  • :') lovely...

  • Ha! That was cool!

  • Today it´s 10 years since we visited Abbey Road.

It was a great day :-)

    Time for a new trip...?

  • Sweet !!!

  • Great cover , how did you get the opportunity to record in the Abbey Road Studios?

  • Simply beautiful.

  • I must confess: This video is the *only* reason I emailed Abbey Road about my project's booking for next year. Surprisingly enough, it's within budget, so guess who gets to 90% for sure go to London to record an album at Abbey Road?

    This guy, that's who! :-D

  • @jrhager84

Thank you!!!. The man you really should thank is Mike Phillips, Cary, NC

He was the one who arranged the trip back in january 2001.

Good luck going to Abbey Road and make sure we all can hear the final results here at Youtube,

  • @studerj37

We're not gonna be going there until at least end of Jan next year, but I'll definitely be sure to link ya to the vids and whatnot... Thanks!

  • @jrhager84 dude!!!!that is so cool man, i wish i could make a trip to england and visit abbey road studios. i here its for sale?

  • great!!

  • Studerj could you get me into abbey road studio I know how to play Let it be. On piano. I am 13 and that would be my only dream to get my family out of this finicial crisis. Please reply or send me PM saying if you can.

  • @Ninjajohnny19 man im 15 and wish i could afford it too man. are you in US, the economy sucks!! What i'd do to have a band yet along a chance to record in abbey road

  • @ritcheyrocker Yes, I'm in the US. And since I posted this I've learned most of the Beatles songs on piano!

  • sounds great

  • Like the video! I was outside taking pictures and at the crosswalk this past August. Would love to have an opportunity to go through the place and even a chance to do some work there. I like your version of Blackbird as well.

  • I had a dream of this place and I've never seen it. We were playing there, there was another group before us (in the dream) so we had to wait with our equipment and we also used some stuff from the group before us after they were done because we really enjoyed what kind of sounds the instuments made. Haha. But was just a dream.

Viewing the stairs and the room brought back the dream.

    Thanks for sharing.

    I love that song.

  • pretty cool, but ultimately a pointless ego trip in my opinion, not to mention a vanity project...why not do your own music?

  • @peacemonger1967

What would you record if you happened to be in Abbey road studio?

Of course it was an egotrip. Wasn´t meant to be anything else.

I loved it - it was one of the greatest moments of my life.

Other would chose to sit in a Ferrari, take a ride with a Flying Fortress, pararachute tandem etc.

    I´ll return that:

Why don´t YOU do your own music....?

You just have other peoples music on your youtube account

  • @peacemonger1967 I hope I remember to ask peacemongers advice on how to spend my money when I have some.

  • My son likes your version over the beatles.. he is 3½.. kids never lie.

    Denmark

  • Excellent rendition. Wish I was there with you.

    Frank

  • you made that version your own. that was coo. thanks for sharing.

  • Wow! I can only imagine how magical it must have been to be inside Studio 2, let alone RECORD there! Congrats on the recording too, it sounds wonderful!

  • that was awesome!!! and it was soo cool that you got to record at abbey road

  • How much did it cost to hire the studio?

  • At that point it was aprox 3000 US pr day.

We were some people splitting the cost.

If you contact Abbey Road booking, they´ll let you know todays price

  • Great song The Beatles whis studio at Abbey Road ! Thanks for sharing .

  • EN NORDMANN I STUDIO 2!?? :O

    Heldiggris!

  • Hi, can i ask, how did you manage to get to play there?

    Many thanks, Tris

  • Booking time, maybe? Actually, this big studios are starting to make "plans" for people on a budget, that can't afford the full studio price and stuff.

  • I love it ..... Muy Bien :-)

  • Wow. What an awesome experence. Sounds wonderfull!

  • wait why at the beginning of teh video he was like "was it a dream or did it realy happen"

    ???

  • Sort of sad huh seems like a milliom years ago.( sniff cry}

  • I managed to get 3 days work experience here

  • You lucky bastard! I've been trying to get a place here for ages :'-(

  • HOW MAY I ASK??

  • My Uncle has worked with Paul Mccartney in the past and has visited Abbey Road studios numerous times. This was quite a little while ago though.

