  • This track is my favorite.. I almost cried when I tried to play this while reading the scene where Klaus spent his thirteenth birthday in the uptown jail cell of the Village of Fowl Devotees.

  • @TheKat018 Ironically, that's the exact chapter I'm reading now.

  • Is there anything better in the world that this?

  • è splendida

  • "At times the world may seem like an unfriendly and sinister place, but believe me when I say there is much more good in it than bad. And what might seem like a series of unfortunate events, may infant be the first steps of a journey." - Lemony Snicket

I will forever thank Lemony Snicket for giving me a personal philosophy to live by. This is one of the best book series I have ever had the pleasure of reading, and some of the best music scores I've heard in a movie.

  • But what may seem like a series of unfortunate events, is just the beginning of a journey.

  • beautiful <3

  • I wish they made more movies like this. Granted, it wasn't the greatest movie to some.. but since I was reading the books at the time, It really made an emotional connection to me. Not only that but the soundtrack is amazing.

  • pure awsome

  • One of the most beautiful and pieces of music I have ever heard...

  • Cant stop listening to this....

  • I remember going to see with my mom in theaters... It was a lot of fun.

  • oh man i loved both book and movie

is there any chance? theres gonna be a sequal

  • such a beautiful song

  • Oh man.....That music reminds me a melody from Finding Nemo, especially in the beginning.....I believe that every composer has a music character and a music attitude, which makes him unique....Thumbs up if you agree with me...(Sorry for my English)

  • @TheMysticalElf93 yes, it reminded me of Nemo too! I was like, "I wonder if this is the same composer," and sure enough, Thomas Newman wrote both of them =D

  • Sanctuary... is a word which here means a small, safe place in a troubling world. Like an oasis in a vast desert or an island in a stormy sea...

  • @MyNameIsHaunta could really do with one of them, reminds me i never had one </3

  • this movie was a lot better than i thought

    way to go thomas newman!!!

  • this song makes me wanna be a kid again! I love it!!

  • The producers got the wrong director for ASOUE. In my honest opinion Guillermo Del Toro should of directed.

  • I love Jim Carrey, but just wish the film was as good as the books...

  • superlative

  • I cried when the part when they played this song came on

  • I loved, loved, lovedddd this series. I always felt like I was right there with them on all their adventures.

  • This is such an amazing soundtrack! i love it, seriously, it's so inspiring! Thomas newman is incredible!

  • Stupendo il film, stupenda la colonna sonora, stupendo la storia che racconta: un Capolavoro.

  • bc of this song i was able to write a love poem for someone special in my life

  • Best soundtrack ever!

  • This kinda reminds me of Valley of the Shadow, which Thomas Newman also composed for Little Women. Both very beautiful and emotional pieces of music :)

  • songs like this have a way to make all the problems dissapear

  • they should make more lemony snicket has written the books why not?!

  • that letter is so sad, i just wanna give violet a big hug when shes reading it :(

  • Stunningly beautiful song by Thomas Newman. It's songs like this that remind why I listen to film scores. :)

  • That's Wisconsin in Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events in 1989.

  • this gives me goosebumps its so beautiful! I almost cry every time i hear it

    :') xx

  • Jim Cary chouldn't of played count olaf, he's just too funny for it. Count olaf was an evil man and jim cary dosn't suit

its like putting russell brand as adolf hitler in a documentery

  • @Joojiadamumoranzi

    that would be awesome

  • @Joojiadamumoranzi ...You gotta admit that'd be hilarious.

  • @HallaHalla367 Yeah it would be ;D

  • A series of unfortunate events!

    Book 14

    Book 15

    Book 16

    Book 17

    Honestly! Look on wikipedia.

    They're coming out in 2012! :)

  • @moses4611 it doesn't say anything about new books coming out in 2012

  • @MonkeyButtMovies1 there wont be anymore books, the 13th was the last one of the series.

  • everybody the sequel is in 2012 emily will be 20 liam18 and shelby wil be 7

  • pretty good

  • this is a beautiful song. I love it. :-D

  • Helena B. Carter SHALL PLAY ESME! *raises fist in air as lightning strikes*

  • @MysteryUpgrade Actually, she did have an uncredited cameo in this as Mrs. Baudelaire. But it was only during that shot of Sunny hanging form the table by her teeth and she walked past.

  • @MysteryUpgrade Really? I always imagined that that character was more meant for Jennifer Tilly.

  • wow, i need to see this film again. i forgot how good it was.

    it needs sequelss!!

  • it didnt make too much considering it's budget so they probably wont make a sequel. at least for a while

  • seriously? i assumed it was huge. everybody i know have seen it and loved it.. ah well, theyd need new cast and that anyway.. wont be as good. just a shame..

