  • :( spell check

  • Peggy... Yessss they have a kick ass low brass section supporting the trumpets

  • Awesome! I think they sound very good for the size for the group. I'm a drummer and played this at my high school's music talent show in the jazz ensemble...so much fun to play. when was this filmed?

  • geez this is amazing hahaha top horn player probably gives him self a aneurism playing this lol props thou.. mega props and haters stop hating cause you will never be this good

  • Classic.

  • gamesharks8912 was the one Dislike.

  • Why haven't more people watched this? Mindboggling!

  • Not trying to offend anyone here but what are Future Corps?

  • Are those TRIPLE-stacked bass drums?

    Jesus.

  • i could be wrong in stating this, and PLEASE correct me if i am, but i've been under the impression that, (while impossible to keep in tune) G bugles are pitched higher than Bb trumpets.

  • ltille mistake at 1:35 - 1:37 Thumbs up if you can hear it but still dont mind it because they rock! Hell yeah!=D

  • @xProNubCake technically it is not a mistake, it's improv... like my band teacher says... Make a mistake, play it again, Call it JAZZ!

  • @animalover2422

Thats what my drum teacher says hehe :)

They are realy good damn xD

  • @xProNubCake Well then... Our teachers must be like Psycopathically connected... lol.

  • I'm loving that bass harness!

  • G Bugle? thats pretty easy for any professional.

  • i havent been to epcot....

but im pretty sure its either magic kingdom or islands of adventure/universal has a band like this too. i was there is 1999 and 2001. anyone else know what im talking about?

from what i remembered they were wearing red

  • @SNSKreationz

Universal/IOA didn't have a band when I was there in April of 2008. I don't recall seeing anything on the entertainment list.

Magic Kingdom has had a band in the daytime parade that marches in red and white uniforms. The one I saw was a brass band with trumpets, trombones and sousaphones instead of G bugles like FC used (soprano, melophone, baritone & contra). They also had three drummers (snare, quads and single bass).

  • thats the same thing i saw back in 2001 im sure. they had saxophones im sure. and i am positive they had a bass drummer. ill look into that because i really wanna see them again on my next visit :)

    thx

  • @SNSKreationz

You're welcome. I don't recall seeing saxophones, but it's possible. I think it was 2005 or 2007 that I saw them. Can't remember. I got the impression that it was actually the Tomorrowland band just with different uniforms and marching in the parade. If they had saxophones as well, it could have been the sax quartet/quintet joining them.

Disney has been cutting entertainment groups. Not sure if they're still there. Voices got cut down to 8 singers at Epcot.

  • Wow does this take me back, to the late 80's with Bob Franklin, Paul Collins, Bubba, etc. Good job, studs.

  • i thin he was just having a bad day

  • Really cool. But solo starting at 1:30 was pretty weak. Maybe a bad day?

  • This IS Brass Machine. BRING BACK FUTURE CORPS!!!

  • @RJm8488 Agreed, a great arrangement and performance of this piece. Heard this thing mangled horribly by countless HS groups....

  • Is this a jazz drum corps?

  • i need to learn the 2nd part for this.... cause our school band is gunna mabe play it! urrrggh. lots of practice :(

  • Metalfreak63, umm...... Brass Roots??? I checked a few videos with Brass Roots and it sounds nothing like this.

  • sorry lol I was thinking balistic brass when I made that comment

  • correction. I was thinking balistic brass. this one is brass machine lol

  • i love the samba part (x

  • Comment removed

  • I love the samba part too, StickyxSkittle. Whenever I think of this video, when it gets to the samba part the whole image just rotates 30 degrees, like the song.

This is definitely a wonderful piece and I think it would be fun to learn.

  • its a really fun song, we play it in Jazz Band (:

  • I miss the G bugles of the old corps. These guys are amazing.

  • Agreed TWBaltz. I definitely prefer the G bugles. Today's corps lost something with the switch to Bb (well..... the amplified commentary doesn't help either).

And yeah, these guys were amazing.

  • o really? how come i don't see any video of you playing trumpet on your videos?

  • no no thats my brother who made the comment, thats my channel and he doesnt make any videos but he is good

  • I just love these comments that they're not that good..... Especially when the poster says they can do better, but don't post anything to back it up. I'm still waiting to see something from m4dclaw.........

And as has been said before, these aren't trumpets. They're using G bugles.