  • ur very lucky! does he still know paul?

  • Yea couldnt beleive my luck. He does speak to him but not very often. Theyve produced music together and my Uncle has interviewed him a few times. But I dont see my Uncle very often.

  • wow, how old are u??

i would love to meet paul. he has inspired me so much.

  • Im 23, but was about 15 or 16 when I had the work ex.

  • very well done re-done - guitars and vocals ala sir paul. thanks!

  • Si, senor

  • Congratulations!

A dream come true! Lovely take- sounds like the magic dripped in

  • beautiful! Great guitar - you gave Blackbird a second life. Thanks for the tour also.

  • nicely done!

  • Stud

  • Enjoyed this very much.

Excellent cover and a look into a special place. Thank you!

  • Cool.

  • nice!!

  • great sound and voice

  • you did it. congratulations.

  • very very very good!!!!!!!111

  • I love them!

  • Great Job !!! well done, Awesome Cover plus in a great studio too.

  • Nice job. Great version. Sound is pretty smailar. You are a good musican. I like this clip. I'm a beatl'e fan and my dad too. Best wishes from Poland. Sorry for my poor english :) Beatles and Abbey Road Studio Rulez

  • were you using condenser mics that Paul used?? man, this just sounds soo good.

  • Beautiful! Congrats bro.

  • Very good cover. You got the McCartney sound. And that possibly also thanx to the studios. The video is also an homage to the famous studios, thanx for sharing. I had the privilege to visit the studios for a special event (the preview of a theatrical musical).

  • Hahaha! Slå den! blir vanskelig å slå den, skal inrømme det : ) Det må være et minne for livet.

  • Beautiful.

  • I was so happy to stumble upon this one...you have an amazing talent...thanks for showing us the studio as well....almost made me cry thinking how much I miss the Beatles...great job!

  • Dude you are the KING! Cherish this 4ever. I envy you.

  • how much did you pay for this????????

  • We were some people splitting the costs, so it was affordable.

One day in Abbey Road studio 2 was aprox $3000 eight years ago.

  • so that's £1500? wow, they were letting students record for free last summer..

  • Last summer. how the hell did i miss that :'(

  • When Oasis recorded their latest album there I think they were paying £20k/day, but they probably rented out the whole thing.

  • £ 20.000 sounds too much. I think the studiorate is aprox. £3.000-4.000 pr.day.

  • Jens:O

  • Wonderful performance. Congratulations !!!! You came into very depth of the song.

  • I pinch myself everyday, wondering if it was a dream. I worked in that very studio in the spring of 1982. It truly is hallowed ground...

  • Wow this is the dream of all the beatles lovers a you did it congratulations

  • you should pinch yourself not many people live their dreams

  • you have a decent voice but somehow i like ure version :D

  • u should be proud of yourself

  • Very, very, very good, I dont speak english a lot, but it is a wonderful video, that shows how a dream can be a reallity, thanks for shared. Best Regards from México.

  • Well done matey! A dream come true and superbly executed!

  • excellent, dude!

  • Brilliant mate!

  • Thank you!

  • Very good

  • amazing dude, live on, and live hard!

  • Black bird is my favourite. I gave it a go also. I love this somg and I love Paul.

  • Wow, your guitar sounds almost the same as McCartney guitar, but near at the end you a bit mistaken, but that's fine cover :)

  • I would not call it a mistake, because I did the end a bit like Paul´s Wings over America version.

    Anyway- thanks for your comment!

  • Oh, I don't know you played wings version, I apologize and you really really lucky to be in abbey road studios, the most famous studio in the world!

  • Brilliant!

  • you did very well. An excellent version!

  • I too made the Zebra crossing. Well done my friend!

  • you nailed it - I thought I played it the way it should be done ( in different positions plus I'm left handed ) , but yours is better,

    nice going !

  • THE BIG SATISFACTION!

  • At a few times you sound just like Paul...Im learning Blackbird right now and I am really into guitar and I can say this is really good!

  • You have to be so good to not embarrass in that situation.

  • When it was my turn and I got placed in front of the mics and with the "cans" on, I suddenly felt: What am I doing...?

It really took some minutes to calm down. After Blackbird, I did I will and that was really OK!

