Yes it's rehearsed.. It's a demo! For those who say that Frank's kicks are ineffective - it's called CONTROL! Any prat can can follow a kick through, but it takes real skill to kick a mawashi geri with the ball of the foot to the side of someone's head and stop it so that it just touches. I've been on the receiving end of kicks from both Frank and Andy when they've been demonstrating to classes and know how glad I've been that they have that ability! I was very aware of what was being held back.
Great Video and Great presentation, but the only thing I see wrong is giving he's back to the opponents.. At least he should be checking over he's shoulder once in awhile.. In a street fight never turn you back to the enemy..
sorry. but you put in quotation marks! and in calm reply. no martial art is better than another. it's all about the person and adaptability. i am no master but i've been a student of karate and it had no practical value to ME.
this is so rehersed. karate is probably the most unpractical form of martial arts ther is. just look at how wooden they are. it's all move, move, move to acomplish simply...mooooove.
I study jeet kun do. so realy i look at all martial arts and take what's useful and combine it with my physique(???) and own ability. i am quite partial to the finger locks and throws of hapkido and the close quorters combat of wing chung. i also like some of the kicks from capuera(???) and western boxing.
poor people, noneone want to know what style you practice, the most part of you are ^beginners^, or they are laying. they dont have lives, so they have to say lais. ¬¬, be serios please
theres no way to prove that one style is better, you just have to look at the indeviduals. someone whos an expert at twirling basketballs could beat the greatest fighters, as long as hes good enough at his own style.
I practice Karate for couple years and I don't think is applicable for all real life situations but the same situation is for all martial arts. Regarding the thai boxer or MMA fighter, the regular karate guy would not beat the regular MMA fighter or regular thai boxer.
Saying that a MMA fighter or Thai boxer would improve his game a lot knowing karate .
I've beaten MMA fighters quite easily with karate. And Andy Hug beat a Muay Thai fighter and other kickboxers many times. That statement doesn't hold true for everyone. I do agree with you on karate improving their fighting, though. Two MMA guys that I train with have both improved quite a bit in their standup from karate training.
statementz, id like to know wat kind of training u do for mma. i myself am a karateka, but i dont think it is 100% sufficient to be at a good level in mma
I don't train MMA and I don't compete. I trained in kickboxing with two MMA fighters and sparred with them a lot there. If we did jiu jitsu they would beat me, because they had more training in that area than I do, but in standup I could easily defeat them.
My dad is a 4th dan Black Belt and he completely wasted some idiot who tried to mug him and his mate. I was there. He knocked him out in two KARATE movements. I guarantee a karate guy would beat a boxer, any day.
im a second dan in shotokan karae and compete with the guys in the above video frequently...and even i wouldnt be so retarded as to make comments like that...ive always said that its the person over the style (with the excpetion of a BJJ guy against a standup fighter.
Im sure if you looked hard there is evidence of karate guys beating boxer and boxers beating karate guys...dont give me that one style is better than the other...this is going back to UFC 1. Seriously pick up an MMA DVD.
i dont believe in superior styles its just that ive been doing japanese karate for so long that i prefer it over other styles but i really dought that thai boxing similar to kicboxing could beat a karate student and black belt or any above level and TKD was not just created from shotokan but kung fu and chinese boxing has well and also tang so do its superior style
I doubt he could beat a thai boxer even in his "hayday" or any other mma trained person, unless hes throwing asmany kicks and punchs and sparring daily
Just a little question.. as a shotokan karate-ka I´m very troubled... The competatives are using a sword and a knife (maybe something else, I stopped looking).
im a 1st kyu in shotokan karate (brown and 2 white) and i know what im talking about...jimkel is very very correct in the ability of frank brennon..he used to be a gymnast before fighting therefore he is very fast and supple...the video is staged and doesnt impress me that much
Dude Frank Brennon is one of the foremost Shotokan champions in the world, This is just a demo. Unfortunatly footage of his actual fights is hard to come by but believe me, Unless you are one tough bastard who has trained for a very long time, there is no chance of beating Frank, Esp in his hayday I've seen him fight. I've seen experienced fighters come away absolutley stunned at how fast Frank Demolished them.
Frank is great at SHOTOKAN KARATE. He would beat MANY in a NON CONTACT match. BUT in a no holds barred fight he will find it very difficult to use any move from being on the floor.
sorry, I mean that if its a real fight, the people would be wearing guards, if its staged, the people would not wear guards as in the case of this video
Actually KUGB(Frank Brennan) And JKA tournements are bare knuckle, no guards (Just Gumshield). This is a demo but in the Kumite the punches and kicks are real and they hurt.
lol terry O'neil's a beast...very much in the shadow of Frankie.
you're right about squad, im on it, and i dnt think im gonna go anywhere with it apart from grand slams. However two of the guys above, Chris Cray and Anthony Duffy, those guys are damn good fighters and i dnt think theyre on squad cos theyre "favourites", they are the world champs after all.

You have to agree 90% of people on the squad are let in to keep people from leaving, they have no intention in taking most of them away unless you are a "Favourite"
its nice to see some one else is educated on this, lol i sound like a bitch but il be first to admit I aint the best at karate, and have won and lost due to politics. I think the best thing to come out of the KUGB is Terry O'neil

By fighting from round 1, beating the seeded fighter and then defending that position yourself the following year! different org's differ, in our's we use contact, with only gum shields, no mits or pads (groin guard is optional)
