  • i wonder if he died

  • I was there when it happen

  • excellant pic as the 6 blows by the 3 but did anyone finish 3rd or was this a refund .... I'm waiting for the results on the inquiry...........pleeze hold all tickets... you don't want some lozer picking up a discarded winning ticket.... this is horse racing as it actually happens...great vid I hope I see the official results within 10:10

  • I dont understand how hard it is to realize that if it wasn't for horse racing the horses wouldnt even be here. No one would own them or even bred them. So by doing away with racing horses the breeds would be no longer. They are bred to race.

  • more nonrace horses go lame in thier own fields each year (ratio wise) than on the track. Uneven ground, picking a toe or just lack of exercise are reasons why. These things are looked after pretty much like kings.

  • watch the idiot on the 3 whipping his horse as if to hold on for second--IN A 2 HORSE RACE--lmao, hahahaah.

  • This race was as bad as it was because of typical single file "racing" at woodbine & mohawk, if a few had pulled out like they do at other tracks not all would have been wiped out. theres a lesson for ya fellas, Try racing next time.

  • sad huh? They always race single file there....

i love how they say "the track isnt conducive to closers". Its not the track, its you dont have a chance when you run single file till a halfway down the back stretch.....

    meadowlands > ontario racing.

  • u must know harness racing, because thats garbage in toronto, single file,no lead changes and the most hilareous thing is when somebody finally pulls out then THEY ALL PULL OUT jaming the field back---also it is a racing violation when someone pulls out and just hangs there--doesnt go forward.

  • We're animals too you know. Someone could die anytime during a hockey or football game or even just driving to work. Does that mean we should ban these things? No. Stop focusing on a rare occurrence in harness racing and look at the sport as a whole. Just think about it, If your income depends on your horses, you're going to treat them well. Why would I deliberately injure and mistreat my horse or a horse I'm taking care of when they decide if I get to eat this week? Think rationally about it.

  • i want to know why there is a coward that keeps deleting people's posts.

  • I'm the only person who can delete posts other than the author of posts.

    I've only deleted spam messages.

Maybe you aren't configured to see posts that have less than 5 thumbs down or more.

  • HAHA

Ohh sweatheart, clearlyyy i am missing out not being able to do the things you can do. Oh what i would give to live your life. Dont flatter yourself idiot.

This is my last post because replying to an idiot is very exhausting, and honestly i have better ish to do, so if you actually reply to this, quite frankly you need a life!

    ps. Im a girl, doochbag

  • wolfy u need to get a damn life LOSER hhahahahaha oh crist u have the time to actually "research" this and post DAY and NIGHT. I bet ALL racehorses have a better life and are loved more than you do now. Hence that is why you are negative. Dude go get laid! quick now!

  • Actually race horse get GREAT Retirements! They are often adopted as ridding or companion horses and others are bred an live on sophisticated farms where they eat better than most people and are loved and well treated! You clearly are not involved in the horse industry because if you were then you would see this first hand. Please inform yourself before you make comments.

  • If you would inform yourself than you would not make these type of comments since you would see that you are mistaken. This was an unfortunate and uncommon accident. you should know that none of these horse were seriously injured and are all expected to make full and fast recoveries. As for the drives who are still recovering, I wish them speedy recoveries. My thoughts and prayers are with you!

  • it must suck too that we gamble on humans in sports such as boxing and auto racing....

    people get hurt there too.

  • i don't know where you are getting your information but the horse racing industry isn't built on exploitation or cruelty towards the animal. you really need to readjust your thought process and not believe everything you read on the internet. horses are definately not exploited or treated unfairly, so maybe you should actually go out and retrieve your own information, not believe what other people are feeding into your brain.

  • and i don't know what type of enlightened society you are trying to build because it seems as though you are trying to spread negative propaganda about something you clearly know nothing about. so go enlighten yourself before condemning the lives of thousands of people.

  • And no, they do not overrun the horses fools. They are given breaks and are only put to run if they are fit to. Horses cost a fortune. So why on earth would the owners want to hurt them? IDIOTS.

  • You people are idiots! Race horses cannot live a better life! Seriously, they are constantly pampered. They are treated even better than humans are. So get your information right! I work at the racetrack, and have personally witnessed the paddicks which they live in, and the constant care and love they are given. Accidents like the one at Woodbine are very RARE.

