25 Miles in a school zone that is "active" meaning children are out and about, is perfectly reasonable. It does save lives. Kids can do very silly things like dart out between park cars, and all kinds of things. This allows an "alert driver" to react normally in time to prevent something tragic. Some signs, go as far as to give actual hours one must do the 25 speed limit even if not a single child is present. To people grumbling, just do the 25, it's barely for a mile anyway!
@whocarez I bet you're an old lady who gets cut-off all the time and not a god damn thing happens to either driver. Get over it and learn how to drive you old hag.

Obviously TVman1981 doesn't know anything about engineering, and how it is excessive speed that contributes to accidents, not going over a limit posted 20 mph too low. If you're sick of this bullshit, visit the national motorists association at motorists (dot) org
@sociopathicregret... Thank you for answering that question youself ..I am not an "engineer" and have no intention to become one .....the segment is called "People Behaving Badly " not how to propertly engineer a street so cars can drive faster. And even if I were a "Engineer" and cited my findings about traffic flow and speed verses distance there would someone to offer a counter claim... So I will leave the "Engineering" to the experts and stick to only what I can see with my two eyes.
@TVman1981 Here's the problem: putting the speed limit at 25 is actually contributing to accidents more than the people exceeding the limit. Low speed limits increase speed variance, because a few people try to comply with the law and others go with the flow. You're not an engineer, but you should report both sides of the story. If the law is wrong, its 'the law behaving badly', not 'people behaving badly'. Those statements are backed up by studies and can be found with your own two eyes : )
@TVman1981 If the city council sets the speed limit unsafely in the face of engineering evidence, and the police enforce said limit, they're promoting unsafe practice. "The Law Behaving Badly"
@TVman1981 I don't know why people give you so much shit Stanley. I enjoy watching your videos and seeing idiots getting busted. Keep up the good work man!
I wish cops would rather go after the tailgaters and other road rage assholes. You know , like the asshole taxis that stop in the middle of the street and clog up traffic and then want to flash their high beams behind you at night when you are driving normal and doing the speed limit.
This is a four lane arterial, of COURSE people are not going 25! It's an unreasonable limit. Why doesn't the creator of this video actually read up on traffic engineering? I've said this about five times, and he continually ignores me. You're not supposed to set speed limits arbitrarily low; not only is it stupid and does nothing for safety, but it is actually technically illegal.
If you practice hypermiling you will never get speeding tickets bc you try your best to get good mileage and speed destroys mileage. Most cops will give you 5 over for tire size etc. 1mph over Golden Meadow La is not one of those towns. They have been featured on 20/20 among other news programs they are in it for the profit. I try to be 30-15 min early to prevent speeding lucky I havent had a ticket in 22 years and I drive commercially it can be done.
Finally, school zones only should apply if road is actually close to the school (theres been some cheap stuff about townships setting schoolzones 1/4 mile away). Also, they should only apply if kids are within 50 feet of the road. Get rid of them near high schools imo too.
In total, we’re talking about 7.5 to 15 billion dollars annually from tickets for government agencies and insurance companies. That’s more money than several states take in from all taxes! Worse still, that total doesn’t even include the money that “traffic schools,” attorneys, radar-detector manufacturers, and scanner producers make.
@blotto85 Realistically, there is no connection between receiving an occasional traffic ticket and the likelihood of being in an accident. So, there is no justification for charging a person more for auto insurance because they were convicted for a random traffic violation. The purpose of insurance is to cover unusual risk. The act of exceeding an unreasonably low limit is hardly an “unusual risk.” That means speeding ticket surcharges are pure profit for the insurance industry.
@blotto85 If just half of these tickets result in insurance surcharges (typically at least $300 over a period of three years), you can add another 3.75 to 7.5 billion dollars in profit for insurance companies. This is why insurance companies “care” so much traffic “safety” programs and are willing to donate millions of dollars worth of radar and laser guns to the police. For them, it’s simple: more tickets equal more money!
@blotto85 No one knows how many traffic tickets are actually issued. Many local units of government deliberately hide this information so they don’t have to split their traffic ticket revenue with the state. Not including parking tickets, we can estimate that somewhere between 25 and 50 million traffic tickets are issued each year. Assuming an average ticket cost of $150.00, the total up front profit from tickets ranges from 3.75 to 7.5 billion dollars.
@blotto85 Traffic tickets are a multi-billion industry. They have virtually nothing to do with highway safety, but they have everything to do with money.
When you begin to grasp the full magnitude of the public and private interests that depend on ripping off motorists through traffic tickets, you begin to understand why this unethical system continues to expand every year.
@blotto85 yea blotto85 it is true that traffic tickets bring in revenue for cities. That's how our government works along with the economy. The down side for law enforcement is that we are out here trying to do our jobs and enforce traffic safety but it is all over shadowed by the almighty dollar. If you want to avoid surcharges, suspensions and what on your license/insurance, don't break the traffic law.
So wait. Are tickets for public safety? Or are they for generating revenue for cities? Last time I checked the police departments job was to keep us safe, not take our money! I do agree with you on "trying to do our jobs." As a low ranking officer you don't have much say, and you can't change things. If you did stand up spoke out over this corrupt system you would be denied for promotion and most likely fired.
@blotto85 tickets are supposed to be for traffic safety, thats why we have traffic law. The flip side of it is that it does create revenue for cities/counties. Often when people get a ticket they immediately assume cops are out trying to make money for the city nothing more, which is not true. As I said, the real issue of enforcing traffic law as part of the job/safety is shadowed by and labeled as "government trying to make money".
The average raise in insurance costs for one speeding ticket over the course of a years is $300.00. Speeding tickets stay on your record for 3 years (some states it's 5)
34,000,000 x $900 = $30,600,000,000 (30.6 BILLION dollars) in extra insurance money the insurance industry makes in a 3 year period just from speeding tickets!!
THIS IS INSANE. CHANGE WILL COME
This is not about money going to fix roads or improve schools, this is 100% pure corruption.
@blotto85 Law enforcement has no control on how much your insurance company charges you for your premium. Second, you can always opt to take defensive driving or get deffered adjudication instead of paying the full fine. That will not go on your driving record which will not raise your insurance. When you buy a house you pay taxes to the government (which can be use to fix roads) and you pay school tax (to improve schools). That's economics not corruption. Learn how your taxes work.
You need to be very careful what orders you are obeying and enforcing. Do you think the Gestapo we're think "Hey this is wrong, we shouldn't be shooting unarmed civilians and herding them into camps like cattle!" No, they were following orders. They truly believed they were doing the right thing. And after the war Germany and the rest of the world would be a peaceful and wonderful place.
70 years later they are viewed as some of the most evil humans to have ever exist.
@blotto85 umm...there is a difference between the Gestapo and modern law enforcement. Of course you know what I said about people having their own agenda against law enforcement. Of course I am just ready for you now to start saying how much of a police state we are becoming right? Gestapo....lol
Remove as many due process protections for traffic law offenders as is politically possible. This not only further discourages people from contesting their tickets, but it also ensures that those that do will have a much more difficult time defending themselves.
Keep the ticket prices below the pain threshold that would compel motorists to aggressively contest traffic citations in court. They know that if fines got too high, motorist would fight heir tickets, and trials eat up all the profit.
Maintain a public relations campaign that claims traffic tickets are only given to bad drivers, and that these drivers should pay for the cost of enforcement. This is how you make it appear logical that the police and courts are funded through traffic ticket receipts.
Blow out of proportion the effects of various traffic violations. They constantly talk about “carnage” on our roads, despite the fact that we have the lowest level of traffic fatalities in history.
Pass enough laws so that anybody can be stopped at anytime and be given a ticket for a traffic violation. Trivial or concocted traffic law violations are also frequently used as an excuse to stop, detain, and search persons for whom the police have no other legitimate reason to do so.
speed limits don't mean anything, they don't make us safer!!!! You're either paying attention when your driving or your not. You could be a highly focuses D1 racer flying through here at 170mph and still be safe, compared to somebody who just got off their second job night shift, very tied, diving 25mph, run straight into a kid crossing the street.
@blotto85 If speed limits didn't mean anything they wouldn't be around. Yes I agree that you are either paying attention or you are not but when you add driver inattention + speed or any other factor = deadly results period. The bottom line is noone likes to be "harassed" by law enforcement by being pulled over.
@Txpeaceofficer Thats not true though, sometimes laws are made for one reason then end up doing something else because our government doesn't work efficiently. Stuff that is meaningless will stay on the books for decades just because of political inertia and such.
@Txpeaceofficer So I'm going to challenge your statement....if I am for MORE enforcement targeting aggressive, inattentive, and tailgating drivers, if Im for MORE police presence, and if Im for greater penalties for such behavior, how exactly am I "anti law enforcement"??? Our society isn't so simple as "If something is pointless it wouldn't exist, therefore because it exists it must be fair and have a point". It just doesnt work that way. Been shown that reasonable limits also REDUCES crashes.
@sociopathicregret It just seems you have a huge problem with police enforcing speed limits that you feel are "too low" or out dated. You are saying lets increase some speed limits and hope everyone drives the new speed limit when the reality of it is a lot of drivers do not drive the speed limit to begin with. The cure all of raising speed limits is just going to make the drivers speed above whatever is posted so that isn't really a solution.
@sociopathicregret Oh and when you determine your idea of "reasonable limits" that you expect society to open arm embrace by all means share it. Why not lobby your cause? You will find out people's "reasonable limits" are all over the place. Look at how much scrutiny law enforcement's "reasonable suspicion" comes under.
@Txpeaceofficer 85th percentile traffic speed rounded up to nearest 5 mph. No speed limit on major highways in middle + left lane; no SL in right lane late at night. No speed limit on any non residential/urban road except during rush hr times. Speed limit increased by 50% during non congested/rush hr times on all other roads (probably only night in many areas). Breaking limits SECONDARY offense, but if obvious carelessness can lead to drastically increased fines as you go up.
Now before you tell me that everyone is gonna go 90 down someone's neighborhood driveway, remember that the vast majority will continue at the same speed, and almost all the crazy idiots commit other infractions such as improper passing, tailgating, and not signaling.
First off vehicle these days are designed at the pinnacle of safety and performance. On high end vehicles you'll likely see big brake kits installed straight from the factory. San Mateo is a very rich area in the SF Bay Area .
I mean, speed limits were engineered a really long time ago when cars behaved very differently, and people probably had slower reaction times given that they're all techcnologized and hyped up now. The problem is that in our government, things don't change appropriately to suit the times. Thats why you get stuff like this....its out of place for 2010 and beyond. So basically you get what was intended to be used one way used a very diff way; ie speed traps where they get people on technicalities
I don't mean to flood this video with so many comments, but here's another example: There's a road near where I live recently lowered from 50 mph to 35 because a few mcmansions are being built. A SCIENTIFIC traffic study recently confirmed that the limit did not need to be changed; most traffic was traveling 52-54 mph. The road is wide with huge shoulders. Residents wanted 40 but county forced 35. Now the place is gonna be a huge speed trap and there will be more tailgating and accidents.
@sociopathicregret Well, I have read all your comments. I agree on some points and disagree with a lot. There are some drivers that obey the limits and there are alot that don't. I will say again the speed limit signs are there for a reason and with good cause. When you have seen the things I have on the job with speed and traffic related problems you might have a different opinion. People just don't pay attemtion to what they are doing while driving.
@Txpeaceofficer Well I agree with you on the inattentive moronic drivers, there's just a better way to make the roads safe than pulling people over randomly because they're going a certain number. I bet if police were a little more clever and didn't use obvious unmarked cars, they could get three times as many people for tailgating as they do in the speed traps. Oh man one time there was almost a pileup because I braked for an injured animal and these idiots were tailgating the guy behind me
@sociopathicregret Sorry, but some of your arguments are flawed. Everyone behaves when they see a marked unit driving down the road. In fact the new police unmarked "ghost cars" end up catching more violaters than a regular patrol car. Like a lot of anti law enforcement people, I think you have your own agenda towards law enforcement. I hear the excuses daily, its always someone else's fault and when in doubt lets just bash law enforcement.
@Txpeaceofficer Well I wouldn't go making assumptions like that...police are necessary in any civilized society. So I'm not anti-law enforcement. I'm against abusing the letter of the law, though. The thing is, if you have police conducting traffic enforcement in a FAIR AND HONEST manner, you not only save way more lives, but you gain a lot more respect from the public...it's not bashing, its just that the current system is set up inappropriately. Whats to lose?
@Txpeaceofficer I mean, whats to lose? I guarantee you that what I suggested would save more lives than speed traps. And true, I guess people behave themselves when police cars are present, though it could be argued that people also slam on the breaks when they see the cars on the median, creating dangerous situations and the possibility of pile ups when there's a lot of tailgating. I'm all for a greater police presence and no mercy on tailgaters/aggressive drivers, but speed traps are bullshit.
@sociopathicregret What I meant by having your own agenda towards law enforcement is nothing that I say is obviously going to change your mind or view about speeding tickets. Your mind is made up. I post here to try and share some insight from the inside, being in law enforcement now for 14 years and counting. The unfortunatel reality is society generally looks down on law enforcement.
The problem with school zones is that I end up looking more at the speedometer rather than the street where children could be, because I'm worried I'm going to be over the limit.
Those portable units should be used to prove the posted speed limits are too low so that the greedy police brass can collect more revenue from the people.

