@wolfypz33 Gutless? A 944 Turbo is just as fast, handles better, and can be had for less money than a Z. I would prefer a 944 Turbo on the track to a 350Z. That said, I would prefer, and bought a Z over the 944 simply because it's newer and nicer for dd. Maintenance costs for the Z and 911 aren't comparable. I replaced transmission syncros, TPMS, driver window motor, and the factory stereo twice. I have replaced a cup holder in the 911 under warranty. Questions?
My 350Z has run for 75,000 miles with no repairs, and I maintain it myself. I bought it used for the sales tax on a new Porsche 911. If you can beat that...right on. The only Porsche drivers that'll race me are Valet parking attendents.
@wolfypz33 My dedicated track car, a 1984 Porsche 944, has 71k miles which I bought for $1800 and put about $1k more into parts etc. Front engine, rear wheel drive. It reminds me of my 2003 350Z. Other than the fact that they are both grey, nothing about the 911 reminds me of the Z.

As for the Porsche vs Nissan argument going on here, Porsche IS better, BUT NOT FOR THE MONEY. A 350z w/some mods can run with most Porsches for a fraction of the cost. for sure the guy in the porsche wasnt flooring it cuz it would of won, I got a JDM z32 300zx vg30dett and when I tried vs a porsche 911 at high boost 14 psi,pushing about 360whp stock tune and wasnt close, but I am in front of every stock porsche boxter and stock 350z (turbo) out there :)
That 911 was a first gen 996, with the 3.4 engine, rated around 300 hp. Those were made from 97 to 01. They literally had the same front end and headlights as a Boxster. This model has the factory "aero" body kit. They were fast for their time, but Porsche had to go with the 3.6 and up the hp to keep up with competition. Personally i don't like the 996, unless it's the C4S version. The 997 is a much better car, and will rape a 996.

@R350zz33 To be fair to your comment, I have only driven a Z32, a Z33 DE and Z34, but have never driven a second gen Z33. The HR is 400lbs heavier than the DE so it needs the extra HP. Have you driven a 911 993, 996, or 997? To your point, ask yourself, why do people spend almost $40k more for a 911 than they do a Z? As an owner of both I'll make it easy on you. Fit, finish, build quality, and capability.
@threedownandlocked thats 40k extra you can put in a z built motor 10k twins 12k supspension wheels and tires 10k then spend the rest on light weight carbon fiber body panels. also the hr might be 400lbs more but it dosent show they are a whole second faster in some cases on the quarter mile stock for stock as well as having better stock suspension
@R350zz33 And at the end of the day it's still a Z. Look, I loved my Z. I drove the car to it's limits. The motor was strong, the exhaust note was perfect, and the steering was on point. Aesthetically. beautiful. That said, the transmission was garbage, the interior was cheap, the ride was like a go-kart but the handling wasn't, and it rattled like a school bus when driven on anything other than a freshly paved road.

@jabba12000 Seeing as I have the means to buy whatever I want; I'll keep my 997 :) The Porsche 911 is the quintessential sports cars. The Z car is a fine car, but you will always be wanting for more if you ever have the opportunity to drive a 911.
The porsche 997 is a nice car however I don't believe it's better than the Nissan in terms of what you get for what you pay. I mean new a 997 is twice the price of a new 370z and performs nearly identical.
@jabba12000 Hard to argue performace value for money against the Z. So why a 911? The 911 is better built with lower engineering tolerances which have an end result of refined fit and finish. It doesn't rattle, it's not full of platic, and it's not cheap. I like to drive, that's why I'd buy a Porsche 911, everytime.
Well sounds like your buying for comfort and luxery. Performance bang/buck nissan has the edge. But why not get an infiniti M56. Those are very nice both inside and out..

If you watch one of my videos at Summit Point with close call in the title, watch at time 833...thats a modified Z33 on the track that I lap. I have a similar video of a Z34 that I need to upload. I don't drag race my car, 0-60 and 1/4 mile times aren't as important as cornering and braking. The 911 is hands down better in all aspects.