  • i completely agree! my horses are pampered beyond belief.

  • so... 58/1348 were racehorses..??? and you're blaming the racing industry?? The numbers don't seem to add up to me...

  • Approximately 18,000 foals are born into the closely-related British and Irish racing industries each year, yet only around 40% go on to become racers. Those horses who do not make the grade may be slaughtered for meat or repeatedly change hands in a downward spiral of neglect. Of those horses who do go on to race, around 400 are raced to death every year.

  • WOW!!! I don't even know where to start!

I am a standardbred owner, breeder and trainer and have an absolute LOVE for these animals. I think that all you ignorant ppl commenting on here about how neglected and abused these animals are have absolutely NO idea what goes into there daily care! These horses are pampered beyond belief ... and love very second of racing! So if you have never lived the life then PLEASE don't talk negatively about the sport!!!

  • You don't have to spend even a second in the 'business' to realize that if an animals life is put in danger to the point where it could die at any moment during a race that it is wrong and it is not fair to the animal's well being

Seriously, think about what you are saying. 1 minute the animal is enjoying it's right to breath air, eat food and be happy and the next minute it dies during a race. YOU took this away from him for entertainment! How again is this a good thing for the horse?

  • You really have no idea what you are talking about.... but we aren't going to change you opinions so it is really not worth an ounce of my time!

I wish all the drivers the best of luck during there recovery!!!

  • Not surprisingly, noone here can justify risking a horses life for the sake of entertainment

We all know why the owners do it...MONEY

The only mammal in this situation losing out is the one without the choice

Go watch some videos where horses are trampled to death during races....What part of the 'business' don't I get to help me understand why those horses had to die?

    Please enlighten me

  • Who are you to talk Wolfy when all you can do is try and inflict more pain onto the people that are involved in this accident. PETA should be locking assholes like you up and then euthanisizing you because theres no where and no one that should have to put up with your ignorant ass....hopefully not pain free!

  • Alright Wolfy so say we didnt race horeses what the fuck would we have them for? not saying that there only job in life is to race but what about omish they drive horses for a vehicle and thats wrong... what do u think we drove before cars? fuck man you might aswell go chain your self to a barn door and not let anyone in because there gunna hurt the animal. and as for the comment you made about my story being pathetic, my stories life my dad didnt complain like some bitch unlike you!

  • As for the drivers, these guys grow up loving horses and have always been around them. Nothing makes them happier to be on the track racing the horses they love. So to say that the drivers got what they deserved? You need to get your shit straight dude. Both are right where they want to be. Leave something you know nothing of alone. Dont be on here talking shit about people who are injured seriously right now by a freak accident for doing what they love. FUCKIN TOOL!!!

  • hughsey, no one is saying they deserved it you tool.

People have been saying this should be expected. This happened many times before, and will happen many times again. If it was such a shock to them, they would never get back in the bike.

  • @brothaman007 Read the comments douche. People are saying they got what they deserved- word for word. Now I didnt say it was you so dont get your panties in a bunch there doll face!! Go back and read the comments dude!!!

  • @Hughesy6060

lol @ you replying almost a year later...... who would be the douche?

  • Get better Shep!!

To all the retards on here that know nothing about the sport and are preaching PETA nonsense and that these drivers got what they deserved.......Know this. A horse couldnt be any happier running around the track. Owners of most harness racing horses treat their horses like GOLD. My uncle Gary treats his horses like one of his children. Spending all the time in the world with them. These horses live for the track and have great lives.

  • Why not shut the fuck up you ignorant prick, people drive cars they die, people drive atvs they die. Fuck this is a sport get that thru ur fucking head. Its people like you that need to wake up. Heres a thought, why not go make love to ur fucking tree at home while u wear ur peta shirt ur ignorant fuck

  • wolfy- seriously, you need to learn more about the sport you are bashing. they are not jockeys, they are harness drivers and if you are saying that people need to be killed then you truly must be a cold person. horses love racing, plain and simple. so if you have nothing good to say than don't say anything at all. i had a retired race horse, each and every day i would lead him out to the field and he would turn to go towards the track because he wanted to be out there, not standing in the field

  • you call them statistics. I call them FACTS.