its called lidar for a reason...it LIES!!! I swear get a fuckin life fuckin cops not even bullshitting you grow some balls and catch some murderers and drug dealers and child molesters, instead of fuckin sitting there on your lazy ass. I'm actually in the military serving my country.
I agree 100% bro. I wish I could get paid to sit on my ass and pull people over all day giving out speeding tickets like its Pez candy, and then while Im still on the clock, Im gonna park my lazy ass at Dunkin Doughnuts, pack my fat face, and pull people over from the comfort of the DnD parking lot lol. And people talk about how difficult it is to be a cop lmao! What a fucking joke. Theyre obviously not out arresting REAL criminals, they gotta pick on average Joe, working class American.
This is right by my high school. Cops would wait right there.. BECAUSE CARS ARE COMING DOWN A HILL. What do you expect? The cars have to go back up an incline right where the cops are waiting, so it's stupid to brake to go 25, unless the stoplight is red. Might as well just cruise down the hill, knowing you have to go back up anyways.
x2. Saves a lot of time when people contest the ticket to show proof of calibration/speed. Just show the damn radar/unit and it will help the cost of court dates and appearances.
@chucnguyen They have to show you if you ask. You can report their name and badge number if they refuse, mistreat you, or lie to you. You also have every right to ask them for that information, and they legally MUST give it to you.
@samgoose Depending on the states, not every cop have to show their radar. Of course, if someone mistreat or lie to you, you could report them but with what evidence?
that white van guy is a retard. First of all learn proper english secondof all he said he thought it was 35 but he still went 44 whic is still speeding
I use Lidar when I run radar. I love it. We used to use a shitty one that coudlnt tell us exactly which car the radar was tracking but with Lidar I can track a single in vehicle in a row of cars. Just put the little red dot on the car and WAM! I've got your speed and how far you are from me. Its amazing, esp. when people dont believe me and I show them on the Lidar-Army MP
Where do you get your facts from? Seriously, post a link to verfiy your claim or stfu. Drunk Driving, NOT SPEEDING is the top factor in the 1.3 million killed and 50 million injured. Want my link? Go to the Department of Transportations website for your state.
@MiClLC well you have said some outrageous and dumb comments about police. While speeding might not be the top factor for fatal accidents, it most certainly plays a role when you got morons out there that think they are on a race track and run into all kinds of things along with other cars because they can't stop in time.
@Txpeaceofficer They're only dumb and outrageous because your a cop and I would expect that kind of response to come from a cop lol. A "moron" speeding down the highway is just as dangerous as some Cop speeding because he thinks hes got the skills to stop a so called "bad guy." If you havent noticed in some states, highway and residential high speed persuites are usually called off after the liscence plate has been taken to avoid accidents caused by speeding :)
@MiClLC Well the police do have the skills because we are required to take high speed/low speed stress driving training classes on a regular basis which is a lot more than the average motorist does (comedy defensive driving courses doesnt count). If people were not dumb enough to do the things they do then the police wouldn't have to chase them. As far as the "pursuits" policy varies from agency to agency.
@Txpeaceofficer True story: About a year or so ago, there was a LEO chasing a "bad guy" in a high speed persuite threw a residential area about 15 mins from my house. This Police Officer was blowing threw red lights trying to catch this guy and the last red light he blew threw, he didnt look both ways, and struck another Police car sending it flying up onto the side walk, and it ended up killing a little boy. Im well aware of Police driving skills bud, and they fail.
@MiClLC So you are going to chastise all police officers? If you really want to get technical you can say if that driver wasn't busy running from the police then they wouldn't have to run lights. I can sit here and tell you about the countless accidents the general public has on a daily basis. Society needs to understand that police officers are human beings too. I understand you, it's always law enforcement's fault never the ones that commit the crimes. Sounds like you got your own agenda.
@Txpeaceofficer Its not ALWAYS law enforcement's fault, but the whole speed enforcement thing is a farce. Speed alone cannot cause accidents, yet I always see the speed traps in the areas where its the safest to speed; ie wide open straight roads that are underposted for some reason, or on a decline. Speed + stupid/drunk driving and tailgating are the actual causes of accidents. Actually, police end up indirectly costing people their lives by ignoring tailgaters and settin up pointless spd traps
@butterflywings2004 Texas Department of Transportation's website has the year 2008 crash statistics available as the latest year. Examine the rural and urban contributing factors for crashes and you will see speed as a top factor besides DWI. The link is below. ftp://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txdot-info/trf/crash_statistics/2008/2008_19.pdf
@Txpeaceofficer And I'll give you an example of this. Say the speed limit is 45 on a rural road with few obstructions (this is common in NJ). You're saying that a semi truck can safely do 45, right? But the maximum safe speed for a corvette is also 45???? You'd think that if the corvette were to be driving 65, attentively, on a straight road with few obstructions, that it's unsafe? It isn't. What about speed traps where the limit is blatantly too low for the road design? Is that about safety?
@sociopathicregret So if the semi truck makes a sudden or unsafe lane change, looses its load or makes some type of wide turn and Mr Corvette is cruising 20 mph over the speed limit, he is going to be able stop in time to avoid a collision?? I don't think so. He is more likely to make some faulty evasive action because he won't have enough time to correct his actions. Sorry but I would rather see speed traps than death traps.
@Txpeaceofficer Well then the problem is the unsafe lane change, or if the corvette driver isn't paying attention then that's the problem. Also keep in mind that a corvette can stop WAYYYY faster than a minivan, let alone an 18 wheeler which has to be taken into account. An 18 wheeler going 50 mph (5 over) isnt likely to get stopped by police for speeding, but has much less time to stop than the vette because of the weight of the vehicle. Btw speed traps are typically NOT set up in unsafe areas.
@sociopathicregret +butterflywings2004, Speed alone can cause accidents. Add in DWI or other traffic violations it increases the chances of causing accidents more likely fatal ones. As an officer myself, I understand everyone hates getting pulled over but enforcing traffic laws is a part of the job. There is never a safe area to speed period. The speed limit signs are there for a reason.
@Txpeaceofficer You're absolutely wrong, and you need to be open to the idea that you could be wrong. This is just purely illogical because speed isn't going to cause an accident unless its what physically causes you to fly off a curve. In that case, maybe, but taking a curve wayyy too fast is just 'stupid driving'. Its like saying 'guns kill people'.
@sociopathicregret I guess I could say that you should be open to the idea of being wrong too but what's the point? We both agree that we disagree. Except that I have investigated hundreds of accidents and seen the facts first hand. Your telling me speed cannot cause an accident? LOL..ok. Using your example, yes speeding can cause your vehicle to do things beyond your control. That's science. Stupid driving = speeding...yes. The "stupid driver" speeds his end result can cause accidents.
The thing is that I have already admitted I was wrong; for some time I saw things pretty much the way you and others do. "The speed limits are there for safety, why on earth would anyone exceed them? It's dangerous" etc. Yes, driving not for the conditions can cause you to lose control of the car. Yes, driving outside your skill limits can do the same. But this is NOT 'speeding'. That's exceeding a number on a sign, which can be flawed. this is where you are confused.
