to me it seems like the best orchestration of this song (or is it only me?) - somehow i feel like a little touch of jazz in the prelude - what a fusion! I somehow feel like Rabindranath was the pioneer(and the best till date) in making the fusion of Indian and Western melodies. On the top of it the greatest maestros did more blending. really superb! on the top of it again Kanan Devi sang it with full of expression , unlike many tagore-singers later , who had mechanical representation.
It makes an extremely interesting study how differently two of the greatest Maestros Rai chand Boral and Pankaj Mullik orchestrated the same tune besides the fact that its composed by the greatest of them all: Rabindranath Thakur. And added is the fact that the voices to interpret Tagore's creation are also no less than the rarest o the rare,Kanan Devi and Pankaj Da himself. God, are blessed!
Kanan Devi did not learn any song from Rabindranath Tagore. However, they met on more than one occasion and Rabindranath blessed the newly maried couple (Kanan Devi's first marriage to Ashok Maitra).
Thanks. Pankaj Kumar Mallick's PRAN CHAHE NAINA NA CHAHE was non film. This one by Kanan Devi is from film -PARAJAY. All photos used in the clip from the film.
I have the Hindi version by Pankaj Mullick...did not know about this one. Quite a treat!! Thanks for sharing so generously. I love your channel-- full of treasures!

This song is very special in many ways:
It makes an extremely interesting study how differently two of the greatest Maestros Rai chand Boral and Pankaj Mullik orchestrated the same tune besides the fact that its composed by the greatest of them all: Rabindranath Thakur. And added is the fact that the voices to interpret Tagore's creation are also no less than the rarest o the rare,Kanan Devi and Pankaj Da himself. God, are blessed!