Oh and BTW..... your brother really shouldn't be posting under your account. Let him make his own account.

  • hahaha very well said kmabru. those people have no idea who The Future Corps is.

  • Exactly timpanista. They have no idea who the guys are, where they're from or what drum corps used to be.

If anyone says it's not good, I wonder if they can do better. If they say they can, I want to see proof.. and not just on a trumpet. Let's see them do it on a G bugle.

The videos are great but don't do the group justice. First saw them in 1990. When I rounded the corner, I was amazed at the sound of just three drummers and 10 horns (missing 1 contra). Was expecting a bigger group.

  • you're lucky u saw them live. i never had the chance to saw them live but i had the privilege of working with the lead trumpet Bob Franklin and the bass drum player Paul Collins during the opening of hong kong disneyland. they're not just great musician but nice people too.

  • That must have been great to meet and work with some of them. I did get to talk briefly with one of the horn players in 1998 about the rack mounted drums.

Anyway.... in 1990, I caught just about every performance over a 2 day period. Saw them a few more times between then and 1994. It was just incredible to me that such a small group could sound so full.

Was really disappointed when I went in 2001 to find they were no longer there.

  • @kmabru and the G bugle is much harder to play then the standard Bb trumpet

  • @gamesharks8912 where you trying to get a rise out of people or are you just stupid? and im a snare drummer.

  • @gamesharks8912 If you were really good, you wouldn't have felt a need to put down other trumpet players.

  • @gamesharks8912 I actually kind of agree. While they are good with technicals, their tone is pretty bad.

To everyone telling gameshark to "post a reply video," it doesn't take someone who can actually DO better to recognize someone who isn't very good.

  • @Fragite They're playing on G bugles which are harder to play than standard Bb brass. They also will always have a different tonal quality regardless of the ability of the players. G bugles have a raspier tone. Also, if I remember correctly, these are prototype 3 valved horns.

As for your comment on recognizing when someone isn't very good... are you saying they weren't very good? These guys are pros and most if not all came from Top 12 DCI corps.

  • Wow, on G bugles... Kinda wish i could of seen this live..

  • i dont understand how anyone is walking around the park, while there is this AMAZING music being played.

  • omg, too fast... MUCH too fast!

  • when your that good, you can play as fast as you want.

  • not realy - the aren't good... the song doesn't "groove" in this tempo.. and the trumpets are somehow bad..

  • m4dclaw, they're not good?! You're kidding, right? I guess you can do better.

I don't know what you see wrong with the tempo. I just listened to a number of Brass Machine videos..... All but one seemed too slow. That one sounded like a studio recording. It was David Stahl. The tempo was almost the same as this.

FYI.... those are G bugles so they're not trumpets. They're sopranos. But I'm just nitpicking.

  • no i'm not kidding - come to germany and i'll show you, that i can do it better!

  • m4dclaw, Travel to Germany just to see you prove it........ Not gonna happen. Why not post a video?

  • u'll see - i'll poste a vid!

  • Let me know when it's posted.

  • I played this in my high school jazz band. Cool stuff.

  • Good god what year is this 1980

  • I played this in high school

  • This brings back some great memories from 1987. I worked with the other band at EPCOT and had the pleasure of hanging out with some of these guys. That's Bubba on snare, the man from Wisconsin on tri's and the fantastic Paulie Collins on bass drums. Bob Franklin was a great leader and bugle player. Sorry I can't remember more of their names -- I'm over 50, dudes.

  • This group live was just unbelievable. Bob Franklin playing Lead is STILL my Hero!!! He was just unreal... Working at Disney and being able to just go EPCOT anytime, specifically to hear him play Lead and his soaring tone was a treat...

  • SWEET!!

  • i think it´s a bit to fast,or am ia wrong?

  • it's pretty much same tempo as maynard ferguson's version.

  • this is a unique version the normal one is different

  • Music sounds nice.

But dear god the outfits are horrible.

  • better than the reverse I guess

  • i love how the trumpets are playing the melody up an octive like it's nothing, and how the contras are killin the pedal notes!

    this is kickin'

you should also listen to them play "everybody loves the blues" it's discustingly amazing

  • Maynard Ferguson plays this two octives higher than this.you should listen to it..

  • I have a version of future corps doing this where he takes it as high as maynard does...if not higher

  • we played this and i thought that we sounded pretty good, but these guys are playing up tempo and cleaner than we ever did

  • Great peace of music!

