  • the do look a bit nerdy but I liked there muzik

  • I loved this song when it was first around in 1979 but hadn't heard it for something like 30 years! I've been searching for it for ages but kept thinking the band was "New Music" so I could never find it. I was so happy to finally find it, what a great song!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Right on great track!!

  • We're on Facebook "Checkpoint Charlie - Ràdio Ciutat de Badalona

  • Checkpoint Charlie a Radio Programme from Barcelona is playing a Special chapter on New Wave Musik tonite, check this out!

  • New Musik define the term 'underrated' ... so good to hear this again....

  • DAVID WILDER LOVES NEW MUSIK! !!! ONE OF MY MOST-PLAYED BANDS EVER!!! BIG SHOUT OUT TO THIS `SECRET CLUB` OF OTHERS WHO GET IT TOO! X

  • brilliant band, one of those groups whose music stands the test of time, cant believe they only charted 27 weeks

  • How fucking awesome were these fellas. Contstantly playing in the car when on business. Brilliant.

  • GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Absolutely LOVED this when it came out!!!

    ONE WAY!!!!

  • Absolutely LOVED this when it came out!!!

  • If we were "Running in Straight Lines"... the World would be a better place!

  • agreed. great band

  • i found out this only got to roundabout 53 in the charts it might have done bettr cos like this song.

  • Tony Mansfield- Please reform this band and give us some new music from New Musik. Maybe this time the music world will be ready for you.

  • Late seventies top of the pops audiences were a pretty dowdy bunch, unlike the early seventies. They clearly realised this when they glitzed things up in the early eighties.

  • Great band!

  • It feels so good to live in the past sometimes. I had the 3 albums back in 70+/80s. I did not know what they looked like until YouTube. Thanks for sharing. So many good memories about this awesome group and music in general at that time. It was the very beginning of the new wave.

  • Can anyone tell me the make of Guitar the singer has?

  • @j4wn IBANEZ (could be Artist or Musician) Body style similar to Artist but constructed

(neck through body) similar to Musician.

  • @lpbgtr Thanks, I looked at google images, it looks like The Musician Model. Strange Guitar, it seems to have so many selector switches even though it is just 2 pick ups. Also either the singer is quite a small guy as the Guitar looks massive on him.

  • @j4wn He actually looks like a friend of mine (from Ottawa) LOL! The audience looks so disinterested (maybe stoned) LOL!

  • the best eletronic band!!!!

  • Has to be said, the kids milling around in front of the stage look as though they can't wait for this to be over!

  • Its a travesty and shameful this band didnt go farther.

In my opinion its because they didnt look like pops stars ie Duran, Spandau etc ...though that shouldnt have gone against them

    brilliant albums

  • best band of the 80;s with china crisis

  • i think i will sacrifice my ipod, ps3 , television, internet , whatever i need to sacrifice to born in the 70 or 80!

  • wow...a lost one. loved this song

  • Great music, great lyrics! Love this song!

  • Perfect pop music, absolutely perfect.

  • wow!

  • I could not agree more that New Musik was an unterrated band - They gives me many great memories of the entry of the 80'ties

  • bit crap really.

  • @Peteroranje You weren't there obviously......

  • @Peteroranje knob !!!!

  • From A To B - their first album - truly a masterpiece - I still play it often, after 30 years

  • They played this on some alternative stations, stateside. For one - WPIX, New York when they had the "PIX Penthouse party" spring summer 1979. I've said it before and I'll say it again - to be in your early 20's and be in New York at that time was magical!

  • @ChasBeauregarde Not sure if the album was out in 1979!

  • NEW WAVE?

  • Great band, great album

  • not the coolest bunch of guys ever, but they made some great singles

  • I bought the album "From A to B" when it came out, brilliant! It had the othe singles on; Sanctuary, This World Of Water and Living By Numbers, the rest of the tracks were pretty decent also.

  • brilliant, such an underated band way ahead of there time...

  • This is the best band ever. I was young in the right time.

  • I don't remember this!!

  • Loves does guyzzzzzzzzz good memories !!!!!!!!!!

  • Les meilleurs, the best ever and I still have the album !!!! 33 WOW !

  • You're right, the crowd looks like they don't know what's going on. I've got your message wrong, sorry. But there's no need to pick up a fight and talk about how you were there when we were not. I discovered this song when I was much younger than you.

