@StopMotionNAnimation I don't know what kind of Marxist rhetoric you have been listening to, but it is without question that in every engagement the U.S. and the Communist forces engaged in, the U.S. tactically triumphed. Khe Sanh was a failure, but liars like Walter Cronkite spun the story thanks to faulty intel of so called "journalists" and the populace began to turn against the war.
The spineless democrat Congress finally pulled support in 1975.
@beepandbop true, the problem was if the South wasn't going to do the fighting and the U.S. had to keep doing it, it kind of got pointless. Much of the leadership of South Vietnam was taking U.S. support of $ and equipment and funneling it off. There was plenty of documentary footage back then of bases for the South Vietnamese military the U.S. paid for that were totally gutted, like buildings that had all the materials sold off to line someone's pocket. That was well before the fall.
@bc1969214 I agree with you that it was pointless for all that American effort to go into Vietnam. Ironically, I liked Nixon's approach best which was to squeeze the Chinese and Russians out of Vietnam via playing the two wary communist allies against each other. The North Vietnamese did not have a hope in hell of triumphing against NATO itself. Unfortunately Nixon resigned thanks to a massive screw up.
Online somewhere there is a the combat diary of an A1 pilot from the USAF. It was his proudest moment when he became a Sandy pilot, a member of the team.
Almost like suicide missions up North. Jolly's hanging out up there waiting to be turned into sieves and the slow movers (Sandy's) exposed to AAA. Broncos at altitude could be blown out of the sky by SAMs. What a thankless job.
@Harry44Callahan2 Umm, I think that the 'whoopass' was all 'Victor Charles'. Minor point but I think they won that war. Thats what happens when you defoliate millions of acres of primal rainforest and drop more HE than in WW2 cos you're shit at jungle warfare. Actually counterinsurgency in general. Nice job in Iraq and Afghanistan as well BTW. Those countries are so much better off now. "Mission Acomplished" LOL!
Nicely done mission and really nice video find !!

You can still see flying Broncos here in the Philippines. (Philippine Air Force)

This is a fantastic example of the coordination of the Naval forces, which I believe these service members are of.
Well, the initial engagers, the A-1E Skyraider, the HH-3, CH-53, etc.
beepandbop 2 years ago
Not Navy. All units are USAF (SO(S)S and/or ARRS).

@SpotterXY There was little cooperation between USAF and USN combat assets at this level during the Vietnam war.
Ecthaelyon 1 year ago
@Ecthaelyon USN used HH-1K, U/HH-2 and S/HH-3 for its CSAR missions but as you said there was little cooperation between the both branches.

You should read the book "Bury Us Upside Down" by Rick Newman and Don Sheppard. Its about the air battle over the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Gritty read!

@Harry44Callahan2 Those aren't miniguns on the Skyraiders--they're single barrel with a rotary magazine.
The miniguns you're seeing are in the HH-3 and CH-53