  • The articulation in this whole song is absolutely sick!!!!!!!!!!

  • its not a band its a drum corps!

  • Fantastic band

  • we play this in my higschool jazz band (crazy)

we have a junior that can hit "the note" in the solo haha

  • except he plays it up an octave (not old man style)

  • we do too and our junior can hit higher than "the note"

  • I'm a "the note" able junior :P. I'm not the lead, so I don't have it, but our lead is also a "the note" hitting junior.

  • Lead trumpet is dope... I wonder who it is??????

  • I would love to do this song in our marching band. Its just the right tempo and beat for it! It would rock!

  • simply amazing. just amazing. i would love to see this band live.

  • DAMN

  • Are these guys playing cornets?

  • do they are playing g bugles. what drum corps used to play before switching to the Bb trumpet

  • I think those were the prototype 3 valve G bugles. I read somewhere that Future Corps was using 3-valves before DCI. Note the triple bass drums. This puts this video before 1997 or so. They switched to the rack mounted drums around that time. Other videos on Youtube with the triple bass drums are circa 1991. Have to say, I always felt the triple-bass sounded better than the 6 rack mounted bass drums. Much better sound projection. Also Future Corps disbanded I think in early 2001.

  • Based on the personnel, this was recorded in late 1987.

  • Older than I thought then. I figured it was no older than 1991 like the others. Didn't think 3-valves were in use as far back as '87.

  • dude, the 3-valved trumpet is older than the jazz age

  • dude......... key word there is trumpet. Yes, 3 valve trumpets have been around since the year of the flood. Future Corps didn't use trumpets. They used G bugles. For many years, G bugles were 2 valves.

DCI made the switch to 3 valves over a multi-year period. Just not sure when (late 80's, early 90's???). Future Corps made the switch earlier than DCI (they had the prototype horns).

Note, the DCI corps have started to switch to Bb instruments.

  • ah, but you didn't specify what instrument, my friend

  • Just sent you a private message.

  • Started I believe all dci corps now play on Bbs. Pioneer was the last to switch like 2 years ago.

Now DCA corps still use Bugles ( well some ) like statesmen.

  • wow

    they are amazing.

  • Make no mistake these guys are all great, but for me... anyone besides Maynard himself playing this song just seems to fall short. Great effort though!

  • Maynard never played this song. But Maynard rocks in lot of other songs!!

  • Maynard never played this song. But Maynard rocks in lot of other songs!!

  • Yes, he did.

  • No, he didnt. This song is wrongly labeled as Maynards...

  • wasnt it dave stahl, or chase?

  • There are two versions, one with Dave Stahl and one with Dave Stahl.

The most commonly heard version is the Army Blues, which is actually titled Scream Machine. It is Dave Detwiler featured on that one.

  • nice visors...

    nice pants...

  • its the future haha

  • bochawa, maynard actually does play this... i got it on itunes... do ur research

  • definately like dave stahl's "Scream Machine" better

  • Check out my video response! Awesome video by the way nice soli!

  • heys palying in e up a 5th a step like maynard fergusun does

  • Actually, Maynard played this about four years ago at my friend's high school.

  • wrongggggg

  • Cool!!! WHAT A GREAT TUNE!

  • so do basically all bands inprov the 2 nd solo?

  • Does anyone else notice that the Bass Drummer is marching Trip Bass Drums?! HOLY WTF?!

  • Fantastic band!!!!!who's doing the trumpet solo?bravo!!

  • 2:59 Low brass ftw?

  • what keyed trumpet is he playing on?

  • those are G bugles

  • thx That is what I was thinking but the more i looked it looked very similar to a cornet and I was wondering how that was possible lol. thx again.

  • no problem.

i honestly don't know what year. maybe around 84-88. i just got this video from bob franklin, the trumpet player doing the first solo.

  • Do you think you could get a recording of When You Wish Upon a Star? My Band has a gig at Disney Land and my Director said I could pick the song if I could get the info. All I need is a sample.

  • which version of when you wish? future corps have their version of it by i don't have it. you can search here in youtube. i'm sure you'll find it

  • I need The Future Corps' one. I've been searchimg YouTube everyday. Futurecorpsfan closed his account and his MySpace page and he had multiple recordings. Thanks though.

  • AWESOME! What year was this taken? Thanks for uploading!!
