Best? Listen to the Berry original from about 10 years earlier, far subtler. First heard Chuck's version at age 11 or so. My cousin Norman was playing this in his bedroom and I got sent up to join him. Aunty Daisey was goin' ape at the kitchen sink at the horrid 'devil music' thundering down the stairs. Uncle Frank was hiding behind a newspaper, but tapping his carpet-slippered feet. Happy days, I'm 66 now.
Why, exactly, do you think this is a competition. No one was trying to one-up the other. Whatever you like, you like. Why the need to dis others? Chuck Berry wrote it, not these British groups. He got royalties so I guess he liked the Beatles one the most as it probably sold more over the years.
They definitely kick! Absolutely brilliant! There is a cd available, came out recently on Big Beat/Ace label : From Mersyside to Hamburg: the Complete Star-Club Recordings and I can't wait to get it!
fun version. great vocals, but don't get carried away KoivuTheHab, the drummer here, is adequate, but imo, nowhere near as good as Ringo Starr or Mick Avory...as someone pointed out, below, there are no drum rolls. That's no accident, she does those cut-time fills, which is usually the sign of an inexperienced drummer. But she keeps tempo well and I do like this version. Personally, The Kinks version (the cd bonus track/unreleased alternate) that's ultra fast, that's my fave version.
@surfercrow@surfercrow Thats all true, I agree. Thing is a personally prefer a more rough sloppy sound(not to say the Kinks for example at times don't sound really harsh!), perhaps because of my punk roots, in other words as strange as it may sound I love music where the talent is average at best. The best example of this would perhaps be The Germs - Live at the Whiskey 1977 if you are interested to see what I mean, it's all here on youtube.
@surfercrow Truth be told The Germs couldn't play their instruments worth a penny(especially in 1977) but still makes for a great sound! Is that Kinks version you are talking about on Youtube? What CD is it on exactly, I'd like to buy it.
@KoivuTheHab Stronger means having a more emotive and inflective tone, in this case. The Beatles, Hollies, and Kinks' versions are sung as if the singers are meaning what they say, and are living the actions of the lyrics. These girls were good. I'm not saying they weren't, but not for this version. They sing it in the same tone throughout, with no variance.
@sapphiretaurus I see, I would have to disagree on that. In my ears this is a very lively and energetic version. This one easily out classes some of those other versions out there.
@coolhandluke1889 It's a great version, however the tune is too melodic at times for me. They are just a little too skilled with their instruments for the sound I like best =;)

Beats the crap out of the Beatles version! I actually even prefer this to the Hollies and even the Kinks version, awesome!

@KoivuTheHab The Beatles' version, as well and the Hollies's and Kinks' versions, was stronger and had more energry to it than this one.

@sapphiretaurus Define 'stronger'...
