Powerful stuff... and a rather remarkable tribute to Davis that the posthumous standing ovation that he got was so lengthy that it had to be fast-forwarded through.
Lewis' comments after were both sincere, and unashamedly utilitarian.
I MET SAMMY ONCE IN THE MID 70'S IN FLA. I AM ONE WHO NEVER GETS STAR STRUCK BUT HIS PRESENCE IN THE ROOM WAS OVERWHELMING! I HAVE NEVER HAD AN EXPERIENCE LIKE THAT BEFORE & SERIOUSLY DOUBT EVER AGAIN! HE WAS JUST VISITING BUT HIS IMPACT O JUST BEING THERE WAS INDESCRIBABLE!!! THIS WAS A DEFINING MOMENT THAT MADE ME SAY " iIAM GLAD I WAS ALIVE DURING THESE TIMES TO EXPERIENCE THIS MOMENT.
The world is missing a lot of good men. MDA will be missing one in 4 days. and for no reason.. God love Jerry and all the great men in this world who cared for other then themself, don't have that any more today.
The MDA is going to miss having Jerry Lewis around. They should have let Jerry say goodbye. He was very well connected and could get anyone on the show, including people Like Sammy, Frank and thousands of others.
Here, Sammy did some pretty dramatic singing, in an arena, not designed for it. Sammy really knew how to let it all hang out. The Rat Pack was great and nobody followed in their footsteps. Now Vegas is empty!
@PREZ150 Some entertainers are unique.I can say that for Sammy Davis, for Jerry Jewis (I love him dearly), I can say that for Michael Jackson too as I am his fan( and he always admired Sammy D.)
I am so fortunate to have grown up with these men on television, good clean fun, these men gave so much of themselves for the thousands of children that were less fortunate. I cried when Sammy Davis passed on and will again when Jerry Lewis passes, these are men to be looked up to as Hero's.
im soo glad they posted this back on. u cant watch this without gettin teary! thank u very much Mr. Davis for all the joy u brought to this world with your God given gift!!
Man I Loved this Guy such a Class Act! miss u lots Sammy!

RIP S.D., Jr.
Everything said about him was on the money.
Now, with genuine admiration: This presentation was ShowBiz Brilliance!
A deceased guy gets a standing ovation that had to be edited for this posting from the hottest-ticket studio audience of the time!
And JL's coda to it sounded extemporaneous, sincere, and was I'm sure, completely successful in its revenue-generating intent.
I am in awe of all the talents on display here.
