Also- "Rock" is an umbrella term for all genres of music. It was a no-brainer that she would be a first-year-eligible inductee, for the music, and what she did in her work in terms of gender, racial, religious, sexual and social mores. She went further than anyone, and brought important issues to the forefront for us to discuss.

Regardless of whether you like Madonna or her music, there's no denying her mark on American Pop Culture. Denying it is plan foolish. When you can go to almost anyone in the world and ask them "Do you know who Madonna is?" and they know, then you know you've accomplished something. She's right up there with other American Pop Culture icons like Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and James Dean.

That is true, I had 2 classes in college that had nothing to do with music where Madonna's work was focused on for 1 or 2 classes. One was called Race, Religion and Represent, the other was an Eng.
Then there's the quality of her music which has always been substantial. Yeah, her "American Life" and "Die Another Day" singles, her 2 worst, were released back-to-back and almost ended her career, but she picked up, brought the quality back into her music, and now it's as if nothing happened.
