i would like to teach my five year old friesian gelding to spanish walk. my concern is if he will become a "striker", meaning he will start banging his front feet anywhere, because i have taught him this, which the barn owner would not be happy about. have you heard any comments about this??
@kristenmarie715 Hi There. Although this is the most common misconception with respect to teaching the Spanish Walk, I have never found it to be a valid concern. HOWEVER! like anything else to do with horses, if a horse is allowed to get away with any irritating, attention seeking behavior, then people aren't happy. Regardless of what you train, the responsibility is there to train it properly :o)
Hi There! Without seeing what stage you're at in the Spanish Walk I can't provide you with clear direction...it sounds like you are just looking to transfer the cue from the ground to the saddle. If having someone on the ground helps then that can be effective. Otherwise, just walk, then cue the front leg, then walk, then cue the other leg....the forward movement comes with a little bit of time depending upon which training method you use. Let me know if this helps!
Awesome. I've been training my horse in about 3 months just to get the Spanish Walk, but I can't make her walk. I always start at ground, I want it to be perfect from ground before I try to sit up. She lift her legs perfect, but she just won't walk. Any tips? By the way, I know my english sucks..!