  • dead fish cant swim home xx

  • @metoyou365 I KNOW you were talking about the CROWD

  • @metoyou365 The only sheep here is you. This song is brilliant and timeless.

  • One of the most underrated bands ever. I think they were absolutely brilliant.

  • @ZLUGGO very true i was in my early teens thought they where brill then now just as good

  • Absolutely.

  • @ZLUGGO Tony Mansfield became an amazing producer...another Producer that has put out excellent music from this era is Rupert Hine. Check out his Thinkman band as well as his production on albums for Saga and The Fixx!!

  • @FranzifromMulberrys

    Thank you.

Yes, I remember Rupert. "Set Up" is a brilliant tune.

  • Brilliant, timeless, so many memories.......end of the 70's!!!!

  • classic from the kings of electro pop

  • I'm getting into this one! This played often at the club in Quebec City...great memories of this song! Thanks!

  • LOL I love this song, but you're certainly right !!! And you can definetely notice this is 100% playback. So either it was its first public performance and they were new to the crowd or the playback wasa totally turn off for them !!! Anywa I LOVE IT!!!

  • you may be a muppet buddy. But this top band is not. This is The Great New Musik.Respect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • kmstooting your full of shite how the fuck can you be 26 and .... oh never mind you sad cunt !

  • Your'e welcome!

  • Remember this well, Our first TOTP. Nervous as hell, but we'd has a couple of beers.

  • You are timeless and underated.

  • Thanks mate

  • This was a huge hit in Quebec if you can believe it.

HUGE hit at the local roller disco rink...

  • Anyone know the thing about They Might Be Giants and New Musik? I overheard bits of the stiory and now they sound almost the same. Comments please....

  • @coombsie holy cow no way! apart from the nasal vocals no way

  • I love this. does that make me old? These guys could go on the road and still find themselves with a large fanbase. REFORM PLEASE TONY!!!!!

  • I have this on vinyl, lol, great song!

  • ¡Gran tema de New Musik!

    Great track from New Musik!

  • Let's just accept this for what it was.Good old Happy New wave. Why analize it? Just dance and enjoy.Miss those days. S.

  • so timely. excellent lyrics. without question puts a little pep in your step. Get your f------ ass out of bed and proceed with the day and over come any and all obstacles before you.

  • Loved this song when I was a kid. Good to hear it again.

  • Superb - one of my fave albums from that time. Can't think why they aren't played much more .....

  • JTHOW I agree! My opinion; Studio technology at that time was analogue & Trevor's Yes 90125 effort ushered in the "Big Sound" along with the emergence of digital. Radio programmers are cornered into CHR/AC/Rhythmic/Active Rock/Country. There isn't much of a market in their eyes for true ALT & in the few markets where it exists songs like these sound light/airy thus throwing off the block. Lastly, samplers/beatboxes/hip-hop/dance/marketing prevail. Music is a commodity & no longer an art form.

  • Tony Mansfield! Where he is now? He

Wrote some great quirky pop tunes! Would like to think he followed into pop production in the 80's like Trevor Horn

  • That's exactly what he did, as a matter of fact; he produced a-ha, Naked Eyes, Captain Sensible, Mari Wilson, and After the Fire.

  • 1979/80 top sound new musik should be re released

  • Bangin' (whatever that means) .... fantastic production - still sounds punchy and powerful - one day this band's influence will be recognised ....til then , let's just make it our little secret :)

  • make you so right dude great band were lucky we found them.

  • To quote an old Philip's advert

    'Simply years ahead'

  • Fab track from a great time in Pop history

  • A song about coke?? Now thats new on me!

    Brilliant song.. Brilliant band!!!

  • Wow one of the early original "New Wave" songs up there with "M's" Pop Music.I had the 7" EP.Good dance tune.

  • poptastic

  • serious question, is this song about coke?

  • I'm sorry Poehr, it's Jerry Springer waving and he appears to have something on his stool as he cannot sit still

  • If somebody doesn't shoot that clown on the keyboards. Who does he keep waving to? "Hello mum! Look, I'm on day release!"

  • That's Nick Straker. Look for Nick Straker band... A walk in the Park

  • You're wrong, MartiW. I've been doing some research. It's a person called Clive Gates, and he's not waving to his mum on this apparently, he's waving to his parole officer.

  • I stand corrected

  • I don't blame him for waving. He probably knew they would only have a brief time in the limelight and wanted to make the most of it. He adds something to the performance and is probably trying to make up for the bass player's total lack of charisma.

