@vandywilliam - I never knew Monty Kelly played with Paul Whiteman; I always thought he was British! Thanks for the enlightenment! also, I thought he was the soprano saxist, not just the conductor. Who is playing sax - anyone know?
Monty Kelly played trumpet for the Paul Whiteman Orchestra in the 1940s, and the Oakland native later conducted his own orchestra and reached No. 30 on the Billboard charts with this catchy instrumental in the spring of 1960. This was recorded on the Carlton label.
Love this version much more than Acker Bilk's .I used to hear this on my transistor radio hitch-hiking through the midwest on weekends during my last year of high school, eagerly awaiting my permanent exit from South Dakota!