@esc2820 the G37 is luxury if you want sports car thats why nissan made the 370z. The g37 is supposed to be a luxury car with some grunt. @brightside85 Hate to tell ya but even with the better tq, the DE Z's get handled. There's plenty of videos of it and even bolt on for bolt on, both on a stock tune, the DE's can't run with the HR's. Not to mention the HR's were power ratings are based on a different SAE standard so the numbers are most likely even lower than the DE originally posted. Plus on the dyno, DE's are weak. But I'm just an ASE cerified tech that owns a tuner shop. So...
I have an '08 HR. I didn't buy it to race, or prove to other car owners that 'oh I'm faster than you" I bought it cause I liked it. I think that is the point everyone is missing here. If u like what u drive, nothing else matters really....

@4gripp It didn't look like he backed off at all, it looked the same as it did from the rear view of my 06 G35 6MT coupe, the 911 gets smoked as soon as I got to about to 80 - 90 mph. Funny how ppl do not respect Z's and G's until they get smoked by one. Dollar for Dollar the Z's and G's are they car to buy. Now spend the same amount of money you would on your G or Z that a 911 cost new, and it would be no chance for the porsche, I have seen G's called poormans porsche, maybe smartmans 911. FTW

@versetile Actually, only the 370Z is a better platform. Everyone that owns a G37 knows that they will get beat by the G35. The G37 went to luxury way too much as the G35 was more of a 350Z than the G37 is a 370Z. The G37 went down hill bad. They should of tried to keep the G37 lighter with less luxury. As for a daily driver that you really do not run in the G37 would be the choice, but even with 33 more hp the G37 is slower than the G35. The G35 even handles better than the G37.
This is a Porsche 996 carrera , probably the worst 911 series ever. The owner added a new turbo wing. The 996 was rated at about 296-320 horsepower depending on the year. He obviously let off towards the end but I'm not surprised you pulled away. If it was a real new turbo it would go 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and up to 200 + mph. So you'd be screwed.

If your wondering if this is a 911 GT3, its not. You can tell by the exhaust and rear body (the little extensions behind the rear wheels are add ons on this car, on a GT3, the rear body is one single piece). I'm going to guess this is a Carrera, not the 'S' model. The 'S' model would have been a close race, the GT3 would have you easily beat though. Haha it's still a Porsche though so good win!
I own a 2005 Z and my brother owns a 996 turbo.........I cant afford a 911 tats why I have a Z.......Zs are good, they were boxter and audi TT eaters but not 911 killers, I can understand with an Intake and Xhaust you could hold a 911, but just running away from it, the way your video shows, nah I cant believe that...........unless uve got something else in your car. Dont get me wrong Z fans..........I love my Z....its a good fun car....but it hard to believe it ran away from a 911.

By the way......the old engine made more torque than the new VQ motors......and for a fact on a track there is still no proof of the 06+ years being faster. The only reason Nissan increased power on the 06+ years is not cause they want you to have 15 hp more....its cause the new Zs got heavier (06+ is a tad bit taller n longer)
@brightside85 I'm simply going from experience. My HR is bone stock, and I've raced DE Z's from drags, 60 rolls, and higher. And I almost always pull at least a couple car lengths on them. My Z dynos at 259whp and 242wtq. My average 1/4 mile times are around 13.1-13.3. And my buddy's DE Z has a best time of 13.6.

But again I have heard of particularly 03 n 04 Z having a lot more torque than the 05+ models...cause pro gt 500 drivers from japan loved that engine the most.

Weird. I don't think he was trying. I raced my friend's 350z with intake, exhaust with straight pipes, plenum spacer, and he beat me when I was racing him in my stock 217HP 986 Boxster. But it was a close race. I was able to keep up and from 40-120mph, he ended up only 2-3 car lengths in front of me. I probably could have beaten that 911 with my Boxster if he was driving the way he did in this video. BTW, my Boxster was less then $10k, half the price of the 350z.