  • Sorry for finding this so late. I have a feeling even big time musicians when first recording here are a bit overcome. Were any of the control room guys old timers from back in the day with stories to pass on?

  • Hello Studger,

I actually cracked a little tear for this. How moving it must have been to be able to do this. And what a great tribute. Even if it took three takes your performance is stunning and Paul would be very impressed. I guess the pilgrims at Mecca must feel this way EH?

    Great Job.

  • It was a surreal moment. Jens didn't realize how much if affected the rest of us. To watch him achieve a dream was incredible. To have full run of Abbey Road for a day....priceless.

    mike's wife

  • Thanks!!!! It was surreal. At one point I felt that it trying to repeat something impossible. Man, I was nervous.... And I always felt I could have done the song better...( I know that's my problem) But It was a very nice dream. I would like to dream it again. Say hello to Mike and John and his family. from me. best regards Jens (on vacation in Egypt)
  • Great thing you did buddy.

  • Thank you!

  • why?

  • ....why not..?

    when you have the oportunity....

  • Living the dream.....all I did was walk across the zebra crossing.......

  • Next time...It'll be your turn...who knows..

For years,I had been talking about going to London...just to walk across the "Zebra" - and luckily I ended up playing in the studio on my first trip....

  • Great singing voice, great guitar-playing, and I love that sort of clicking voice(you keeping the beat with your foot?) which you can hear in the original version as well =)

I don't think I'll ever find a version that's better than the original, but this is a GREAT version! Good job, keep it up! =)

  • happy birthday macca

    your da man

  • wow cool check out my cover... also, how did you get the chance to play at abbey road i would love to do that so much.. the piano in the background..is that the same one paul played..is the one from the 60's?

  • boring...?

What would you do if you've had the chance?

Bring in everthing but the kitchensink?

and where is your cover version....?

  • Hmmm...Yeah. Revolution #9 certainly isn't one of those 'hum while you work' tunes, but it was quite powerful...the lads were just branching out and pushing us in new directions. Some bits of r#9 really stick in my mind...the 'serviceable villain' bit for some reason (could be Olivier reciting Shakespeare?), and the 'take this brother - may it serve you well' (I use that one on my brother on occasions)...No one's covered it to my knowledge...hard to believe. Anyone out there got any info?

  • Great video! Now I have to train my guitar skills a bit more!

  • hi tove

don't get me wrong. I haven't heard any covers that are better than the originals, but there are some that are very very good nonetheless. By the way did you realise that it's 40 years today (11 June) since Blackbird was recorded???

  • 40 years ago today...

That´s a long time....but the song is still a classic.

Glad I had the chance to perform it at Abbey Road.

It was one of the greatest moments of my life...

  • Hi. The best covers don't necessarily try to copy...What would be the point? An original song can provide a platform for other artists to interpret and pay homage...This version was a nice copy of the original.

  • The best cover of Blackbird(I´ve heard ) is Sarah Vaughan

singing with the a man sawing through a log as the rythm.

  • Nice! You lucky man recording in 2 as well. :)

  • Great Job. 5 stars

  • great job, friend.

  • Wow. Nice job.

  • Awesome. Bang up job old man. Sometimes freedom= a few notes and a guitar!

  • This is a dream !! Great !

  • Fantastic! Singing in a foreign language, in Abbey Rd. How cool are you?.. You played really well, and given the place and time I'm sure you wouldn't have made the most minor of slip ups. Well done, you lucky ( insert English word for git(in the nicest possible way)). LOL

  • Thank God you're at least fingering the song correctly, unlike most of these other people here on YouTube!

  • Nice job. It must have been an awesome feeling to be recording at Abby Road Studios!!!! So much musical history was created there!

  • Nice recording. I like how you did the Abbey Road picture at the end too. I've always been a major Zepp fan, but The Beatles are really starting to overtake them in my listening priorty. Peace on Earth :)

  • what a great performance of you! how much did the day cost? and why is it so expensive ;)

  • Maybe I do someday... who knows...

But I really enjoyed doing this as a tribute to one of my favourite songs/artist.

    wasn't that bad was it..?

  • Really nice.. I'm a big Beatles/McCartney fan and I really think you did a good job, well done!