  • That's funny!!

  • cool.. great songs from New Musik.. great 80's..

  • so this is where the young knives got there look from!! lol

  • Neat and ingenious pop, but lack of charisma 'live'... Love the look of the bird in the audience straight into camera at 1:22 !

She was waiting for Barry manilow to show...

  • Fuck I used to have the ten inch vinyl of this Ep, good times!

  • Well, in regard of this...Myself I did too had it!!! Unfortunately I lost it in a house moving. I thought I would never hear it again in my entire life!!!

  • I bought this and every other single NM put out. Why did they never catch on? Image? Maybe, but they made great songs.

  • there's no reason for New Musik to not be a household name - - everyone's stealing their sound! Tony Mansfield's the MAN.

  • this is such a fun song,i love it, another favorite of mine, thanks for the upload

  • One of my all time favorite bands. Tony rules!

  • Nice musik! ahah

  • CHECK OUT THE "WARP" ALBUM

  • wow, thanks for this! loved this band ever since--way back when everything was easy-used to listen back to back with "Buggles"

  • Nothing to prove, not acting"tough",not pretending to be something they're not, just making great tunes.Refreshing, isn't it?

  • Who is the drummer?

  • Thank you so much for posting this song. As a kid, I would throw on the headphones and listen, over and over, all night.

It was one of those songs for me...

  • I had heard a few years ago Tony Mansfield would have a big come back, what happened with that ?

I was always very partial to Hibbert' great Bass lines.

    New Musik forever....

  • Ah, New Musik, man they were quite a few years ahead of their time I thought. IIRC from A to B came out in 1979. Punk was still on and the New Romantics didn't really kick in till 1981-82.

In any case From A to B has been the only album I had all those years that I could listen to over & over gain and NEVER get bored with it.

I chased the CD for 7 (SEVEN) years, and then finally it was printed in Canada somewhere....

  • Straight Lines; Straight Lines

    Straight Lines; Straight Lines

    Straight Lines; Straight Lines

    Straight Lines; Straight Lines

  • Espectacular... simplesmente, um dos melhores.

  • I'm slowly converting my friends to New Musik, I think they're so underrated.

    Cheers for posting!

  • Just admit it: their image was not very well cared... but the musik was great.

  • Their image is well documented in the CD inlay. No, it wasn't strong, I agree, but it's shame; if they could have only progressed like OMD, who knows where they would've ended up.

  • Thank you for posting this video, my friend.

It's a good song - it actually failed to reach the top 40 in the UK, only getting to #53 in October 1979. (In those days TOTP sometimes featured songs outside the top 40).

"Straight Lines" deserved to be a bigger hit.

  • Brill.

  • This is from Top of the Pops on Thursday 18th October 1979, which was presented by Dave Lee Travis. Buggles were number one that week in the UK.

  • where can i get a to b i been trying for years

  • A great new wave song that has been pretty much forgotten (until youtube). WPIX-FM here in N.Y. used to play

    this all the time

  • Great sound from A to B !

  • you can buy their compilation on Amazon

  • where is the video of 'see how they run' youtube?

  • now every time i hear this song i think of this

out of sync video with the lame audience that

just stands there looking into the camera :/

  • brilliant. please someone find sanctary.

  • I second that - Sanctuary was a fantastic song but cannot find it anywhere on the net (Looking for Sanctuary i guess <G>)

  • From A to B is my favourite album of all time - i'm not quite sure why but i just never tire of hearing it

  • I like Warp, is very Creative and alienated, The lyrics are weird and the sound is just great.

  • my mate loaned me this album.I liked them a lot ,especially world of water.Very hard to get hold of or download now,Ive had no luck anyway.Thanks.

  • The singer is somewhat short on charisma, but the song is good. Pop.

  • Maybe that´s why Tony Mansfield went on producing instead of leading a band a few years later.

    Anyway i dig their work.

  • this sounds more summer 1981 than 1979 so it shows techniques were progressing fast!!

  • fantastik

    more please

  • Dont know if there is a vid of sanctuary, but I remember this on TOTP as the lead singer of the band that was on before Musik had an identical suit on.. what a bummer

  • Has this been overdubbed?

  • couldn't agree more. What a blast from the past! Cool post. Has anyone out there got Sanctuary - their best, IMO.

  • One of the most UNDERRATED New Wave bands ever!!!!