@sociopathicregret I think somewhere along the way you got a speeding ticket or maybe just like to drive above speed limits, I don't know lol. I agree that driving outside your skill or driving not for the conditions of the road causes accidents and is not speeding. Those cause accidents too. You are saying that speeding never causes accidents and I am here to say that it most certainly can and sometimes does.
@Txpeaceofficer No, I'm saying that speeding as in "just exceeding the limit" doesn't cause the accident. Now, both can coincide, and one can both be exceeding the limit and not driving for the conditions. One can also be under the limit and not driving for conditions. But its the not driving for the conditions that is the real issue here. And no, my last speeding ticket was 3 years ago....for driving 80 something mph on a largely empty interstate highway.
@sociopathicregret I think I understand what you are saying. I will go as far and agree that city governments can safely increase speed limits on highways or rural areas. The problem is like you said a lot of people dont drive the speed limit and often drive 15-20 mph over the posted limit. Now if you increase the limits they are going to be driving 15-20 over the new limit. So the speeds are going up and up.....not good.
@Txpeaceofficer Right, and a bit on many wider and less trafficky roads also. I also think that speed limits shouldn't be enforced in the middle of the night, that's pretty ridiculous because you're only endangering yourself at worst. With no cars, there isn't much danger except deer in certain areas. Which is why I often drive slower at night, though when I can put my brights on and see far ahead in a non-wooded area I speed up a bit. As for the limits, again, think about the autobahn system.
@Txpeaceofficer My general argument isnt against safety, its more just that the enforcement focus is wayyyyy misguided and results in a lot of unfair tickets. There's better ways to promote safety while letting people have freedom if they exercise it responsibly. Also I think a lot more people would respect the police if they weren't doing unfair things like they do with speed traps in the middle of the night etc.
@sociopathicregret lastly, the thing about people driving over limits if they are raised really isn't true. A few people may do that, but by in large its been proven that most people drive for the conditions, not the number on the sign (again not always exclusive, but often is). This often results in a lot of tickets because people aren't paying attention to the numbers (which is BETTER in a way because they are paying attention to the road) but is why people wont go 20 over a raised limit.
@Txpeaceofficer Example, lets take a wide main road which is reduced to 25 when it passes some houses in a town. Given how wide the road is, and given that similar roads are posted at 35 or 40, there's no reason for 25. Lets say on similar roads, people typically go 35-40. Barring heavy enforcement, people will go the same 35-40, ignoring the sign. Yet if you raise the limit to 45, people aren't going to start going 55, haha. At least not the vaaaast majority of people.
@sociopathicregret Which is what I think the problem is in the video. The road is way too wide for 25, as 25 is a typical speed limit in a cramped development with narrow roads.
@Txpeaceofficer What you don't understand is that speed itself doesn't cause the accident. At most, its irresponsible use of speed which doesn't necessarily have ANYTHING to do with the speed limit. It does increase the chance for fatality of the accident, but that's not the problem....if that was, reduce all limits to 0 mph. The problem is the cause of the accident itself. Speed should only be a FACTOR in a ticket, if youre tailgating at a high speed = worse fine, but no fine for speed alone.
@sociopathicregret What you don't understand is that speeding can cause accidents. You can call it however you like....factor, contributing factor, role, influence or whatever. The fact remains if the accident involved speeding that is certainly a causation. Lots of driver's are crashing an having accidents with speed limits and you want to reduce it to 0? Wow....
@Txpeaceofficer No it isn't. Because like I explained before, the sign doesn't necessarily reflect the conditions. Sometimes you'd have to be crazy to drive the posted speed limit. Sometimes the limit is way lower than the speed it is safe to drive. Not to mention that another flaw of speed limits is they don't take into account that the safe speed will vary from one operator to another, depending on 1)their skill level, 2)their attentiveness 3) their vision and reaction time and 4)their vehicle
@Txpeaceofficer Btw the 0 mph example was an exaggeration, I'm just saying the 'speed increases the severity of the accident so drive slow" is an empty argument since it only suggests we should slow down more and more and more. Btw, the vast majority of individuals drive at their comfort/skill level, and those who don't are typically reckless and do other citeable things such as tailgating, aggressive lane changing without signaling, etc.
@Txpeaceofficer About the statistics thing, thats just an empty source. If one car was suspected to be moving in excess of the posted limit, its said to be that 'speed was a factor'. It has nothing to do with the cause of the accident at all. By the way, please don't reply to my gf's account.
@sociopathicregret Yea, sorry I read the post to respond to you after I read and responded to hers. The statistics are there. You don't need a radar all the time to tell you if a car is speeding. There is always evidence and or witnesses. We can measure skid marks and use a formula to determine a vehicle's speed. To say speeding never causes accidents is just absurd. It most certainly can.
@Txpeaceofficer Well see, the problem with your argument is that the term is vague. If you mean its a factor in that it makes the accident worse, thats fair. But if you go by that, then the only solution is to set all limits to 0 mph or something stupidly low. It doesn't cause accidents because speeding doesn't mean 'driving unsafe for the conditions'. It means 'exceeding a number posted on a sign' which isn't necessary the absolute arbiter of what is 'safe'. thats what you're missing.
@sociopathicregret It's not vague. The speed limit signs are there for a reason not just because its a number on a sign for no reason. If you set the speed limits to 0 everyone will be speeding like bats out of hell and watch your fatality accidents soar. If you research legal terms like "fail to control speed" you will see speeding comes in many blanket forms of definition. So I say again speeding can cause accidents.
@Txpeaceofficer No, the term 'speed related' is quite vague because it really means that one of the cars was suspected to be speeding, not that speed caused the crash. And no, I'm not saying its always there for no reason, but rather that the limits may 1) sometimes be there for the wrong reasons and be excessive and 2) in many cases are outdated considering modern cards and all their safety features and better braking distances compared to 1950s and 60s cards when the limits were set
@Txpeaceofficer Again, the real definition of 'speeding' is exceeding the posted limit, not 'not driving for the conditions'. This is at least the primary used definition. As this has a specific meaning, using the term for other behaviors just causes confusion. Obviously your statement about reducing limits to 0 is correct, and the same applies for low speed limits already in existence...they are too low, some obey them, but most don't causing uneven traffic flow.
@Txpeaceofficer Limits should be removed in favor of a 'tough drivers license' autobahn style system but raising them would at least help the situation. There are many open straight highways set at 50 and 55 which is stupid, nobody drives 55 because these limits were set back in 1955 or something lol
@jorge531 if people where forced to drive faster they would not be able to eat, text on phones or talk on phones, the autobahn has less accidents each year then any other road in the world and its because you have to truly watch your driving..... good comment ;D
I would like to see someone from the police department to post his or her comments in response to some of the most disagreeable posters who just mindlessly post on and on regardless of what this video is about. And I don't mean by seeing some of them posting their response in Caps.
sn9696 (1 week ago) Spam Marked as spam Pointless worthless cops that do nothing but hand out bullshit tickets all day!!