  • great performance, it must feel great to do justice to such a great song in the best way you possibly could. im jeaaaalous tho! :)

  • Thanks!

I was so nervous...took me three attempts to make it right. The mix you'll hear is a composite of three takes....

    I have performed it better...But it's OK.

  • why didnt you track everything? thought itd be more intimate doing both at teh same time?

  • hey guyys this video is amazing isnt it?? please check out me doin blackbird and other beatles songs!!!

  • Wow that's great...good job. I went to an auction in 2006 in studio one and afterwards someone let me in studio 2. I'll never forget the magical feeling I got when I walked into both studios especially studio2...the mecca!

  • Yes !! I was at a classical recording in studio 1 once....I went off to wander around and was able to go into a deserted studio 2...un-decorated since the 60's I think. It was a surreal experience, to be alone where so many great recordings have been made.

  • Excellent performance....you lived the dream man.

  • how much coast?!

  • I don't know....

In 2001 it was aprox 3-4000/day but we were some people splitting the costs. And Then hotel and planetickets...

  • Lucky Man - Liked the performance. Live the dream. Well done.

  • wow i really liked it

  • You have to pay for the privilege! Anyone can book time in the studio. The cost is extremely high, though. We've been waiting for the exchange rate between the US and the UK to improve to do another day or two there, but things are going in the other direction of late.

  • Hi Michael

    I wouldn't mind another trip.

Can't really express how greatful I am for last time.

I will never forget the magic moment in January 2001.

(Michael arranged the trip to Abbey Road)

    Greetings from Sortland,Norway

    Jens

  • Tell me who I have to kill to hang out at Abbey Road studios, it is so done!

  • You lucky dog! I would give anything to record a song at Abbey Road!Beatles forever!

  • amazing

  • Wow...you've lived one of my dreams. Very nice playing....all done at the centre of the recording universe. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

  • love it - great job

  • Thanks!!

  • Good caver )

  • that was nice...

  • wow great video. I love this song. Very well done. thanks for posting.

  • fuckin great man, can I jam with u sometime?

    vincent

  • Acoustically abbey road has not changed much. Great guitar playing.

  • The studio itself is more or less unchanged since the 60'ies.

There was a Neumann stereo mic to pick up the room and the two u47/48 to record the voice/guitar

  • im a fan of the studer a800 at 30 ips no noise reduction with +9

  • Great guitar playing. What did it feel like being in that room and control booth?

  • how is he such a good singer? i dont understand

  • must be a very interesting/amazing feeling being in that room where all that great music was played, yours included =-). nice job!

  • Great to see, brought back fond memories.

My daughter works for EMI in London and organised a tour of the studio for me when I visited her last Christmas.

Had a tinkle on the Steinway

  • that was very good.

  • thank you :-)

  • Do you play the strums with the back of your index finger, or the back of your third?

I learnt it with the third finger, then watched a video of Paul playing it, and he favours the index all the time, I've now learnt it with the index, but sometimes I swap back.

  • haha i think it doesn't matter. as long as the beautiful song can be played (:

  • In 2001, the studio was $3000US per day. Anyone can record there, if you can afford it. The exchange rate between the US and the UK is so bad right now that it is EXTREMELY expensive for Americans to record there. It was a magical day! (I'm the guy in the red sweater in one of the sweeps of the camera. Watch carefully to see if you can see my wife hiding behind the piano.)

  • urgh.

  • I would rather say arghhh..... :-)

  • Quite good. Recording it there is an awesome touch.

  • Wow, that was really nice. You have a great voice. You kinda sound like Paul. I would love to visit Abbey Road someday.

  • waw, nice video, you have some talent!nice to be in studio number2,how many does cost a recording session?

  • well done....very nice.

  • WOW, nice work

what an honor to be at abbey road, nice cam work, I can never get sick of seeing the studio

  • wow!

  • i wish i can be there and record all the beatles numbers with george martin!!

  • Unbelieveable! This is the greatest video ever. I live in Cary area too. How can I contact Michael so I can give this a try?

  • Couldnt think of a better title then that.nuff said...Xcellent......

  • Fantastic! You're great!

  • Well done!
