I hope that statement of Nick Jonas was tongue in cheek, but I'm guessing it isn't by the serious tone of your first statement. Did you yourself watch the musical? He was not able to by far, keep up with the sheer power and volume of the other properly trained musicians. Furthermore, he seemed very out-of-place, as if he was expecting to be amplified and auto-tuned. He should just stick to his pretty-boy Disney outfit where his pathetic teeny voice belongs.

  • @getthefonyourdot

He really isn't in Disney as much as he used to be. I do think he has a great voice though. Now, I'm a fan of the singer I'm about to menchen, but I don't worship him like most girls my age do. But I just have to say I'm glad Justin Bebier isn't in this, why? His voice is way too high, I can't see him as any of the characters in this play and the fact that he doesn't belong in Les Miserables. I hope he never does this play, his voice won't fit in here.

  • CHILLS!

  • how did colm wilkinson NOT win the tony again?

  • I like Frances as Eponine. well I always prefer sort of pros and cons voices rather than everyone's favourite.

  • Ooh! I wish I could have seen this on TV, but alas! I was a year old when Les Mis was at the Tony Awards.

    Also...Terrence Mann <333

  • I agree.... read the book. All 1600 pages of it before you can even speak of the story line

  • and they're gonna do THIS...with Taylor Swift and Sacha Baron Cohen and Russell Crowe? Dear Christ, I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

  • @InfinityEnterprises

They might be good. Nick Jonas was in the 25th aniversery in London and he supprised me to the point where I didn't think it was really him! Check out Empty chairs and Empty Tables with him singing. He is one of the few people in the 25th aniversery edition who kept the strong voice and emotion in.

  • @RoseDust101 Nick Jonas was not good. Really, really not. Check out Michael Ball's Empty Chairs and you'll see the difference. He does not have a strong voice and I didn't see any emotion in him, he was wooden as all get out in the A Little Fall Of Rain scene.

  • @IronMaiden2924

I've watched the tenth anniversary and not one cast I've heard was as amazing as those in that cast. Nick Jonas wasn't as strong voiced but I did see a lot of emotion and it shocked me when I heard his deep voice. I didn't reconize his voice at all and I had a hard time believing it was him. But what you think of his performance is your choice, not mine. So I'm not going to try to make you like him. I'm glad you gave him a chance though.

  • @InfinityEnterprises luckily they didn't cast Taylor "No Talent" Swift

  • @InfinityEnterprises I don't know if you already know but it's not Taylor Swift anymore, it's Samantha Barks from the 25th Anniversary Concert. Still, not a great cast. I don't understand why they've gone for big names, people are still going to go and see it because it's Les Mis, they don't need to draw people in with movie stars.

I was so excited for the film but I'm so disappointed by the cast, I'm only happy about Helena Bonham Carter for Madame Thenardier.

  • eponine sounds like a mouse >.>

  • Les mid is the best show ever

  • Wow! Eponine is awful! :(

  • @9claudiajenssen She has quite a whiney voice, but I imagine that's what eponine would be like in real life, just complaining about everything

  • @wbmtaverage Read the book... she's not like that.

  • @Khetodo She's pretty psychotic, she tries to kill Marius and herself.

  • wut yr was this???

  • I saw this original cast live. You cannot go by a rushed Tony Award performance.

This was the superior cast. If you did not see Wilkinson, you did not see the show!

  • Frances is so gooood. Defo my favourite eponine. Has anyone noticed that Javert always gets the best cheer? Ive got to admit he is awesomeness

  • @BagOfSticksFork Lea Salonga is my favorite Eponine, personally. And yes, I agree Javert is awesome! And Terrance Mann was nominated for best Leading Actor in a Musical. I think the audience tends to cheer for the nominees.

  • should i c this or not cuz i really wanna but im unsurecuz its so long but looks soooo goood pleaz help

  • @iloverent101 It is one of the best shoes I have ever seen. It has a great story and amazing music. The first act can get long for some but it is well worth it. I think you should.

  • colm wilkinson!

  • :)Eponine LOL!!!!!!!

  • please!! who is the girl in min 2:12??

  • @Gerardo6993 Are you talking about the girl playing Eponine? If so, it's Frances Ruffelle who originated Eponine in both London and Broadway.

  • @dannyboy10721 TNKS!

  • Comment removed

  • Sorry but the broadway at the end of the day dosnt sound right. In london its colda and olda. Also it feels weird cos america wasnt like that then while london was so you can put in the accent. I dont think the broadway should do accent though. Its good enough though.