,respect is earned, not given, if you automatically love the police unquestioningly, you are an ignorant sheep!!
People need to start minding there own business and just drive!! Everytime i try to past a redneck he floors it so i cant get past him!! Grow up people and stop policeing each other!!
Don't u just hate people that say they hate cops? I mean if u have a break in at ur house get mugged or shot who are you going to call...the fire fighters? Every body hates cops until that they when they actually need their assistance. Think about it! They put them selves in jeopardy so that we don't have to. We should be greatful.
my asshole, have you ever been a victim of a crime and requesred police assistance? if you have then you know these donut eaters dont do shit but make a report and put it in a circular file system, meaning you wont get shit unless you have insurance. fuck cops
jjuneau: As a matter a fact I have been a crime victim more than 3 times. Once when my house was broken in and they took all my jewelry (no one was home) The second time I had just given birth and decided not to open the door in the morning when I heard someone knock...They broke in and me just out of the hospital with my baby in his car seat face to face with the teenager that broke in!!! (of course he ran as soon as he saw me thank god) I have needed their assistance several times!!!
Yeah, and what did the cops tell you? I'll make a report and we will file it. Maybe we will find them when they turn themselves in. We are too busy to do anything for you at the moment but don't worry, we will file this report. Is that what they said?
Considering your obviously not capable of doing anything for yourself when faced with a situation, I can understand you being 100% reliant on the cops. However, there are REAL woman who exist in this country who will shoot first and call the cops later. Have them show up just in time to put the home invader ina body bag. A cop isnt going to help you, you have to help yourself.
Speeder on SPEEDERS TV: "I hate cops. I hate em with a passion!" Police video is great for winning your trial in court, by showing all the crimes the cop perped without mandatory emergency lights and siren turned on. File criminal charges or civil counterclaims against the cop, using his own video as evidence. Case dismissed! How to win in traffic court: DealsGapDragon* com
They have this 'work zone' speed limit of 25 mph near where I live, if there are obstacles all around I can understand 30-35, but most of the time there aren't. Most people just go 45, about 5-10 slower than before to account for conditions and additional enforcement, but when will traffic laws make sense? Probably never.