Yea kill them. PETA loves animals but instead of taking care of them themselves lets just put them down. Good idea. Why pay money to save them and give them a good life ourselves when its 10 maybe 20 bucks for euthanasia. Maybe we should do this with children who cant get adopted after a certain time too right. You would probably be all for that because it dont sound like you are here for the human race.

  • You can't find logic in that because (surprise!) you're fucking retarded.

  • Unless you're a multimillionaire, I highlydoubt that, champ.

You know, on second though, you may be right.

Putting in my worthless two cents every third comment sounds like quite a life.

  • Comment removed

  • wow, i know robert sheppard who was involved in that accident and i care about him. Why not say to save all of them. If that was your dad or brother in that sulky would you still be saying that???

  • People please don't get into an argument with these animal rights hypocrites. They talk about saving animals and setting them free and blah blah blah. But if you do some research on groups like PETA for instance they kill more animals then anyone. From 1998 to 2007 PETA received 22,896 dogs, cats and other companion animals. They KILLED 19,215 of them that is 83.6% of the animals taken in that time frame they killed. Yet we in the horse racing business are the cruel ones. Give me a break!

  • Wow, its amazing that the horses were not hurt. Hope all the drivers make out alright.

  • To wolfy2424 You are the dumbest most ignorante fuck i know what do u do for a livin that gives you the write to cristize another mans job my father was a horse trainer for 36 years till he was killed due to a horese accident and horse racing put a roof over my head and food on the table you are so heartless to not feel sorry for some1 injured that badly or injured at all but i hope what ever you do for a livin can justify your comments because in my books you would have ta be a super hero!

  • You can be heartless and a dumb "ignorante" fuck if you are a superhero??

AWESOME I WANT TO BE ONE

  • like i previously said, i had a retired racehorse. each and every day i would lead him out to the field and each day he would turn and start walking towards the track. obviously he made the choice where he wanted to be, so until you have worked with one of these animals, don't judge those associated.

  • Personally, I hate people who don't care about the human race. Animals of the same breed stick together, so I guess you are not as noble as the animals you try and "protect". My dad is the main driver trampled in this video, and to think that some sick person could wish that on him, and our family is disgusting! I could call names and say horrible things about these "people", but I've been taught better. Happy to report my dad is recovering, and I hope you can learn to be a decent human being.

  • i understand what your saying

but for that to ligit be your dad

like that chances of what u just said to be true are so slim

  • I don't feel the need to prove myself to you, mario (my dad), is a tough old guy, and less effected by this than me. He doesn't care what anyone thinks of the sport he loves, and he knows I'm in his corner! ;)

  • Thank you for your words of wisdom. Stay classy Bella!

  • Your dad is the best. Hope he gets better and comes back soon.

  • mario is a good guy. i wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.

  • Thats obviously not your dad.

You're from the US, this is in Ontario. If you dont know where ontario is...its in Canada. DURRRRR

  • my parents are divorced, I'm his oldest daughter. but its cool if don't believe me. :) oh, and I do realize that these kinds of things happen in this sport, but it still sucks when it happens.

  • Johnly- No need to give Bella a geography lesson. She knows where Canada is. But here's some math for you: Mario spent most of the 80's racing in the US, Bella's profile says she's 22. hmmmm

  • mario is a good guy. i wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.

  • Comment removed

  • Give it a break.

While i appreciate that your dad is hurt, and i feel sorry that he will have to recover from this without persuing the sport that he loves, injuries are part of ALL sports. This is just another one.

If you are so concerned about this happening to your dad, then talk to him about quitting, if not... this is going to happen, and you ahve to accept it.

speedy recovery and hope to see him out there.

  • Comment removed

  • Well, the kindergarteners need glue.

  • i just wish everyone involved a full recovery

  • to those people bashing harness racing itself horses actually love racing. they are bred for it, nothing makes them happier than being on the track so don't bash something you know nothing about. for anyone that cares, all of the horses are perfectly fine, just scraped and cut but other than that they will make full recoveries. the one that caused it caught a shoe and went down.

there are 3 individuals seriously hurt, i personally know one of them, he is in the icu right now awaiting surgery.