  • To settle this down, they're both great... Character-wise: Frances; Vocal Performance-wise: Lea

  • this is such an emotional song

  • young colm!!!!! :D <3

  • Gooosebumpps..... sooo amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The american ensemble where not half as good as the cockney accents of london. Its colda not colder.Soz original cast its thumbs down. Go 2010 tour

  • I love Gavroche (Braden Danner) at the end with the arm-thrusts matched perfectly with the music. Have NEVER seen it done like that since.

I have the Original Broadway cast soundboard recording on CD (recorded LIVE). It is better than the cast reocrding!

  • What year is this?

  • Love this epic music. The Mme. Thenardier in this terrifies me, wouldn't surprise me if she turned and started eating brains.

And am I the only one who wishes Alan Rickman would play Javert in a musical production of Les Mis?

  • @BuffyRowan No, you aren't. Alan Rickman would be amazing as either Javert or Jean Valjean.

  • Poor Judy, having to do a duet with Mr. Midget David Bryant.

  • @pianoplayer0016 they made a movie of it??

  • I've never been a huge fan of the show, but there is no way to remain uninspired when they wave that damn flag. So beautiful.

  • @ 1:45 the girl looks like Helena Boham Carter

  • @iloverent101 I thought that when i watched this and was thinking maybe she's it for the film they're making

  • I love Eponine's voice in this :D It's so her! And Judy Kuhn FTW!

  • Did anyone even hear Cosette? XD I certainly didn't. The rest of the cast was increadible though. :D

  • @JLuvsWicked93 You can hear Cosette much better on the Original Broadway Cast Recording.

  • Agree to disagree.

There is something about the first time we hear a certain version of this show. No matter which one it is. It will always be the best- all the rest become the devil.

  • Ouch! This performance really didn't do "One Day More" or "Les Mis" justice. What happened?

  • Les Mis still is my all time favorite musical. I was fortunate to see it twice on Broadway - once while we sat in the front row, center section. 'One Day More' remains my favorite scene. It was awesome! Thank you for posting this.

  • Good God this was a bad performance! I love Les Miserables, but seriously what the hell?! Marius was horrendous, Eponine was really off pitch, and Colm wasn't so hot either. This does NOT serve this musical justice!

  • ugh. so good. i just get high on broadway sometimes...

  • @36clarke me2

  • A nice compilation of various scenes from Les Miserables' Broadway performances...

  • Whoa, I LOVE Eponine!

  • fucking hell marius is terrible lol

  • does anyone have a clip of frances winning the tony?

  • i hate this Epi.

  • Amazing.

  • Still THE best musical. Ever.

  • WOAH! skinny Mme. Thenardier! never seen theat before!!!

  • My all time favorite musical. I was privileged to see it twice on Broadway. The second time we were there we sat in the front row, and my daughter had the center seat. I would see it again if it reappears.

  • wow marius is pretty cute

  • what year was this?? i've heard much better versons but this is still really good this just shows that becuase the music is so amazing you can't screw it up

  • @cbworld2008 1987.

  • what year was this??

  • ummm...whats up with marius?

  • I feel like I'm the only person who likes Ruffelle better then Lea...Lea's voice is princess-y, but Eponine is supposed to be gruff but pretty on the inside.

  • @awholelotofhooblah Lea has an amazing voice, but I can't listen to her without thinking of Miss Saigon. She epitomized the role of Kim, just as Frances will forever be Eponine.

  • i dont think there's a day when i can listen to this and NOT cry

  • this song gives me chilz everytime

  • @jaszon28 No, that's Frances Ruffelle. Personally, I think Lea Salonga is much better.

  • enjolras, chills every time!

  • this gets me everytime

  • @Krendog..and @ jaszon28

beg to differ, lea salong took liberties by making her eponine girly with a beautiful voice. if you read the book she is supposed to have boyish traits in her figure and voice. they are not worse, they are different. Ruffelle is just truer to the book, which is probably why they chose her. personally she is my favorite. there is something incredibly beautiful in the grunginess of her voice. amazing.

  • @constablelocke - I can't stand Frances Ruffelle's nasal, squeaky, eight-year-old voice, plus all that swooping, as if she's Taylor Swift doing a rock and roll tour to sell records. Be nice if she could hit a pitch dead on. She's ten times more girly (little-girly) than Lea, whose "On My Own," which I got to see live, was the first time I felt the song was not only palatable, but exceptionally moving, rather than lame and melodramatic.