That's a 1999-2001 996 Carrera with 3.4L 296-300HP. 2002-2004 996s with 320HP, would kill ALL stock Z33 VQ(03-06, 287HP-300HP) including HR (07-08)306HP even walk a new Z34 370Z with 330HP. Now if you try any BASE 997 Carreras ( 2005 and up) with "only" 325HP, you will be so far behind in the Z you wouldn't be able to see the 911's tailights! LOL

The 996 here is the first 996 911s, a full make over from the earlier 993 911s( which were a hell of a lot sexier ) with just 300hp on tap, it just doesn't quite do the name much justice. What made it worse is more than half of these 996s came in lame automatics ( tiptronic) They did embarrassing 6 secs to 60! Now 2002 n up 911s( had different headlights) with 320hp would kill this Z, HR or not

Having owned a 400whp Vortech 350Z and now a 996 carrera 4s, I don't see any reason why a 350Z wouldn't come on top. This one is a 300hp carrera (996 mk1 judging by the headlights), the 350Z being a 313hp (plus whatever gains from mods), and whatever weight disadvantage the heavier Z would have is diminished from a rolling start.
Both are great cars so stop hating.
That said, I'm pretty sure the carrera driver lifted off (or missed a shift) after 0:43, the Z just jumped way ahead at that point.

350z's a great car. I currently own a 2009 350z 313bhp after having owned a 2001 carrera 4. It's definately not faster than a 911 but it's not too far off and it's WAY more stable at high speeds so you are going to beat the 911 on confidence alone. My 911 got light at the front which was quite scary!
@morfasupra The only way you own a 2009 350Z is if it is a Convertible, which means you have an automatic, which means it would be about the same speed as that cash for clunker 4.
I'm gonna call you out on this too buddy. I have a 2008 Z33 (VQ35HR) 6MT. There's no way in hell intake and exhaust would make your car able to smoke a 911. No way. I own one, he's quicker to 60 than we are, and if he has the turbo he will absolute destroy us up top. Doesn't matter if it's HR or DE or DE RevUp.
I mean it's ok, I got my car out the door for around $30k, so there's no foul in losing to a $75k premium sport.

A Carrera 996 3.4 has 296 bhp and is 200kg (440lbs) lighter than the 350Z, which has similar power. The Porsche is definitely quicker from a standing start up to any speed, but it would be closer when accelerating at higher speeds as they have about the same drag coefficient. Looks like the Porsche backed off in this vid, at least near the end.
It's true, my 07 350Z (with only modified intakes & Volks racing wheels) smoked a 911 Carrera going up the pass on the Coquihalla Hwy (Hwy 5 BC). I even gave him a 2nd chance & beat him again. Z's rock!!!!

for sure the guy in the porsche wasnt flooring it cuz it would of won, I got a JDM z32 300zx vg30dett and when I tried vs a porsche 911 at high boost 14 psi,pushing about 360whp stock tune and wasnt close, but I am in front of every stock porsche boxter and stock 350z (turbo) out there :)

That 911 was a first gen 996, with the 3.4 engine, rated around 300 hp. Those were made from 97 to 01. They literally had the same front end and headlights as a Boxster. This model has the factory "aero" body kit. They were fast for their time, but Porsche had to go with the 3.6 and up the hp to keep up with competition. Personally i don't like the 996, unless it's the C4S version. The 997 is a much better car, and will rape a 996.

@R350zz33 To be fair to your comment, I have only driven a Z32, a Z33 DE and Z34, but have never driven a second gen Z33. The HR is 400lbs heavier than the DE so it needs the extra HP. Have you driven a 911 993, 996, or 997? To your point, ask yourself, why do people spend almost $40k more for a 911 than they do a Z? As an owner of both I'll make it easy on you. Fit, finish, build quality, and capability.

