"If you want to say you can't smoke, that's fine if you're private."
And there is the underlining extent of "libertarianism". It's SO MUCH better the abstract, privatized dictator running your life rather then the government.
Fuck the right-wing. At least when government tells me what to do with my body, it applies equally to us all. Not who they pick and choose, and not from institution to institution. I'd rather have equal tyranny then unequal freedom.
@CAPITALGAINSBRAH Yes, imbecile. Don't judge a book by its cover, but the content. Ben Stein might be a valedictorian at Yale, but if you listen to his argument on Evolution, you will realize he's an imbecile
Here is the problem you idiots, smoking is legal, if you smoke then it is your own problem, just like drinking is. As far as fl goes, they are talking about illegal drugs. Hitler banned smoking, so now we want to take away smoking what next alcohol? MCDonalds, oooo wait what about soda pop. funny they are trying to do that in SF, are freedoms are slowly being taken away, and you morons (all you libs( are to stupid to see it
1200 Americans die because of smoking alone EVERY DAY (not counting tbbacco chewers and snuffers!). There Choice? SURE!
However, 20% of smoke "victims" are second hand smokers, 240 Americans a Day. That means, that smoking americans are killing 240 non smokers a day. THAT means, every 12 days, as many americans die as ppl died at 911. yet there is no war on tabbacco. american tabbaco farmers receive subcedies to stay in buissiness. stupid stupid law? Stupid stupid Beck, who should be put down
@goisermass No doubt i am disgusted with smoking as much as you. But if we are want to get people to stop smoking, we need to make laws to get rid of tobacco corporations. But to do so, you have to work out things to be fair so no one is left out in the cold. For example, its unhealthy to just make a smoker quit cold turkey, so give them some help to phase out thier addiction. Like e-cigarrettes, nutritional therapy, and other alternatives which are healthy. Money needs to be phased out too.
Wow now there is a Republican Governor Scott in Fl that wants to drug tests all state employees and recipients of welfare benefits. Are these idiots supporting him now?
@golden454 Here is the problem you idiots, smoking is legal, if you smoke then it is your own problem, just like drinking is. As far as fl goes, they are talking about illegal drugs. @golden454 this is the difference between government jobs and government handouts. If i am to hire you on at my company I could care less about what you spend your money on so long as it doesn't impact you performance at work. However, if I am going to GIVE you money you aren't going to spend it on whatever you want, you will spend it on what is necessary, that is why I am giving you money isn't it?
I can't believe it, but I sort of agree with the two. I think it's ridiculous that smokers are unable to apply for county jobs because of an addiction that they can't control. They're not going to stop smoking because you deny them a job, you're just being an asshole by denying them a job.
Whoa, whoa, whoa...did glenn beck just use "the red scare" tactic (@ :42) against someone else?! His whole show is about accusing people of being a communist.

Satan get your stakes hell just forze over, im agreeing with Ben Stein and Glenn Beck, they are both still acting like clowns, but they actually have a point this time.
Eating hamburgers and smoking on the air -- I love it! They're being "In Your Face" against the nanny-goat statists.
What Glenn and Ben suggested about the exercise nut coming to the house at 6:00am is not such a new idea; in 1948 George Orwell showed Winston Smith in 1984 exercising in front of his TV with a camera on him showing the exercise host if he was slacking.
These conservatives are so funny. They keep saying they're worried the government will take away their freedom, yet they all want death penalties, a bigger army, a super strong police force and of course want to keep Guantanamo bay open as long as they feel like. I really don't see that small government they say they want so badly.
You know what? I hope Stein keeps on eating the cheeseburger and suffers heart disease. Expect and idiot like Glen Beck to consider that fuckwit a reliable source of information on ethics.
Everyone reach in your pockets for tributes to the private insurance industry and their victory over universal health care. Not paying the tributes is now a crime against free enterprise and its law and State. You will at appointed times worship their victory over socialism or be deported.
I don't see why my tax dollars should go to pay insurance for people who choose to do the most unhealthy thing possible. I work hard for my money and I don't want to support the nanny programs for people who choose to die young. I'm sure that's what they're about to say, since they're so anti-tax and all for personal responsibility.....so....I'll just sit back and watch them agree with me......
@TheLiberalAvenger ... I think we all agree. WTF, who wants their money being spent on others... unless we choose as individuals to spend it on someone else.
What I'm saying is that smokers seem to think they can intentionally ruin their health, take zero personal responsibility for their own actions, then sit back and expect the nanny state to use my hard earned tax dollars to provide their health care policies, as employees of the state.

The cheeseburger? It depends on the cheeseburger. Have you seen that new heart-attack-on-a-bun that Sonic just came out with?
