  • Jesus Harold Christ on a Popsicle Stick this guy is Farking GOOD !!!!

  • @ashlayblues who do you mean by the "original Roy Rogers"?

Isn't this the one and only then?

  • @UnknownBetrayal There's this singing cowboy if I'm not mistaken. This guy was named after that character by his parents :)

  • Fail. Skip James would own you o_O

    If it ain't broke...

  • @men0vi

pretty sure covering a song doesn't mean you are trying to fix it...

Skip James' original is better certainly but this is a respectable cover for sure.

  • nooooo 1 rtesofonica....

  • Actually the song has had both titles. You will notice that Roy himself calls it "I'd Rather Be the Devil Than to be My Woman's Man" at the start of this video. The late great John Martyn id a version of this tune many years ago [I think it was on hi 'Solid Air' album - but that may be wrong] - He also called it by that name. And, I think it's more accurate, because it's the tag line of each verse.

  • Check out I'd Rather Be The Devil by John Martyn and his Echoplex. Very different.

  • This is one of my all time favorite blues tunes. Check out my cover version in my videos!

  • u don't happen to know about Roy Rogers tunings? or his idea of tunings. open+ capo?

  • This is a Skip James song; I believe Skip used EBEGBE, low to high for this tune. That's Em, I think...you could also tune down to DADFAD - same fingering, less tension. Hope this helps.

  • I just checked - Roy tuned down to D.

  • Great!

  • Quite apart from the great guitar playing this guy can really sing.

  • Solid brass? Wow!

  • huge inspiration !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great version of Skip`s song, amazing playing

  • 6 stars

  • agreed

  • One of my favourite Rogers tunes for sure! This one is actually called Devil Got My Woman, not Rather Be the Devil, but thats besides the point. Great song.

  • On second thought, its wierd how he said it was called "Id Rather Be The Devil Than Be My Womans Man", yet on the album its called "Devil Got My Woman"...

  • And it's actually a Skip James tune.

  • Thank you for the correction...

  • Just jealous i cant play like this! maybe one day.

  • Wonderful!

    Love the vintage resonator sound!!

  • breathtaking! roy's guitar talents are limitless.

  • i think Skip is glad to hear this... :)

  • Roy Rogers guitar Master

  • Damm right.

  • Love to see him on the same stage with Derek Trucks. That would be awsome.