@threedownandlocked thats 40k extra you can put in a z built motor 10k twins 12k supspension wheels and tires 10k then spend the rest on light weight carbon fiber body panels. also the hr might be 400lbs more but it dosent show they are a whole second faster in some cases on the quarter mile stock for stock as well as having better stock suspension

@R350zz33 And at the end of the day it's still a Z. Look, I loved my Z. I drove the car to it's limits. The motor was strong, the exhaust note was perfect, and the steering was on point. Aesthetically. beautiful. That said, the transmission was garbage, the interior was cheap, the ride was like a go-kart but the handling wasn't, and it rattled like a school bus when driven on anything other than a freshly paved road.

@jabba12000 Hard to argue performace value for money against the Z. So why a 911? The 911 is better built with lower engineering tolerances which have an end result of refined fit and finish. It doesn't rattle, it's not full of platic, and it's not cheap. I like to drive, that's why I'd buy a Porsche 911, everytime.

@jabba12000 The 911 is hardly luxurious. Don't confuse build quality with luxury. I track my cars. If you watch one of my videos at Summit Point with close call in the title, watch at time 833...thats a modified Z33 on the track that I lap. I have a similar video of a Z34 that I need to upload. I don't drag race my car, 0-60 and 1/4 mile times aren't as important as cornering and braking. The 911 is hands down better in all aspects.

@brightside85 Hate to tell ya but even with the better tq, the DE Z's get handled. There's plenty of videos of it and even bolt on for bolt on, both on a stock tune, the DE's can't run with the HR's. Not to mention the HR's were power ratings are based on a different SAE standard so the numbers are most likely even lower than the DE originally posted. Plus on the dyno, DE's are weak. But I'm just an ASE cerified tech that owns a tuner shop. So...

@4gripp It didn't look like he backed off at all, it looked the same as it did from the rear view of my 06 G35 6MT coupe, the 911 gets smoked as soon as I got to about to 80 - 90 mph. Funny how ppl do not respect Z's and G's until they get smoked by one. Dollar for Dollar the Z's and G's are they car to buy. Now spend the same amount of money you would on your G or Z that a 911 cost new, and it would be no chance for the porsche, I have seen G's called poormans porsche, maybe smartmans 911. FTW

@versetile Actually, only the 370Z is a better platform. Everyone that owns a G37 knows that they will get beat by the G35. The G37 went to luxury way too much as the G35 was more of a 350Z than the G37 is a 370Z. The G37 went down hill bad. They should of tried to keep the G37 lighter with less luxury. As for a daily driver that you really do not run in the G37 would be the choice, but even with 33 more hp the G37 is slower than the G35. The G35 even handles better than the G37.

This is a Porsche 996 carrera , probably the worst 911 series ever. The owner added a new turbo wing. The 996 was rated at about 296-320 horsepower depending on the year. He obviously let off towards the end but I'm not surprised you pulled away. If it was a real new turbo it would go 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and up to 200 + mph. So you'd be screwed.

If your wondering if this is a 911 GT3, its not. You can tell by the exhaust and rear body (the little extensions behind the rear wheels are add ons on this car, on a GT3, the rear body is one single piece). I'm going to guess this is a Carrera, not the 'S' model. The 'S' model would have been a close race, the GT3 would have you easily beat though. Haha it's still a Porsche though so good win!

I own a 2005 Z and my brother owns a 996 turbo.........I cant afford a 911 tats why I have a Z.......Zs are good, they were boxter and audi TT eaters but not 911 killers, I can understand with an Intake and Xhaust you could hold a 911, but just running away from it, the way your video shows, nah I cant believe that...........unless uve got something else in your car. Dont get me wrong Z fans..........I love my Z....its a good fun car....but it hard to believe it ran away from a 911.