  • hell yes helena Bonham Carter would fit Esme!!!!!! to whoever posted that.......

  • Miranda Richardson would be better, I think. :)

  • This song describes their lives rather well. It's sad, but later determined to survive, and even be hopeful like the Baudelaires.

  • "The last safe place is safe no more." - Sunny Baudelaire, The Penultimate Peril

"My stepfather said that the amount of treachery in this world is enormous, and that the best we could do was one small noble thing." -Fiona, The Grim Grotto

  • Words cant describe the feeling you get when you're listening ...

  • I remember that the first time I watched this movie in theaters, I shed a tear during this scene. I couldn't express how just the music would make me feel back then, but each time I listen to it, I feel it again. It fills me with emotions that I simply can't describe. It's... too beautiful for words. ...Surprising how the music we hear can sometimes open our eyes or heart, I thank God for those little pieces of perfection. <3

  • THIS. This is such a good way of putting it. I feel sure I could not have said it better myself. What beautiful music...<3

  • Awhs, thanks a lot for the compliment! ^_^

You know, I always am very sensitive and attentive to the music I hear, especially when it comes to soundtracks. And each melody, each... compositor makes me feel something different from the other. And one thing I can say for sure about this one is, that no other compositor so far moved me like Thomas Newman's music did. <3

  • That just about summed up how I feel. Your little.. speech made me see that.x

  • Ah, well... I'm glad you feel the same way! ^.^

  • This scene was incredible, but moving at the same time.

It was a shame they couldn't make all the movies, but I still liked the way they ended this one. It was beautiful. Personally, I think they did a good job.

    Violet, Sunny and Klaus. Legends.

  • @tomsfrizzygal

i think there will be a sequel, but its animated....i read it somewhere.. better yet just google it.. :)

  • I would totally watch that!

    Thanks.

  • it has just been rumoured and maybe... currently produced..... lets just not put our hopes onto it..... :)

  • I almost cried in the scene when Violet read the letter from her mum and dad.

  • At times the world can seem an unfriendly and sinister place. But believe us when we say there is much more good in it than bad. All you have to do is look hard enough. And what seems to be a series of unfortunate events, may in fact, be the fist steps of a journey.

    - Violet Baudelaire

  • @StillpendingROCKS100

I LOVE THOSE LINES!! almost made me cry..

  • @StillpendingROCKS100 Violet didn't actually say that. It was in the letter her parents wrote, so technically, it was a quote by them. :|

  • @keibranch Oh yeah. Good point.... :/

  • @StillpendingROCKS100 actually... she was reading the letter from their parents :|

  • @StillpendingROCKS100

    That's an awesome quote.

Too bad most people (including me) can't always see the world like that- especially while the 'unfortunate events' are occuring.

  • @3point14rat it's all about how you choose to see things, no matter where you go unfortunate events are going to happen you can't escape them but it's all how you see the world. You can choose to be happy in the midst of the circumstance and think about the postive or think about all the negative you just have to look beyond the circumstances look beyond the fog and you'll see so much more.

  • @koolchristiangirl I think that everyone knows that if you look on the bright side of things the world appears a much happier place. Unfortunately, what you want to think and what you actually think aren't always the same.

I'm a very optimistic guy. I always see things in the most positive way I can, and I always gauge peoples actions in the most forgiving light possible.

But I don't think anyone can go through life without the odd "why me" thought sneaking in when things go wrong.

  • @StillpendingROCKS100

Excuse me if you've already been told this, but it's actually Violet reading the letter that was sent by her parents, not Violet herself.

  • @Igotopinions yes.... i know. its fine. i just copied and pasted the quote

  • You summed it up perfectly.

    x

  • one of the most beautiful instrumental songs ive ever heard!!! :D <3

  • "People don't always get what they deserve in this world."

    -Esme Squalor

    "The world is quiet here."

  • maan, I would love to see Esme (and also, ALL THE REMAINING 10 BOOKS XD) in movie, they only did 3 books T_T

do you think that Helena Bonham Carter would fit Esme??

  • Yes, yes she would :)

  • Helena actually was in Unfortunate Events. She was the Baudelaire's mother as an uncredited cameo role! :3

  • for god sakes XD thats unfair, since the guys didnt show the baudelaire's parents's faces

  • @Lion187 Where can you see her?

  • "Strange as it may seem, I still hope for the best, even though the best, like an interesting piece of mail, so rarely arrives, and even when it does it can be lost so easily."

    — Lemony Snicket

  • Oh I wish I had the sheet music to this. Love it! ^-^

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE IT!! ralphismypup i almost cried too!!

  • @thevickster881 Almost? I was a mess.

  • Amazing film, amazing music, amazing composer, amazing cast...

