'm glad someone did a slide rendition. This is impressive to say the least.

  • Nice pickin'!

  • Gotta listen to *that* more than once! Love it. Good job, Martin!

    DobroSue

  • Does your guitar do drugs? Because the action is HIIIIIIIIIIGH!!!!!!!

  • it's supposed to be if you look the nut is a lot higher its the way a square neck dobro is set up

  • this is where the little drum comes in after a punch line..

    kadoo..pish..

or something along the lines of that sound effect...

  • uh, is this a joke?

  • Is what a joke?

  • mentioning high action.

  • is a dobro bruh...

  • lol, hahaha

u set the action high on any slide guitar, resonator on not. i never played dobro, but got a high action on one of the gibsons i use for sliding.

  • @NamekujiSmash its called a dobbro moron lol jkjk. but its a dobore/slide guitar/steal guitar- what have you. go live in the south somewhere for a little while haha

  • Hi Gundel,

there will be a learning DVD that comes along with tabulatur and slow recorded videos including MAN OF CONSTANT SORROW. Give me some more time and watch out for the release on my web site.

    Martin

  • Amazing!

When you create a tabulature i'd also love to know the tuning if you have the tab...that would be soooooooooooo nice. Lots of regards, Gundel

  • Your right hand is amazing - always ready to play the next note. Fabulous! My strap is on the way.

  • FRUMOS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I look forward to the Tabs. I bouhgt a Ron Phillips guitar. Superbe!

  • Wow, man I wish you stick with it............now that I know that I´m resposible :-))

    GBDGBD low to high.

    5 stars!

  • Excellent! 5*'s!

  • i think its just the binding that i see,but is that nut cut different to allow the B,D(A&D) strings to be close?

  • its the binding. notice that the "string" you see there dosnt move when he er... i guess you'd say when he frets the strings with the slide.

  • thanks for responding, right after i asked the question i seen the base of the guitar strings by the bridge...i think i was just looking for some secret why he can play this good...lol

  • lmao no worries. i asked the exact same question on a video about a year ago. the only diference, was that i was asking if it had a 7th string on it because of how the binding looked in the sunlight.

  • you make this look so easy.thanks for the invite ginmillsinger.

  • me too, thanks ginmill!

  • The movie this is from is hilarious. The title is "O, Brother, Where Art Thou?" The movie is on DVD but there is an additional DVD available containing bluegrass music of the same artists from the film. It is even better than the movie itself.

  • as long as things like these continue to exist, rock and roll will never die.

by rock and roll i mean any good straight forward music

  • you could not be more wrong, this is real music with more heritage than any of us can understand, this man is a master of his craft and you should show some respect!

  • You idiot it's all based on the same musical theory. You have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. El Crapitan Crismeario. Dense!!

  • Yeah Martin I meant to say high to low!!

    Liam

  • I hope no one minds me answering.

Its open G DBGDBG low to high and the chords are G C D C G.

    And yes, Martin is great.

  • hawaiiandobroblues,

I`m sorry to correct you but the tuning is GBDGBD low to high. I`m sure that`s what you meant.

    cheers

    Martin

  • amazing martin could you tell me the tuning and chord please thank you, one of the best player by far i've heard keep it up you give all we beginners hope

  • Bravo!

  • Great work Martin.

By doing a purely solo arrangement like this you get far more out of it than Jerry Douglas had the opportunity to do.

  • thanks martin i'm learnin to play very slowley i have an old johnson res. that is in good shape and plays well . Ive had a couple of gigs with some guys who are interested in dobro and it helps to see your playing . It gives me inspiration thank you very much !!!!

  • martin, when you are picking,do you rest your fingers on the string to blunt or just to be ready for the next note

  • artfixrog,

whenever I want to stop ringing the note after I pick it, I rest a finger ot the right hand on the string in order to damp it.

  • extremely nice!

  • extremly nice. guidar god ;)!

  • Very nice as always Martin. Thanks for sharing.

  • So nice and clean, ain't nobody got nothin' on you.