  • @constablelocke I used to hate frances but now i do like her a lot. She's very well.....vunreble in an aspect. I do prefer Lea but Frances is prob my 3rd favourite eponine. Lea first then Nancy and then her. I wish people wouldnt bash her so. I feel ashamed of hating her.

  • 4:24 The film just couldn't handle the awesome.

  • @tuber469 That made me lol.

  • @tuber469 so treue

  • @tuber469 whats your thoughts of the 2012 film with Woverine as Jaun Val Jaun

  • @kafthinos80 Hugh Jackman was fantastic in Boy from Oz and in his show that's currently playing on Broadway right now. and it's Jean Valjean, use spellcheck. jeez

  • @jaszon28 No, it is Frances Ruffelle. Kind of insulting to Lea Salong, who does not take so many ungodly terrible liberties with the music..

  • Mme. Thenardier is scary as hell.

  • Whohoo!! Finally actual FOOTAGE of Frances Ruffelle as Eponine x

  • Wow, she sounds a lot like Bernadette Peters even though I know it's not her lol.

  • @DancingElegua She does sound a bit like her. Never noticed it before.

  • aww i was in this over the summer. SOO money memories <3

  • This Marius........ what the hell..........

  • This is my all-time favorite show! I can sit and listen to the music forever. :)

  • i can'tunderstand this show... this is probably the show which has a lot of followings and haters at the same time... i mean this is classic all in all but the plot and the lighting and the characterization is so dark!

  • @scorpioninpink But the plot and darkness of the show, it what makes it Les Miz...

  • At 2:58 the guy behind Javert is totally high like he's chancing fairies.

  • the best musical ever

  • I really dont care for the people playing eponine, and marius. everyone else is amazing:)

  • @MAGICLOVER8 agreed, i really don't like the marius, he's no michael ball :)

  • Chills!!! Everytime...

  • Has anyone seen the 25th anniversary show, and how does it compare with the original?

  • @MsBloodJunkie: Yes, that's Wilkinson. He and Frances Ruffelle came to New York from the original London cast.

  • is Colm Wilkinson Valjean in this?

  • @MsBloodJunkie: Yes, that's Wilkinson. He and Frances Ruffelle came to New York from the original London cast.

  • @iloveleamichele That wasn't a girl. That was Gavroche.

  • ONE DAY MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The london cast was soooooo much better... except for terrence he is in my opinion the perfect Javert

  • omfg. Ep. SHUT UP!! you suck

  • As much as i love Eponine.. She needs to let go of Marius in the begining. :P

Epic video! Thank you so much for uploading!!

  • this is my absolute favorite song from Les Miz. the choral is just amazing. no showy dancing and all, but them standing there, singing.

  • This show seriously needs to come to Australia.

  • All I can say is: Les Miserables... <3 <3 <3

  • omg i loooove terrence mann in this :)

Also, anyone else think that marius looks like a whingey little drip compared to enjolras holding that rifle up with his hair and his swashbuckleyness?

  • Honestly, I think this is the best musical on earth.

  • I have yet to see this play live, this was the first song I ever heard from it and the first 10 seconds just blew me away. Bonechilling. omfg. I'm in love with this play.

  • @Jordan8409 i'm in the same boat as you. I have yet to see the musical, but we sang a medley of it for choir and just listening to it i was immediately hooked. The music is beautiful (and a majority of it is in F major, my favourite key). I bought the book to read and i belt the music in the car as i drive. The strange looks are worth it. :D

  • @Zukoluver6 Haha oh definitely yes. I hope you get to see it soon, as well as myself =) My voice teacher practices many of these songs with me, especially Cosette's songs. It's a big dream, but I wish to play her someday. Haha! But I agree, belting it in the car, it's definitely worth the starring.

  • @Jordan8409 which one of cossettes songs? I only know of castle on a cloud, but are there any more? If i had to be anyone it would be eponine (i think that's her name) just for On My Own. :D

  • The best play ever. I never liked musicals really till I saw this one-- though as a child, I recall liking Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar's music since I was too young to ever see those plays.. but it's interesting that Colm Wilkinson starred in all three plays. He is THE Jean ValJean --nobody could ever have improved on his definition of that role! I actually bought the whole CD from the 10th Anniversary performance that was on television.

  • I was in Les Miz and the march is by far the hardest choreography ever but it is amazing

  • stunning job!

