just when u think that u cant crap in one hand and weigh this video in the other. WOW you can plz take that maker in the pooper. yaaaaaa. metal storm. my unit is discret. i leand my unit. i like to fire my unit once a month, if not ime mad.... F it gl g@y vid
The west will need such an area denial weapons system, especially since Russia has the Tulpan. I mean, thats another thing I bet Metal Storm could do, if its really that accurate and capable of firing large caliber rounds then I imagine they could use metal storm to double as a midrange artillery piece. or even better, mass mortars. As long as it can fire some sort of AP rounds I'm happy.
Yeah, there is a mass mortar system they're working on, though it's only 20mm or so i think. However that's only the beginning. Speaking of accuracy, I'm intrigued as to why the barrels aren't rifled on the machine gun variants of MS, yet they still seem to have pin point accuracy.
I know that bullets aren't hard to make or anything, but I just think if round were used with this much excess, there would be a greater shortage of them. definitely.
well think about it this way. that gun could replace some bombs with the kinetic force those waves of bullets provide. I think that'd be more cost effective than spending thousands of dollars per bomb.
True, but can we gauge cost effectiveness at this point? if we develop the system on a widespread scale then find that the thing proves to be tactically inefficient logistically, or even worse, with the advent of EMP tech, incapable to use, then the whole project has major drawbacks/design flaws that have to be considered. But I'm sure they have been, and in general Metal storm is a great system.
That's a much more thought out comment than your original statement(no offense), and I see what you mean. While I don't think there'd be a problem regarding finding the ammunition, the EMP tech will definitely need to be taken into consideration. I think this gun will really shine as a mortar and missile defense system mainly until lasers are more efficient. Cos the amount of mini-gun ammo required to take out one mortar atm is ridiculous
well when I wrote it it was much more shallow than my though process, its just when it comes down to it,to me, its just a matter of bullets and logistical efficiency. You're right about that ADWS mini gun system it does take a ton of ammo. I dunno, hopefully metal storm will be better.
And yeah there are a couple of good vids on here that show just how many bullets are fired from the mini gun system. it's amazing to watch at night though.
I am pretty sure they haven't rifled them for the fact that it takes a away a miniscule amount of speed in which the round can leave the barrel. When rifled, you could only achieve a much lower maximum speed before other rounds are piling up behind the first round. Please corrrect me if I'm wrong.
Your half right, but there is more to it. Flight characteristics are also a factor. You don't want them litteraly landing in the exact same spot, you want them almost landing on the exact same spot with a slight overlay. Makes a bigger hole.
I am still curious as to the whether the accuracy would be reasonable over a long range. I can understand that with such a weapon accuracy isn't that big a problem (1,000,000 rounds, one is bound to hit the target:D ) but if the shooter needs to take down a smaller target using only several rounds over a longer range, what would the effectiveness be?

i'm sorry, but where the heck are you going to get that many bullets?

You'd be surprised.

I think a minigun fires 50 rounds a second, well thats the case with the M134

i can see your point and i tend to agree. i'd still like to know how they get such perfect accuracy from a smooth bore.
toothpik00 3 years ago
That is the same thing I have been thinking about. I am going to research it a bit then see if I can answer our questions.

It's a grenade launcher... handgrenades and horseshoes... It's not a sniper rifle.
Now they do have a gun as well...but it's illegal. Full metal jacket rule.
beefygoblin 2 years ago
What? I'm not talking about a grenade launcher, I am talking about the concept when used as gun firing lower calibre ammunition.