Oh, and laugh out loud at the School Bus speeding in an active school zone, that was priceless.
OrginalDeath50 5 months ago
25 Miles in a school zone that is "active" meaning children are out and about, is perfectly reasonable. It does save lives. Kids can do very silly things like dart out between park cars, and all kinds of things. This allows an "alert driver" to react normally in time to prevent something tragic. Some signs, go as far as to give actual hours one must do the 25 speed limit even if not a single child is present. To people grumbling, just do the 25, it's barely for a mile anyway!

Obviously TVman1981 doesn't know anything about engineering, and how it is excessive speed that contributes to accidents, not going over a limit posted 20 mph too low. If you're sick of this bullshit, visit the national motorists association at motorists (dot) org
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret... Thank you for answering that question youself ..I am not an "engineer" and have no intention to become one .....the segment is called "People Behaving Badly " not how to propertly engineer a street so cars can drive faster. And even if I were a "Engineer" and cited my findings about traffic flow and speed verses distance there would someone to offer a counter claim... So I will leave the "Engineering" to the experts and stick to only what I can see with my two eyes.
TVman1981 1 year ago 5
@TVman1981 Here's the problem: putting the speed limit at 25 is actually contributing to accidents more than the people exceeding the limit. Low speed limits increase speed variance, because a few people try to comply with the law and others go with the flow. You're not an engineer, but you should report both sides of the story. If the law is wrong, its 'the law behaving badly', not 'people behaving badly'. Those statements are backed up by studies and can be found with your own two eyes : )
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret Point is the street is not engineered for 25 mph, its not a small subdivision street. Its engineered for 45 or something.