  • I agree with the anti-frances posts unfortunately as I have heard better from Lea salonga and not too keen on the marius either... my no#1 marius would be Michael Ball in the original London production as well... :)

  • Frances's voice provides such a raw stark contrast to Cosette's very operatic soprano and that is why she's SO brilliant as Eponine.

On another note...holy skinny Mme. Thenardier! She still looks awesome and the whole cast was amazing. I wish I'd seen Les Mis when it was still on Broadway...*sigh*

  • @slowtherain1 I totally agree! :D

  • @slowtherain1 it came back!

  • @slowtherain1 It's better on West End, anyway.

  • T. Mann was Beast, Javert, and the Rum Tum Tugger on Broadway.

In film, I've only ever seen him in A CHORUS LINE (he was great).

    Tim Curry is Frankenfurter forever!!!

  • Unfortunately, I have to agree with the anti-Frances posts. Something about her tone - very nasal - and the downslide on the held notes at the end. Ugh

  • personally, i LOVE frances Eponine.

  • umm so enjrolas was definitely the best, followed by valjean and the thenardiers. but cosette and marius were okay. ive definitely heard better eponines, not to be too harsh. and i just love javert so much sooo yeah!

  • I respect your opinion and the fact that you have one. But Frances did win a Tony for Les Mis she also got a similar award for her London performance!

  • @ButterS38g not to mention she was chosen to represent the UK in the 1996 Eurovision contest

  • Why the Frances hate? She's unique...but great.

  • Dear Lord, Frances is just awful; she seriously makes me hate Eponine. Other than her, this rocks my socks....

  • This is like getting af glimpse of God, best musical ever (and both Frances and Lea are good as Eponine)

  • fucking amazing

  • is this the one with adam jacobs? (from the broadway revival?)

  • i think this is the original cast

  • I get chills everytime I listen to this. Gahhhh.

  • Valjean is aaaawesome. I love his entire self. Eponine... i cant stand her. her voice is soooo whiny (yeah i know i probably spelled that wrong who cares?) and thats just my opinion so dont hatemail me.

  • chills man

  • ok terrence mann is good, but Philip Quast is the best Javert EVER, when i hear his rendition of "Stars" and "Javert's Suicide" I get chills.

Also Lea Salonga is waaay better than this girl...Just my opinion

  • They did NOT choose Lea Salonga because she had a better voice... Frances Ruffelle was not available (the idea was to get the original cast whenever possible). And yes, while I think that Lea Salonga may have a better pure singing voice, NO ONE puts as much emotion into the role as Frances Ruffelle... you can hear it on the cast recording. She has a certain waif-like quality in her voice that I think is perfect for the role.

  • Frances was amazing. Totally made Eponine unique and spunky. Her voice still is unlike any other Eponine :)

  • I know that the first character singing was Valjean, and I recognized Javert, Cosette and Eponine, but who were the others?

  • Marius

    Enjolras

    the Thenardiers (pardon my spelling)

  • Terry Manning wasnt OBC though

  • how on earth did Colm Wilkinson NOT win the tony?

  • @asburystan Robert Lindsay won for ME AND MY GIRL, a much "Showier" role with lots of comedic elements. Also, Terrence mann from LES MIZ was nominiated as Best Actor in a Musical when he should have been in the featured role category. The two actors from Les Miz nominated in the same category probably cancelled each other out. Wilkinson is still famous for the role; Robert Lindsay? Not so much.

  • I cant STAND the Eponine! uh! Her voice is terrible.

  • I totally agree. Lea Salonga is a million times better. That's why they chose her to perform at the 10th Anniversery Concert as part of The Dream Cast.

  • @gogetyourverb actually they chose lea because frances was busy

lea has a perfect voice but eponine does not represent perfection and purity

at first i didnt like france's voice but once i heard her version of on my own all the way thru i loved it she captured the pain and lonelyness of eponine <3 frances

  • Loooooove this. Thank you for uploading! Eponine is kind of creepy at the beginning, lol.

  • That marching is probably the most ingenious choreography ever.

  • Greatest part ever! So powerful!

  • @dramamole I totally agree with you. Not many people comment on it but it's amazing I agree.

  • @dramamole I agree.

  • IS THAT TERRY MANNING!

  • Terrance Mann?

  • @jeeeem YES IT IS

  • what year is this?

  • 1987

  • LES MIS is FUCKING AMAZING!!!!
