  • You sound like John H. Benjamin...

  • how he do that with his lips

  • WTF at the end O_o

  • @BORICUAGDN ;-)

  • Haha i like your students one qustion.....when did you learn japanese ? before coming to japan or after? and how did you got this job? i think culture change is intresting i like your job .BEST of luck for future

  • Is Japanese school like school in America? For example, if I went there, would I be able to keep up with them and their curriculum?

  • @HiImMuzik14 It would not be that different, though the math curriculum seems to be much higher than in the US. Do you speak Japanese?

  • @kansaiPJ Um well lol, Im on my way with it, recieving help from a graduate and she has a degree in the Japanese language and Im supposed to go to schools that teach Japanese during the summers and maybe throughout the year.

  • @kansaiPJ I love math :D

  • @HiImMuzik14 Math is harder in areas such as China to Japan. Asian ethnic places. :) One reason why they're good at Math.

  • Lol. I love that bit about pooing anywhere you like.XD

  • then.... they just poop everywhere

  • 基礎レベルとしてはいいと思います。英会話学校dと初級から中級準備くらいのレベルかと思います。

  • wahh the guy in red is soo adorable XD

  • Hey PJ

I was wondering what the general expirence of students is like in Japan.

Do they strive to do well in school in general?

    How are they at studying?

Do they generally do well on tests and assingments without having to be pushed hard by the teachers?

I am thinking of it in relation as to how students can be is US schools.

    Thanks.

  • Wow. Some serious questions you have there... LOL!

I think it's useless to generalize to broadly. Japanese students are as individual as students in the West, so it's not possible to answer those questions for all Japan. I think each school as its own subculture that will determine the answers to your questions. Know what I mean?

  • lol Well I suppose I had the impression that students in Japan had a better school ethic because of the culture.

I have done some teaching as well as subbing. I had some pretty challenging situations to deal with as far as behavior. Also with some students having a general resistance to learning.

I guess it is the same there. You always hear how kids in US schools lag behind. I wondered if it was the case. Of course that statement is made "in general" anyway. lol

    Thanks =)

  • That Japanese students are generally more studious and respectful of teachers is a common misperception. Honestly, I'd say they are no more so than US students.

  • It is true that the school year in Japan is much longer than in the US, however, schools here spend a large amount of time in social activies and festivals, health checks, etc - that have little to do with educational goals. The students that are very studious learn most of what the need to learn at cram schools in the evening, not at school during the day. Sadly...

  • LOL i love your vlogs xDD

  • Thanks!

  • XD Your students are funny ^o^

and i love Eigo's expression when you said you wanted to be a great white shark.

  • :-)

  • I wanna meet them! :(

(and you of course, that bald thing needs some waxing!)

Jay is mean. And I'd be a... ninja dog! Cuz they can talk and shite. :P

  • how many students do you have?

Can you tell busankevin to put some vid of his students cause im not sure if he can or not but i think the best vids are the ones showing exactly what you esl teacher do in the classrooms!!

    Keep up the cool vids!!

  • Thanks for the comments. My classes range in size from eight students to about 30. But I am in a small private school. In most public schools, typical classes have about 35 students in each class. About filming classes, most of us don't because of the privacy issues involved. Some students would feel unduly pressured to say yes if I asked to film during class, so I film volunteers after classes instead. Kev is in an even more delicate situation cuz of the students' ages.

  • oh my gosh hahaha. i love your students. absolutely priceless moments.

  • lol eigo with the cow thing. And then you with the horse priceless.

  • I believe it was Eigo? His expression was priceless when you said you wanted to be a "Great White Shark" xDD

  • Eigo is a riot!

  • Inu, inu, mesu, neko. Lol.

  • i want to be a bear or a monkey

  • Glad you liked this one kevinnwhat. Is who a good bf? The 2nd couple in the vid, M & E, have broken up but remain good friends. The first couple featured, A & R, are still together.

  • You're so cool PJ!

  • As are you, OtoSabaku! ;-)

  • Hahaha! Japanese students often do come up with rather interesting answers.

  • My students tend to have a knack for the 'interesting'...

  • I have a very random question... being with high school students, is it true that kids in japan shave their eyebrows? It's kinda scary.

  • Well, some do, yes. Girls and boys. They shave or pluck them out only to redraw them back in, but in a preferred shape. To be honest, it is not appealing to me. But most people do not do that. Now, there are only 1 or 2 students doing that at my school...

  • wjoa. I'm glad to hear that it's a dying fad now. Shaving eyebrows scares me!

  • Me too, azmosis... me too.

  • Wow eigo winged it. LOL. funny. your videos are cool.

  • Thanks! He is witty and smart.

  • Eigo is his name? I don't understand. ;;

    How is PJ lately?

  • His name is Eigo (英悟), not Eigo (英語)。。。 It is a homonym, it sounds the same, but is a different word.

    :-)

  • The strongest animal lion!!

  • I can see you as a lion.

    Good choice sir!

  • so what animal would you be pat?

  • Shark...

    U?

  • jajaja dogs...

    lol

    wheres the mango dude?

cow... thats a very bizarre animal to be.

    jajjajaa poo anywhere lol

The ending was... very weird lol

    funny non the less.

Their english is actually quite good.

They talk better than some people here that have been taking english for over 10 years.

  • To aznaltf4, who put up a nice question, asking if this was filmed in my Youth Issues course. The answer is no. It was filmed after class.I am answering this way because I hit the "remove" button to aznaltf4's question instead of "reply" which is right next to it. Why do they have such a poor design feature?!? Anyway, sorry for deleting your comment, aznaltf4.

  • LOL great vid PJ, I especially enjoyed the reasons your student gave for "choosing" cow. :) 5strz

  • haha now being a cow is plain random, but the poo comment takes the cake.

  • Yeah, Eigo is very quick on his feet. It was Mai who said cow, on his behalf, yet he was able to come up with a funny reason at the drop of a hat. And to do it in a second language... amazing!

  • "Mountains" by Prince - now that's an obscure track. :)

    Nice vid!

  • Thanks! And I love "Mountains"...

  • Thanks everyone for your comments. But I can't take credit for the great relationships I have with most of my students. It's not really my doing. I am lucky enough to work at a special school where the teacher-student interaction is very informal. The students are unique people who are accustomed to interacting with people from different countries. It makes my job easy and so much fun.

  • haha that's so cool that you film your students ^_^ You seem like a really cool teacher haha! Hope all is well dude!

  • "I could poo anywhere" haha that was so cute!

  • In love your studen interviews! Their english is good and they are so cute!

  • That's cool! Why can't we have teachers like you here?

  • Love the "cow" answer. Very funny. You seem to have lots of fun with your students. It must make learning English a lot of fun for them and you seem to enjoy it as well.

  • haha. The cow answer was pretty funny. It always seems like you have a lot of fun with your students which is cool 'cause I haven't had many teachers myself that were cool to be around.

  • Amusing. Wish I had students as comfortable with English as these ones. Also, you seem to have such a nice, warm, and casual relationship with them... that's nice. I envy that. Not here in my (public) school...

  • Thanks. Most of our students have 10+ hours of English instruction a week, and have teachers from many countries, so they are used to us and comfortable communicating with people from different countries. I am proud of them!

  • Very funny!

Did it be filmed during class?!? I never had high school classes like that one!

  • No K, it was not filmed during class. Whenever I am making a new video, I ask different students if they want to participate. If they are willing, then I try to include them. Most videos are filmed after school or at least outside of class hours.
