  • Performances like this haven't totally gone away. We all just crave the music of our own generation.

  • i love collarborations..and the respect great artists have for one another.. and honesty and respect that isn't always in every profession..

  • Great Steve, great Chaka. Cheers to two real genius.

Only knew them singing together by the original recording and video.

    What an amazing live performance!

Saw SW & Eric Clapton show yesterday in Tokyo. An unforgettable night.

  • Good paira lungs on BOTH dese people .... ; )

  • Am electrified by Steve & Chaka's original. Rushing off to give my lady a session ;)

  • I tried listening to the cover version of James Vincent McMorrow (Irish folk singer), and I found it dull, lifeless, boring, and monotonous. Yeah sure, gotta respect the opinions of others, but how can one not like this ORIGINAL Steve Winwood version? The original is colorful, dynamic, and full of lively rhythmic sensation. The tune, the singing have such a TIMELESS qualities to it, great song from a wonderful era in music... the 80's!!!

  • Love Chaka Khan......................

  • This is a good Winwood track featuring Chaka. What is amazing to me is how well Chaka, one of the most powerful lead and improvizational vocalists ever, manages to stay in her secondary lead role and respect Steve's primary lead throughout this track. This is fairly easy for producers to control in a studio setting (check out the original version of this track), but much more difficult for a natural soloist to do live (check out any Patti LaBelle live collaboration). Go Steve!!! Go Chaka!!!

  • chaka's one of my favorite singers and winwood's one of my favorite everythings. have all his albums since spencer davis. they're all wonderful. always tried to catch winwood when he'd come to town with traffic, blind faith, clapton, and solo concerts. never dissappointed. always provided genius like uplifting, introspective music and many holy goodtimes. steve's music will live inside me long into and beyone my next few lives.

  • I'm actually surprised that Winwood came out as the stronger vocalist here.

I love ya Chaka, but honey, your intonation is noticably off.

  • @Nacho66 I hear ya on that, Nacho. she's a great singer, but she her tonal style here just doesn't mesh with his. Great groups like The Band were amazing in that their vocals sounds just blended perfectly. Here is an example of where two people singing in tune just don't jibe.

  • Mancini is the man!

  • I love this song, and I love Chaka, but this performance is a hot mess!

  • wiwood tore it up. and chaka provided perfect harmony. i'd've liked to see patti kick some of that. like she rocked that song w/ the blind country boy.

  • Chaka is the Queeeeeeeeeeeeeeen!

  • chaka is awesome

  • Stece Winwood might be my favorite musician, but it's still funny to see that a man with a voice so black sounding dances oh so white.

  • @123crashdummie I thought he was black until I saw a picture of him.

  • @ElmerFudd16 It's easy to make the mistake. And I just realised I called him "Stece". Smooth.

  • man...did she get ANY of the lyrics right? she sounds drunk 0_o

  • Yes Chaka Khan is True In this Moving like she is enjoying the music lovin her :)

  • They sound so good.

  • Chaka Khan makes this performance great by herself

  • I love this song. Brings

    Back old

    Memories

    Of

    My

    Childhood.:)

  • She forgot the words!

  • both working hard

  • STEVE WINWOOD/Higher Love

    スタジオ録音が無いので、チャカカーンとのライヴヴァージョンで…。

  • Chaka could take a NOTHING of a band of wannabes and turn it into the biggest force in music. Hey, wait! She did just that! Check out the history of Rufus, the band she fronted in the 1970s -- rather -- the band who backed her when she flew the coop!

  • its such an uplifting song. brilliant.

  • Winwood is awesome...that is usual thing. But she is fantastic, totally in parity with him, if not better...that is so unbelievable.

  • You know i bet you after chaka khan starred on that lame ass episode of phineas and ferb a bunch of little kids looked her up and hopefully they stumbled on this song cause this is awesome

  • Music can definitely bring people together.

  • @WoundedEgo That's almost always true.

  • Holy sh... I just learned TODAY that Chaka Khan sang on Higher Love and I knew that song since forever!!!!!

  • @amazingdany chaka sang on winwoods releease or she covered it

  • Anyone remember when VH1 stood for Video Hits 1??

  • Steve Winwood is my hero! I was a child in the 90's, but songs like this are legen-wait for it-dary ^^ love it

  • @BusaccaNr1 i see him about once year last time with a small band backing santana usually winwood good with either. short quiet set. like now i would ratersee lyly lovett with big band

  • @patrickoreilly30 ...no he dont...what is that supposed to be?...a compliment?...soul means sounding like yourself and being unique...not "sounding black"

  • oh i miss performers like these so so much today. the whole music industry is so seriously fucked up.

  • the band sounds like a studio track! perfect

  • que temazo!!

  • Not quite the clash of the titans that it should be. Everyone's off by quite a bit, I'm afraid.

  • This a lot better than the version he did with whoopi, holy smokes she ruined that song she was singing all the harmonies wrong

  • The future of music looks dim. Who will take their places?

  • love chaka and windwood

  • Steve Winwood's voice is great each time, just like the studio version. Who else can do that?

  • Would anyone know in what year they performed this?