  • I love Thomas Newman's compositions. They're so touching and beautiful, and you can listen to them all over again. It always helps me to listen to this whenever I'm sad because it always soothes my soul. I'm glad he got to make the music for this movie.

  • so this is your favorite composer mines is Hanns Zimmer the one who mand the sound track for the dark knight movie and the last samurai.

  • I work with kids and they play this movie like crazy. After like the 3rd time I was ready to rip my hair out but every time the scene where the orphans get the letter from their parents plays I just want to cry.

  • sometimes at home i tie my hair up with a ribbon too cause i feel violet is the most proudest of all her siblings i am the oldest sibling too of my brother and sister so i feel i need to be like her

  • Just lovely....

  • this part almost made me cry. its just amazing

  • does anyone know where i can find the piano sheet music for this song?

  • @TheOReport1994 When you find out can you tell me? ;]

  • i really want to get this song, can anyone tell me where the download link is or website:)

  • most of the stuff in the story was wrong.

violets hair was black in the series, klaus

is suppose to hav nerdy glasses and sunny is suppose to be baldish and sunny doesnt walk untill the Vile Village.

Mr.Poe never coughed at the movie. how dumb was that? :P o well, it was still good.

  • sorry, i'm full of hapiness and emotion in 3:25...this notes are really great!

  • absolutly brilliant and amazing, full of emotions...My hearts beat quickly in 1:31, I smile in 1:56, I wanna cry in 2:16 and I'm feel full of happiness and emotion in 4:14

  • it sucks that theyre not making anymore of these movies

  • I cried with this scene, more for the music than for the letter...this piece is like the words translated in music...

  • Same with me. I agree completely.

  • I love this scene in the movie. It's pretty good.

  • what website did u get this from?

  • This one is so emotional.

  • it's nice when ppl say "the music makes the movie"....of course..it does not....music is something we all as humans ingest through our ears...instead of our mouth...we have likes and dislikes....the ability to create timbre in which most or all of an audience can process as "part of the movie" or storyline is truly an art. try it...it's not easy....alone, the music opens the mind like a book....accompanying a movie....the music guides the mind through the scene. why am i commenting the obvious?

  • I can tell that you are very intelligent. Do you make reviews?

  • Ha ha...no..I don't make reviews...I wish I got paid to though....I love the arts....music, movies, etc. But I also enjoy reading and listening to honest opinions of people's views on the such....

  • Keep the music, remake the movies. :)

  • This has to be my favorite song off the soundtrack. I heart it.

    :)

  • did thomas newman do Finding nemo too cause the music soudns very similar

  • Yea he did!

  • No that was Harry Gregson-Williams

  • yes he also did pay it forward and the shawshank redemption. they all sound kind of similar, but extremely beautiful.

  • i think he did narnia to!

  • this is freaking beautiful...my sisters ballet class danced a dance to this song, and it was beautiful too.

  • this song is really touching. i love it

  • so beautiful... :')

  • im on the thirteeth book now.... i love the books and the movie is funny lol

i love thomas newmans music...this song makes me soo sad :(

  • I've looked for that song I heard since two years...

  • oh my goodness, me too hahah

  • OMG <3

  • No matter how many times I watch this movie.... This part still makes me cry

  • Anyone notice that there's a bit at the start of this, that is almost identical to a bit at the start of the road to perdition song? Not criticising, because they are class, just an observation.

  • I know what you mean. I can always tell if Thomas Newman did the music in a movie because it all has a similar style... BUT he is amazing and, in my opinion, his music is what makes the movies!

  • Great, really like it. My favourite from the soundtrack.

  • This has such a melancholy feel to it.....so heartbreakingly beautiful.

  • This Truly Is A Very Sad Song, But Kinda Hopefully

It's Almost Beaten The Final Fantasy VII Tune For Me :)

  • Thomas, its time for that Oscar. You deserve it after being nominated 10 times!

  • This piece of music is so moving and beautiful, and I also enjoyed the movie.

  • Beautiful work by Thomas Newman. :) Truly brilliant and moving.

  • Such a sad song. :(

  • this is like, my favorite song ever! :D It's really quite beautiful!

  • Road to perdition is sadder than this...

  • Lets not be mean....

  • At least I know there's at least one other person on youtube who doesn't like when people fight.

  • Yay! Someone agrees with me :)

  • Somebody mentioned me?

  • The world is quiet here.

  • My favorite film ever made. And one of the best pieces of music.

  • I just love it at 2:16!

  • this one is so sad :(

  • it really is a pretty song

  • when the heall are they going to make a series of unfortunate events 2

  • I think in 2010 or so. It's only a rumor though so I'm not sure.

  • During an interview for LAND OF THE LOST, Brad Silberling confirmed the possibility of a LS sequel but only in stop-motion form because the kids have grown older.
