this is macedonia of the Illyrians! and non-Slaves who came after many centuries and Hanoi's occupancy territories of Illyrians you want to falsify history illyrians
@CreatureGam3r Soon we'll be releasing a new game called Hegemony Gold: Wars of Ancient Greece, which includes the Philip of Macedon campaign as well as a bunch of other new features, including the ability to play as the Spartans. Check out our website for details.
Unfortunately (or perhaps, quite fortunately) the Spartans are fully armoured, so you might have to use your imagination when it comes to the oily six packs.
@UberMaKedoN It's really not worth fighting over. The problem is that the terms Greece and Macedonia have been redefined so many times that they mean different things in different contexts. The present-day Republic of Macedonia has virtually nothing in common (not even geography) with ancient Macedonia.
@Skrapion "nothing in common (not even geography) with ancient Macedonia"
Before you post ignorant comment like this you should read history(not from wikipedia) and come to R Macedonia to see thousands of excavation sites from that period, and longer before that.
I as a Macedonier im telling you this
i bet that i know much more about my land that you do
@UberMaKedoN I'm certain there's tonnes of very interesting excavation sites in the Republic of Macedon, as it was part of the Hellenic world (what most people just call 'Ancient Greece'), but look up Pella on Google Maps. This was the capital of ancient Macedon, and it's not in the modern day R. Macedon, because the borders are completely different than they were.
Like I said, 'Macedonia' means different things in different contexts; arguing that only one of those contexts is correct is silly.
"That man Philip, not only he is not a Greek, but also he does not have anything in common with the Greeks. If only he would have been a barbarian from a decent country - but he is not even that. He is a scabby creature from Macedonia - a land that one can not even bring a slave that is worth something from".

Yes but ancient Macedonians were Dorics which means a well known Greek tribe like Spartans, other tribes were Ionians and Aiolians!! You are Slavians which means be in mind and heart whatever you think , but biologically you are not Macedonian!!!
Pella, the heart of ancient Macedon is today in the province of Macedonia in Greece.
Also the language you speak is nothing like that of which the Ancient Macedonians spoke (which was Attic-Koine dialect of Greek), doesn't even belong in the same family tree.
Ancient Macedonia was first formed in the second half of VII B.C. During the centuries, the Macedonian borders changed and Macedonia became "Ruler of the world" with Alexander the Great, who is also known as Alexander the Macedonia.
The founder of the first Macedonian Kingdom was Perdika, who lived and ruled from 707-645 B.C. The process of the forming of this kingdom was not short, and it took another two centuries until Macedonia became in power.
Macedonian kings had battles many times with the neighbouring enemies. Some of those kings include: Argej, Filip I, Aerop, Alketa, Aminta, Aleksandar II, Perdika II, and Arhelaj. After them, Philip II and his son Alexander III Aleksandar the Great came to the throne, and expanded the Macedonian name throughout the world.
The biggest enemy of Macedonia at that time was Persia, and some Greek city-states like Athens. Persia and Athens were also in a conflict, which gave Macedonian rulers a good opportunity to expand their empire. The situation changed very quickly, and Macedonia became powerful, but at the same time became weak.
lol you like to contradict yourself don't you? Macedonia became powerful and weak at the same time? Wouldn't that mean it's stagnant and remaining the same, doing nothing? LOL you are a dumbass.
My teacher has this thing at my school where we are assigned a city and I got Macedonia!Phillip forever! But it sucks I have to write a 10 page essay on him :(
Macedonia wasn't a city... it was a kingdom. Philip is awesome though. That 10 page essay should be a breeze if you've done your research well enough. I need to get NGL Hammond's book on him.
Is it an illusion or is this game a bit samey? About three unit types marching on identical cities? If this is a good game, though, there's no way I'm passing it up. I was reading about Philip only yesterday - I will certainly appreciate historical accuracy. Do you think there are more titles coming - Pelopponese, Persian and Alexandrian wars?
And if genes do matter, that path leads to racism. Culture and government are very different. Athens had a democracy, Sparta had a duel kingship. Both were unquestionably Greek. Whether or not Macedonia is Greece any more is another matter that I will not comment on -most of France used to be British. That's my last say on the matter, from a neutral perspective.
Whatever your genes tell you now, that has absolutely nothing to do with the game, set a thousand years before the Slavs turned up. I'd say Macedonia is Greece the same way Russia is European. Who cares about genes anyway? It's about culture. Australians are not actually Australians by that; same with America. Yet Constantinople was Roman.
Nope. You do capture cities and build up their defenses (or possibly tear down the defenses, if you're worried about the city rebelling) but the focus is on combat and tactics.
@Skrapion [Book II - Battle of Issus] "Darius' Greeks fought to thrust the Macedonians back into the water and save the day for their left wing, already in retreat, while the Macedonians, in their turn, with Alexander's triumph plain before their eyes, were determined to equal his success and not forfeit the proud title of invincible, hitherto universally bestowed upon them. The fight was further embittered by the old racial rivalry of Greek and Macedonian."[p.119]
The 'story' section is also a perfect mix of history and fan-fiction! Are we going to have such narrative parts in the game? Perhaps with Isocrates being the narrator hehe
Ahh,what a pleasant surprise has this video been! I read in your forum it's going to be available for download around December? I think it's high time to issue a credit card hehe
Macedonia and Greece are like Canada and the US, at least back then. Same language, similar culture. I am fuzzy on the History of the region but in modern times I think that migrations of slavic peoples may have largely displaced greek populations in Macedon. Alexander was a Macedonian Greek. Well, technically our game isn't medieval, it's ancient Greece. We're in 4th century BC, and the medieval times didn't start until 5th century AD. Our game takes place before the Romans, which hasn't been done too much yet.
I can sympathize with you, however, although there's *more* ancient RTSs, most of them are still really poor. I like to think that we're putting the Strategy into Real Time Strategy with this title, which is something that is sorely lacking from most RTSs.

a/b) By capturing cities, building roads, completing quests, and of course, mining.
c) Yes, you have to siege walled cities, and you can build catapults to help.
d) Yep. As you conquer enemy nations, you'll be able to build their unit types.