By the way......the old engine made more torque than the new VQ motors......and for a fact on a track there is still no proof of the 06+ years being faster. The only reason Nissan increased power on the 06+ years is not cause they want you to have 15 hp more....its cause the new Zs got heavier (06+ is a tad bit taller n longer)

@brightside85 I'm simply going from experience. My HR is bone stock, and I've raced DE Z's from drags, 60 rolls, and higher. And I almost always pull at least a couple car lengths on them. My Z dynos at 259whp and 242wtq. My average 1/4 mile times are around 13.1-13.3. And my buddy's DE Z has a best time of 13.6.

I'ved Raced a 2007 911 Porsche 'flat six' which is my mates dads car, and from the lights i pwned him and even rolling at 80km to over 200km = smashed him.

Weird. I don't think he was trying. I raced my friend's 350z with intake, exhaust with straight pipes, plenum spacer, and he beat me when I was racing him in my stock 217HP 986 Boxster. But it was a close race. I was able to keep up and from 40-120mph, he ended up only 2-3 car lengths in front of me. I probably could have beaten that 911 with my Boxster if he was driving the way he did in this video. BTW, my Boxster was less then $10k, half the price of the 350z.

That's a 1999-2001 996 Carrera with 3.4L 296-300HP. 2002-2004 996s with 320HP, would kill ALL stock Z33 VQ(03-06, 287HP-300HP) including HR (07-08)306HP even walk a new Z34 370Z with 330HP. Now if you try any BASE 997 Carreras ( 2005 and up) with "only" 325HP, you will be so far behind in the Z you wouldn't be able to see the 911's tailights! LOL

The 996 here is the first 996 911s, a full make over from the earlier 993 911s( which were a hell of a lot sexier ) with just 300hp on tap, it just doesn't quite do the name much justice. What made it worse is more than half of these 996s came in lame automatics ( tiptronic) They did embarrassing 6 secs to 60! Now 2002 n up 911s( had different headlights) with 320hp would kill this Z, HR or not

I mean i love the HR for its amazing power band but if you look at the car it was built for track not drag. The HR isnt in its prime tell your whiping it around a road course. Having owned a 400whp Vortech 350Z and now a 996 carrera 4s, I don't see any reason why a 350Z wouldn't come on top. This one is a 300hp carrera (996 mk1 judging by the headlights), the 350Z being a 313hp (plus whatever gains from mods), and whatever weight disadvantage the heavier Z would have is diminished from a rolling start.
Both are great cars so stop hating.
That said, I'm pretty sure the carrera driver lifted off (or missed a shift) after 0:43, the Z just jumped way ahead at that point.

It's definately not faster than a 911 but it's not too far off and it's WAY more stable at high speeds so you are going to beat the 911 on confidence alone. My 911 got light at the front which was quite scary!

I'm gonna call you out on this too buddy. I have a 2008 Z33 (VQ35HR) 6MT. There's no way in hell intake and exhaust would make your car able to smoke a 911. No way. I own one, he's quicker to 60 than we are, and if he has the turbo he will absolute destroy us up top. Doesn't matter if it's HR or DE or DE RevUp.
I mean it's ok, I got my car out the door for around $30k, so there's no foul in losing to a $75k premium sport.

I can tell just from the sound that the Porsche is not even close to its redline. Sorry, the 911 will flat out spank a stock 350 in 1/4 mile and top speed.

A Carrera 996 3.4 has 296 bhp and is 200kg (440lbs) lighter than the 350Z, which has similar power. The Porsche is definitely quicker from a standing start up to any speed, but it would be closer when accelerating at higher speeds as they have about the same drag coefficient. Looks like the Porsche backed off in this vid, at least near the end.

It's true, my 07 350Z (with only modified intakes & Volks racing wheels) smoked a 911 Carrera going up the pass on the Coquihalla Hwy (Hwy 5 BC). I even gave him a 2nd chance & beat him again. Z's rock!!!!

The 350Z is a N/A motor pruducing 306hp and the VQ has been in the top 10 best 6 cylinders for 10 years running, While the GREAT euro car is running a flat six awd turbo engine i would say nissan made a more impressive car...