  • Were all these Windwood videos done with a camcorder in front of the TV? Great song, great artists, bad representation. And I LOVE this song!!!

  • excellent

  • I met Chaka in the bathroom of the Viper Lounge in LA in 99-she was doin a show for the NAMM convention-very nice lady....

  • Ooooh, old Chaka sounds like she was havin trouble stayin in pitch (she keeps goin REALLY 'flat') I used ta live next door to her when we lived in New Yaawk an i guess all the shit that we all went through, maybe did affect her voice...coz as i've bin typing this comment the clip has been playing away, and she was all OVER the shop...flat AND sharp...Jeez,now iss stopped i'm tryin ta member if she actually did get any 'bang on' notes at all.Wish i hadn't heard that now,coz i luv the actual track!!

  • This song makes me think deeply. This song makes me dance. The combination is delightful.

  • I read somewhere that Chaka said Steve Winwood had more soul in him than all other white singers put together -- or something like that. He's a life-long fave of mine, going way back to his days in Traffic.

  • @TimeWarpLady

Darrell Hall has as much soul as ol Stevie.

  • wow brilliant!

  • This is 1 of those great songs that's like vintage wine, it just taste sweeter with time. Bring it 2 me baby! Where it at! LOL

  • Steve is great, but Chaka has so much power she's amazing.

  • i saw steve and chaka singing together at montreux jazz last year... a magic!

  • The normal song is better then this live version!

  • @PsychoRey .. i dont know,,, thats some mean.. mean.. funk guitar going on.......!! whole band kicking mad funk...

  • awesome live version of this song!!

  • Hm. When was this performance recorded? Is the VH1 honors show from 1997?

  • Chaka Khan...sexiest woman alive in this video....:-)

  • @mikebaggies doesn't she have big weigh swings very attractive

  • they did collaborate before.....Khan sings on the original recorded version. She also arranged the vocal on Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" and has recorded with Joni Mitchell, too.

  • bring me a higher love. ooh~ XD

  • I love her..

  • I'm sure she [Chaka Khan] was in the original video with him [Steve Winwood]

  • She is

  • She looked slimmer in the video, but it was her.

  • @Dedokai32 did she ever tour with paul butterfield

  • @Dedokai32 i remember here covering at last then doing disco i feel for you. is winwood cover recent Etta james gets angry at peopleb doing her songs

  • Thanks verlisse for the share he still has a wonderful very special voice love it!!!!!

  • BRANG

    MEY

    A

    HAYAH

    LA...

    HO

  • sing it sista!

  • She worked and rocked that house on that

particular night. Killed it and nailed it. She's the best singer ever that ever breathe air on earth. So underrated and she's a beast!

  • @foxymidnite Yeah...she 'killed it' alright...as in nailing down the coffin LID,LoL!!As i've said to the guy above (or below...i can't work out where this comment will be placed!!) she was literally FIGHTING to stay in pitch in this performance, right from the opening bars of the track!!I wont rewrite what i juss put above/below this...juss read the reply to 'paddyOmalley' to get the rest (if you're even interested of course) as it shows that i certainly AINT 'anti~Chaka'!!XXXX!!

  • @foxymidnite -- She's hella fine too!

  • great song great performer""" LOVE IT!"

  • For example check out the other live version, which was in the 80s...

  • Still just doesn't sound anywhere near as good as in the 80s, why ever since the 80s do songs have to sound weak?

  • age of performer

  • Great Duet! One of my all time favorite duets and their has been some legnds out there! Luv Steve & Chaka!

  • Chaka always brings it!!!

  • Chaka's dynamic vocal colors and textures along with her unique impeccable phrasing and chops made this version better than any other version.

  • You nailed it bro. Agreed.

  • @paddeyOmalley and I agreee

  • @paddeyOmalley i AGREE THANKS 4 SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT!

  • @paddeyOmalley We MUST have been listening to completely different clips...coz she WAS flat and sharp throughout the majority of this performance!!!!An don get me wrong...i LOVE Chaka, the woman (spent a lot of time with her) AND her talent/voice,so i'm most certainly NOT a disliker of Chakks...not at ALL!!She was really fighting to stay in pitch in this, right from the opening bars!!She 'pulled it off' mainly due to her professionalism and dynamic 'presence'...NOT by vocal abilities alone!!XXXX!!

  • @paddeyOmalley Any other version? She's on the original version!

  • @paddeyOmalley ...for sure paddey!!!

  • @paddeyOmalley about ho wold chaka

  • @paddeyOmalley i think steve's vocals are more suited to this song so i prefer the original

  • @paddeyOmalley she sang on most of the other versions

  • what's the point?

  • Chaka knows how powerful she is, but she is also humble about her talent. That's why she's very generous when she's duetting with people. Which makes me love her even more for it!!

  • EXACTLY! That's the mark of a true artist!

  • Chaka should have drowned his ass lol

  • my wife loves some Chaka Khan, so i have to send this to her channel, "missu4u" and this happens to be one of her fav songs too! so glad you post it!~Phurdrick

  • NICE

  • simply fantastic!!!!

  • She still could go for the big ones even if she was obviously hoarse.