Get rid of them near high schools imo too.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
In total, we’re talking about 7.5 to 15 billion dollars annually from tickets for government agencies and insurance companies. That’s more money than several states take in from all taxes! Worse still, that total doesn’t even include the money that “traffic schools,” attorneys, radar-detector manufacturers, and scanner producers make.
blotto85 1 year ago
@blotto85 Realistically, there is no connection between receiving an occasional traffic ticket and the likelihood of being in an accident. So, there is no justification for charging a person more for auto insurance because they were convicted for a random traffic violation. The purpose of insurance is to cover unusual risk. The act of exceeding an unreasonably low limit is hardly an “unusual risk.” That means speeding ticket surcharges are pure profit for the insurance industry.
blotto85 1 year ago
@blotto85 If just half of these tickets result in insurance surcharges (typically at least $300 over a period of three years), you can add another 3.75 to 7.5 billion dollars in profit for insurance companies. This is why insurance companies “care” so much traffic “safety” programs and are willing to donate millions of dollars worth of radar and laser guns to the police. For them, it’s simple: more tickets equal more money!
blotto85 1 year ago
@blotto85 No one knows how many traffic tickets are actually issued. Many local units of government deliberately hide this information so they don’t have to split their traffic ticket revenue with the state. Not including parking tickets, we can estimate that somewhere between 25 and 50 million traffic tickets are issued each year. Assuming an average ticket cost of $150.00, the total up front profit from tickets ranges from 3.75 to 7.5 billion dollars.
blotto85 1 year ago
@blotto85 Traffic tickets are a multi-billion industry. They have virtually nothing to do with highway safety, but they have everything to do with money.
When you begin to grasp the full magnitude of the public and private interests that depend on ripping off motorists through traffic tickets, you begin to understand why this unethical system continues to expand every year.
blotto85 1 year ago
@blotto85 yea blotto85 it is true that traffic tickets bring in revenue for cities. That's how our government works along with the economy. The down side for law enforcement is that we are out here trying to do our jobs and enforce traffic safety but it is all over shadowed by the almighty dollar. If you want to avoid surcharges, suspensions and what on your license/insurance, don't break the traffic law.
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer
So wait. Are tickets for public safety? Or are they for generating revenue for cities? Last time I checked the police departments job was to keep us safe, not take our money! I do agree with you on "trying to do our jobs." As a low ranking officer you don't have much say, and you can't change things. If you did stand up spoke out over this corrupt system you would be denied for promotion and most likely fired.
blotto85 1 year ago
@blotto85 tickets are supposed to be for traffic safety, thats why we have traffic law. The flip side of it is that it does create revenue for cities/counties. Often when people get a ticket they immediately assume cops are out trying to make money for the city nothing more, which is not true. As I said, the real issue of enforcing traffic law as part of the job/safety is shadowed by and labeled as "government trying to make money".
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer
Over 93,000 people a day receive a speeding ticket in the USA
That's over 34,000,000 speeding tickets per year.
The average speeding ticket costs $150.00.
34,000,000 x 150.00 = $5,100,000,000 That's over 5.1 BILLION dollars per year in speeding ticket fines alone!
THIS IS CORRUPTION. IF YOU DON'T SEE IT YOUR NOT PAYING ATTENTION
blotto85 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer
CHANGE WILL COME
This is not about money going to fix roads or improve schools, this is 100% pure corruption.
blotto85 1 year ago
@blotto85 Law enforcement has no control on how much your insurance company charges you for your premium. Second, you can always opt to take defensive driving or get deffered adjudication instead of paying the full fine. That will not go on your driving record which will not raise your insurance. When you buy a house you pay taxes to the government (which can be use to fix roads) and you pay school tax (to improve schools). That's economics not corruption. Learn how your taxes work.

Remove as many due process protections for traffic law offenders as is politically possible. This not only further discourages people from contesting their tickets, but it also ensures that those that do will have a much more difficult time defending themselves.
blotto85 1 year ago
@blotto85
Keep the ticket prices below the pain threshold that would compel motorists to aggressively contest traffic citations in court. They know that if fines got too high, motorist would fight heir tickets, and trials eat up all the profit.
blotto85 1 year ago
@blotto85
Maintain a public relations campaign that claims traffic tickets are only given to bad drivers, and that these drivers should pay for the cost of enforcement. This is how you make it appear logical that the police and courts are funded through traffic ticket receipts.

Pass enough laws so that anybody can be stopped at anytime and be given a ticket for a traffic violation. Trivial or concocted traffic law violations are also frequently used as an excuse to stop, detain, and search persons for whom the police have no other legitimate reason to do so.

blotto85 1 year ago
speed limits don't mean anything, they don't make us safer!!!! You're either paying attention when your driving or your not. You could be a highly focuses D1 racer flying through here at 170mph and still be safe, compared to somebody who just got off their second job night shift, very tied, diving 25mph, run straight into a kid crossing the street.
blotto85 1 year ago
@blotto85 If speed limits didn't mean anything they wouldn't be around. Yes I agree that you are either paying attention or you are not but when you add driver inattention + speed or any other factor = deadly results period. The bottom line is noone likes to be "harassed" by law enforcement by being pulled over.
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer Thats not true though, sometimes laws are made for one reason then end up doing something else because our government doesn't work efficiently. Stuff that is meaningless will stay on the books for decades just because of political inertia and such.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer So I'm going to challenge your statement....if I am for MORE enforcement targeting aggressive, inattentive, and tailgating drivers, if Im for MORE police presence, and if Im for greater penalties for such behavior, how exactly am I "anti law enforcement"??? Our society isn't so simple as "If something is pointless it wouldn't exist, therefore because it exists it must be fair and have a point". It just doesnt work that way. Been shown that reasonable limits also REDUCES crashes.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret It just seems you have a huge problem with police enforcing speed limits that you feel are "too low" or out dated. You are saying lets increase some speed limits and hope everyone drives the new speed limit when the reality of it is a lot of drivers do not drive the speed limit to begin with. The cure all of raising speed limits is just going to make the drivers speed above whatever is posted so that isn't really a solution.
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret Oh and when you determine your idea of "reasonable limits" that you expect society to open arm embrace by all means share it. Why not lobby your cause? You will find out people's "reasonable limits" are all over the place. Look at how much scrutiny law enforcement's "reasonable suspicion" comes under.
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer 85th percentile traffic speed rounded up to nearest 5 mph. No speed limit on major highways in middle + left lane; no SL in right lane late at night. No speed limit on any non residential/urban road except during rush hr times. Speed limit increased by 50% during non congested/rush hr times on all other roads (probably only night in many areas). Breaking limits SECONDARY offense, but if obvious carelessness can lead to drastically increased fines as you go up.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
Now before you tell me that everyone is gonna go 90 down someone's neighborhood driveway, remember that the vast majority will continue at the same speed, and almost all the crazy idiots commit other infractions such as improper passing, tailgating, and not signaling.