  • Comment removed

  • to all the condescending jerks, no one is asking for your pity...just watch the vid and keep idiotic comments to yourself

  • nice gotta go there soon last year on my birthday i wont 85 bucks on shows and places :D

  • i work with the horses and this is a freak accident, no different then a hockey player falling akwardly into the boards, in harness racing accidents are quite rear atleast of this caliber, i wish a speedy recovery to all involved im no fan of the rodeo which you mentioned in your comment, but i know there is no comparison to harness racing and putting a rope around a calfs neck and pulling. keep your thoughts to your self if you dont know what your talking about.

  • Fucking Right mate!

  • keep your garbage comments off youtube seeing as you obviously have no idea what your talking about... douche bag

  • i wonder how the first horse fell...it looked almost like his leg collapsed from under him... i hope every one gets better quickly. Just remember that these guys have family to. somehow i see this linked with the no fighting argument

in hockey... they get hurt in a fight and and people find it exciting

  • the horse caught a shoe in front with his hind leg which caused him to stumble and fall, just an unfortunate misstep. luckily every horse made it out with just cuts and scrapes.

  • No. 1 Umm you do not how all horse are treated.

No 2. HA yeah they'll ban this. Do you know what kind of money the governments make off of horseracing. Banned! Yeah ooookkkkkk. Learn the facts abou the sport first

  • shut up tree hugger PETA type. Have some tofu..fu

  • Humans are the dominant species. Deal with it. If we were all bleeding heart pussies like you we'd get taken over by lions.

  • Get your bitch self off the internet.

    You're probably a furry.

  • Because posting on YouTube is a fulltime job, right queerbag?

Seriously, I wouldn't doubt you spend a good amount of your day raping farm animals.

  • ok .... on this day..... 9680 horses raced accross north america. During this week, there was over 50k horses that raced and made it back fine... are you actually going to suggest that from over the 2 million horses (indivdually) and the over 16 milllion races they run, that this isnt going to happen? I can show you this happening in marathons, cycling and track and field, not to mention hockey and football, should we ban those sports too?

  • Except a car is not a living thing...tard

  • no one said it is a living thing you idiot. Im referring to the guy driving the horse, not the horse.

Mario's daughter is herec chewing people out for their comments. So when you learn to read..... get back to me.

  • how about you blow a conch

  • I know leaving this comment gave you a sense of superiority and a feeling that your better than people the watch horses being "treated as slaves." But really... it's pretty disrespectful. Some of these guys are in the hospital lucky to be alive. Here's hoping that everyone gets a full recovery.

  • I hate to say it but it comes with the territory.I've seen people go down before and some of these drivers. But most of them get back up and get back on the bike.I hope all drivers get better and the horses get over their scrapes and bruises.

  • This isn't entertainment. These guys have families that are very upset. Every time they see an accident like this they are reminded just how dangerous it is everytime they race. Mario's Daughter in Calif was very upset that some find it 'exciting' to see her dad trappled by several horses.

  • You need to adjust your thought process buddy. The harness racing industry isn't perfect but making claims about things you have no idea about is just annoying. Probably your goal though so congratulations. I was going to argue for horse racing with you in a civilized manner but actually wishing for human injury gives me a good indication of your character and makes me think explaining anything to you would just be a waste.

  • Update!

Roger Mayotte is now in recovery of a dislokaded shoulder, broken arm and pelvis

Robert sherperd had to have surgery because of 2 open fractures.

Mario Baillargeon has a broken right tibia.

  • I do not like when these accidents are posted as entertainment.. I have friends who drive and i gotta tell you.. its not funny when these guys break bones or in Hal Belote's case kill

  • I was there live too but work with the horses and know those drivers. its not too exciting!!

  • poor horses/jockeys...let's hope they are okay!! poor donks

  • **UPDATE**

three drivers were sent to hospital

Drivers Roger Mayotte and Robert Shepherd were taken to nearby hospital. Early reports indicate Mayotte suffered a broken shoulder, while Shepherd is believed to have a broken leg.

Mario Baillargeon was taken to a Milton hospital with an ankle injury. Chris Christoforou was shaken up in the accident and booked off the remainder of his drives. all of the horses came out of the accident with no serious injuries.
