I was more or less looking at the way Spanish Christian outsiders pushed their religious beliefs in Japan... when in fact it was just to prep them for Spanish troops in a conquering army meant to subjugate and annex them to the Spanish Empire. Then the Shogunate banned Jesuits from Japan. That of course is being specific outside the Samurai Champloo World....other then that, you are correct.

His true motives are to use the government to further his own needs since the age of the samurai is ending in the series. The reason he is referred to as " The Hand Of God" is because of his Divine skills with his sword and the inability for anyone to beat him. Although Jin defeats him by using a "suicidal technique" taught to him by his master Mariya Enshirōu.

@keybladewar I'd have to disagree about Kariya representing any sort of Christian theme. Fuu's father, Kasumi Seizō, was a key player in the Shimabara Rebellion: An uprising by Japanese Catholics against the discrimination they faced. So if anything Kasumi would represent Christianity.

And the reason Christianity was taboo during the Edo Period was because the Tokugawa shogunate persecuted Christians, not because any of the recently converted Japanese felt Christianity had been forced on them.

@moosecow417 Very True! I never truly panned out the story in the anime and compared it with the actual Shimabara Rebellion. Kairiya was a Shogunate dog and even if he did have alternative views of the Laws of that time he had to follow them through. Also after reading the story of the rebellion they were referred to Catholic Christians and then Christians but you are 100% right about the Tokugawa shogunate persecuting them.