So basically you get what was intended to be used one way used a very diff way; ie speed traps where they get people on technicalities
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
I don't mean to flood this video with so many comments, but here's another example: There's a road near where I live recently lowered from 50 mph to 35 because a few mcmansions are being built. A SCIENTIFIC traffic study recently confirmed that the limit did not need to be changed; most traffic was traveling 52-54 mph. The road is wide with huge shoulders. Residents wanted 40 but county forced 35. Now the place is gonna be a huge speed trap and there will be more tailgating and accidents.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret Well, I have read all your comments. I agree on some points and disagree with a lot. There are some drivers that obey the limits and there are alot that don't. I will say again the speed limit signs are there for a reason and with good cause. When you have seen the things I have on the job with speed and traffic related problems you might have a different opinion. People just don't pay attemtion to what they are doing while driving.
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer Well I agree with you on the inattentive moronic drivers, there's just a better way to make the roads safe than pulling people over randomly because they're going a certain number. I bet if police were a little more clever and didn't use obvious unmarked cars, they could get three times as many people for tailgating as they do in the speed traps. Oh man one time there was almost a pileup because I braked for an injured animal and these idiots were tailgating the guy behind me
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret Sorry, but some of your arguments are flawed. Everyone behaves when they see a marked unit driving down the road. In fact the new police unmarked "ghost cars" end up catching more violaters than a regular patrol car. Like a lot of anti law enforcement people, I think you have your own agenda towards law enforcement. I hear the excuses daily, its always someone else's fault and when in doubt lets just bash law enforcement.
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer Well I wouldn't go making assumptions like that...police are necessary in any civilized society. So I'm not anti-law enforcement. I'm against abusing the letter of the law, though. The thing is, if you have police conducting traffic enforcement in a FAIR AND HONEST manner, you not only save way more lives, but you gain a lot more respect from the public...it's not bashing, its just that the current system is set up inappropriately. Whats to lose?
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer I mean, whats to lose? I guarantee you that what I suggested would save more lives than speed traps. And true, I guess people behave themselves when police cars are present, though it could be argued that people also slam on the breaks when they see the cars on the median, creating dangerous situations and the possibility of pile ups when there's a lot of tailgating. I'm all for a greater police presence and no mercy on tailgaters/aggressive drivers, but speed traps are bullshit.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret What I meant by having your own agenda towards law enforcement is nothing that I say is obviously going to change your mind or view about speeding tickets. Your mind is made up. I post here to try and share some insight from the inside, being in law enforcement now for 14 years and counting. The unfortunatel reality is society generally looks down on law enforcement.

@MiClLC well you have said some outrageous and dumb comments about police. While speeding might not be the top factor for fatal accidents, it most certainly plays a role when you got morons out there that think they are on a race track and run into all kinds of things along with other cars because they can't stop in time.
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer They're only dumb and outrageous because your a cop and I would expect that kind of response to come from a cop lol. A "moron" speeding down the highway is just as dangerous as some Cop speeding because he thinks hes got the skills to stop a so called "bad guy." If you havent noticed in some states, highway and residential high speed persuites are usually called off after the liscence plate has been taken to avoid accidents caused by speeding :)
MiClLC 1 year ago
@MiClLC Well the police do have the skills because we are required to take high speed/low speed stress driving training classes on a regular basis which is a lot more than the average motorist does (comedy defensive driving courses doesnt count). If people were not dumb enough to do the things they do then the police wouldn't have to chase them. As far as the "pursuits" policy varies from agency to agency.
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago

Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer Its not ALWAYS law enforcement's fault, but the whole speed enforcement thing is a farce. Speed alone cannot cause accidents, yet I always see the speed traps in the areas where its the safest to speed; ie wide open straight roads that are underposted for some reason, or on a decline. Speed + stupid/drunk driving and tailgating are the actual causes of accidents. Actually, police end up indirectly costing people their lives by ignoring tailgaters and settin up pointless spd traps
butterflywings2004 1 year ago
@butterflywings2004 Texas Department of Transportation's website has the year 2008 crash statistics available as the latest year. Examine the rural and urban contributing factors for crashes and you will see speed as a top factor besides DWI. The link is below. ftp://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txdot-info/trf/crash_statistics/2008/2008_19.pdf
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer And I'll give you an example of this. Say the speed limit is 45 on a rural road with few obstructions (this is common in NJ). You're saying that a semi truck can safely do 45, right? But the maximum safe speed for a corvette is also 45???? You'd think that if the corvette were to be driving 65, attentively, on a straight road with few obstructions, that it's unsafe? It isn't. What about speed traps where the limit is blatantly too low for the road design? Is that about safety?
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret So if the semi truck makes a sudden or unsafe lane change, looses its load or makes some type of wide turn and Mr Corvette is cruising 20 mph over the speed limit, he is going to be able stop in time to avoid a collision?? I don't think so. He is more likely to make some faulty evasive action because he won't have enough time to correct his actions. Sorry but I would rather see speed traps than death traps.
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer Well then the problem is the unsafe lane change, or if the corvette driver isn't paying attention then that's the problem. Also keep in mind that a corvette can stop WAYYYY faster than a minivan, let alone an 18 wheeler which has to be taken into account. An 18 wheeler going 50 mph (5 over) isnt likely to get stopped by police for speeding, but has much less time to stop than the vette because of the weight of the vehicle. Btw speed traps are typically NOT set up in unsafe areas.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer that was my gf's account direct comments at this one
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret +butterflywings2004, Speed alone can cause accidents. Add in DWI or other traffic violations it increases the chances of causing accidents more likely fatal ones. As an officer myself, I understand everyone hates getting pulled over but enforcing traffic laws is a part of the job. There is never a safe area to speed period. The speed limit signs are there for a reason.
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer You're absolutely wrong, and you need to be open to the idea that you could be wrong. This is just purely illogical because speed isn't going to cause an accident unless its what physically causes you to fly off a curve. In that case, maybe, but taking a curve wayyy too fast is just 'stupid driving'. Its like saying 'guns kill people'.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret I guess I could say that you should be open to the idea of being wrong too but what's the point? We both agree that we disagree. Except that I have investigated hundreds of accidents and seen the facts first hand. Your telling me speed cannot cause an accident? LOL..ok. Using your example, yes speeding can cause your vehicle to do things beyond your control. That's science. Stupid driving = speeding...yes. The "stupid driver" speeds his end result can cause accidents.
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer C
That's exceeding a number on a sign, which can be flawed. this is where you are confused.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret I think somewhere along the way you got a speeding ticket or maybe just like to drive above speed limits, I don't know lol. I agree that driving outside your skill or driving not for the conditions of the road causes accidents and is not speeding. Those cause accidents too. You are saying that speeding never causes accidents and I am here to say that it most certainly can and sometimes does.
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer No, I'm saying that speeding as in "just exceeding the limit" doesn't cause the accident. Now, both can coincide, and one can both be exceeding the limit and not driving for the conditions. One can also be under the limit and not driving for conditions. But its the not driving for the conditions that is the real issue here. And no, my last speeding ticket was 3 years ago....for driving 80 something mph on a largely empty interstate highway.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret I think I understand what you are saying. I will go as far and agree that city governments can safely increase speed limits on highways or rural areas. The problem is like you said a lot of people dont drive the speed limit and often drive 15-20 mph over the posted limit. Now if you increase the limits they are going to be driving 15-20 over the new limit. So the speeds are going up and up.....not good.
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer Right, and a bit on many wider and less trafficky roads also. I also think that speed limits shouldn't be enforced in the middle of the night, that's pretty ridiculous because you're only endangering yourself at worst. With no cars, there isn't much danger except deer in certain areas. Which is why I often drive slower at night, though when I can put my brights on and see far ahead in a non-wooded area I speed up a bit. As for the limits, again, think about the autobahn system.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer My general argument isnt against safety, its more just that the enforcement focus is wayyyyy misguided and results in a lot of unfair tickets. There's better ways to promote safety while letting people have freedom if they exercise it responsibly. Also I think a lot more people would respect the police if they weren't doing unfair things like they do with speed traps in the middle of the night etc.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret lastly, the thing about people driving over limits if they are raised really isn't true. A few people may do that, but by in large its been proven that most people drive for the conditions, not the number on the sign (again not always exclusive, but often is). This often results in a lot of tickets because people aren't paying attention to the numbers (which is BETTER in a way because they are paying attention to the road) but is why people wont go 20 over a raised limit.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer Example, lets take a wide main road which is reduced to 25 when it passes some houses in a town. Given how wide the road is, and given that similar roads are posted at 35 or 40, there's no reason for 25. Lets say on similar roads, people typically go 35-40. Barring heavy enforcement, people will go the same 35-40, ignoring the sign. Yet if you raise the limit to 45, people aren't going to start going 55, haha. At least not the vaaaast majority of people.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret Which is what I think the problem is in the video. The road is way too wide for 25, as 25 is a typical speed limit in a cramped development with narrow roads.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer What you don't understand is that speed itself doesn't cause the accident. At most, its irresponsible use of speed which doesn't necessarily have ANYTHING to do with the speed limit. It does increase the chance for fatality of the accident, but that's not the problem....if that was, reduce all limits to 0 mph. The problem is the cause of the accident itself. Speed should only be a FACTOR in a ticket, if youre tailgating at a high speed = worse fine, but no fine for speed alone.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret What you don't understand is that speeding can cause accidents. You can call it however you like....factor, contributing factor, role, influence or whatever. The fact remains if the accident involved speeding that is certainly a causation. Lots of driver's are crashing an having accidents with speed limits and you want to reduce it to 0? Wow....
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer No it isn't. Because like I explained before, the sign doesn't necessarily reflect the conditions. Sometimes you'd have to be crazy to drive the posted speed limit. Sometimes the limit is way lower than the speed it is safe to drive. Not to mention that another flaw of speed limits is they don't take into account that the safe speed will vary from one operator to another, depending on 1)their skill level, 2)their attentiveness 3) their vision and reaction time and 4)their vehicle
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer Btw the 0 mph example was an exaggeration, I'm just saying the 'speed increases the severity of the accident so drive slow" is an empty argument since it only suggests we should slow down more and more and more. Btw, the vast majority of individuals drive at their comfort/skill level, and those who don't are typically reckless and do other citeable things such as tailgating, aggressive lane changing without signaling, etc.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer About the statistics thing, thats just an empty source. If one car was suspected to be moving in excess of the posted limit, its said to be that 'speed was a factor'. It has nothing to do with the cause of the accident at all. By the way, please don't reply to my gf's account.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret Yea, sorry I read the post to respond to you after I read and responded to hers. The statistics are there. You don't need a radar all the time to tell you if a car is speeding. There is always evidence and or witnesses. We can measure skid marks and use a formula to determine a vehicle's speed. To say speeding never causes accidents is just absurd. It most certainly can.
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer Well see, the problem with your argument is that the term is vague. If you mean its a factor in that it makes the accident worse, thats fair. But if you go by that, then the only solution is to set all limits to 0 mph or something stupidly low. It doesn't cause accidents because speeding doesn't mean 'driving unsafe for the conditions'. It means 'exceeding a number posted on a sign' which isn't necessary the absolute arbiter of what is 'safe'. thats what you're missing.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@sociopathicregret It's not vague. The speed limit signs are there for a reason not just because its a number on a sign for no reason. If you set the speed limits to 0 everyone will be speeding like bats out of hell and watch your fatality accidents soar. If you research legal terms like "fail to control speed" you will see speeding comes in many blanket forms of definition. So I say again speeding can cause accidents.
Txpeaceofficer 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer No, the term 'speed related' is quite vague because it really means that one of the cars was suspected to be speeding, not that speed caused the crash. And no, I'm not saying its always there for no reason, but rather that the limits may 1) sometimes be there for the wrong reasons and be excessive and 2) in many cases are outdated considering modern cards and all their safety features and better braking distances compared to 1950s and 60s cards when the limits were set
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer Again, the real definition of 'speeding' is exceeding the posted limit, not 'not driving for the conditions'. This is at least the primary used definition. As this has a specific meaning, using the term for other behaviors just causes confusion. Obviously your statement about reducing limits to 0 is correct, and the same applies for low speed limits already in existence...they are too low, some obey them, but most don't causing uneven traffic flow.
sociopathicregret 1 year ago
@Txpeaceofficer Limits should be removed in favor of a 'tough drivers license' autobahn style system but raising them would at least help the situation. There are many open straight highways set at 50 and 55 which is stupid, nobody drives 55 because these limits were set back in 1955 or something lol

@jorge531 if people where forced to drive faster they would not be able to eat, text on phones or talk on phones, the autobahn has less accidents each year then any other road in the world and its because you have to truly watch your driving..... good comment ;D

25 is what you do in neighborhoods, and when it's clear, often you still do more than this....
they put certain 2-4 lane roads at 25 when its absurd for the conditions, then pop everyone who just goes on through without slowing down

Is that what they said?
jjuneau 3 years ago
Considering your obviously not capable of doing anything for yourself when faced with a situation, I can understand you being 100% reliant on the cops. However, there are REAL woman who exist in this country who will shoot first and call the cops later. Have them show up just in time to put the home invader ina body bag. A cop isnt going to help you, you have to help yourself.