Get this: deep-fried breaded cheese-stuffed jalapeño peppers ("cheese poppers") ON A CHEESEBURGER!! With optional bacon. Mmmmm, mmmmm. Looking at the photo of it ALONE can make your coronary arteries clog right up!
does he think ppl will make him get out of bed and run at 6 ? lol wow
well what does it matter his god will give him eternal happiness anyways so he can just give it the fuck up ...right ? it's comedy but in a very very differant way that they want it to be
No, I have only seen clips from it, and before you say it, yes, I probably should watch it in it's entirety. With that said, I will tell you I still have no intention of fully suffering the duration of this trash propaganda piece led by the Visine guy, and endorsed by a mentally unstable radio hack. If you would like to watch a much more truthful film, see "Kansas VS Darwin". It shows you how pathetically stupid the creationist / I.D. argument is from their OWN perspective.
@MrCherryGhost Well, you might want to consider "suffering" it in order to point out exactly where their question is fallacious. Presupposing it to be propaganda is probably why you have not seen the whole thing. Honestly just watch the whole movie, Stein isn't crazy but simply desires to investigate the issue without ignoring probabilites or other issues. And I never said I believe in creation by the way, but I do let both sides fully express themselves before calling the verdict.
"Stein...simply desires to investigate the issue without ignoring probabilites or other issues."
No, that is a guileful and disingenuous facade. The title alone immediately points out the theme: "The nasty mean science folk don't allow creatio...I mean...Intelligent Design to be pumped into the public school system, so please feel bad for us poor victims of a giant conspiracy." It's the same ridiculous argument over and over again.
@MrCherryGhost That's exactly where you are wrong. You look at the cover of the book, ignoring the actually "stuff" in it... I seriously doubt you would believe anyone who challenged the scientific community, and that is where you are brainwashed. If you would have watched the film, you would see the emails sent to employees who were fired for being creationists. Yeah it would be rediculous IF it was fake. Come to the film with an open mind, instead of a twisted one-sided conformist stance.
"You look at the cover of the book, ignoring the actually "stuff" in it"
Easy to do when the cover features the image of Ferris Bueller's economics teacher in a school boy outfit.
"you would see the emails sent to employees who were fired for being creationists..."
You know who else gets fired? Obstetricians who assert that babies come from storks; creationism is no less ignorant to facts. Do yourself a favor and visit your nearest museum of natural history.
Go FL! I pay $1200 a month for insurance a month for my family and hold smokers partially responsible for this. I happen to live in South FL and the amount of old smokers walking around down here with oxygen tanks in enough to make you sick. It is really hard to feel sorry for someone who does something to themselves.
Have to agree with all these posted comments. Great things always happen when the government weasels its way into another facet of your life. Freedom is way over blown.
I could probably go through the comments and pick out which person is a democrat based on how stupid their comments are and each republican comment based on how much they will defend this vid.
Not a good comment by Ben and Glenn. Eating fattening foods only affects the individual eating it. Smoking affects everyone in the vicinity dammit. BAN SMOKING!!!!!! I'm also allergic to that shit! My eyes turn red and I start sneezing. This is worse than beer and people getting drunk. These two are just being ridiculous.
not to be an ass or anything but the patriot act has nothing whatsoever to do with smoking. It has to do with immigration and monitoring of financial records, email and telephone. So your saying that has to do with ban on smoking in facilities. If your honestly afraid of someone wire tapping your line then you got something your obviously hiding.
I though Glenn beck was mormon.... or is that one of those "fake" cigarettes (like the one's used by the "smoking man" on X-files, tv prop that has no tobacco)
2 hypocritical jackass tea-baggers ... Ben just got expelled from the New York Times; worst "economist" column ever, so about time. Now who the hell is Glenn Beck and what "credentials" does he have, Rush Limbaugh's boyfriend?
Shouldn't we always refer to them as "banana Republicans," not Republicans?
Who else but "banana Republicans" could support unlimited executive power, family dynasties (Duvaliers, Bushes), secret renditions to torture chambers, mercenary armies, 100-year wars, warrantless wiretaps, McCarthyite witch hunts, and the end of habeas corpus?
You'd have to want to live in a banana republic.
Forget the elephant, Republicans, here comes the chaquita!
i absolutely loathe Beck and evolution denier ben stein, BUT.....they have a point this time. i'm not a smoker and am against it, but shouldn't people have the freedom to smoke if they wish?
i'm just thinking about the principles of freedom, not these two guys, per se.
Here's the problem I have with smoking, I'm allergic to second hand smoke so I get severe gas trembles in my stomach when I'm around it for more than around 15 minutes - half hour depending on the thickness in the air. I agree that people should be allowed to put what they want in their own bodies, I agree with Stein and Beck on that one. But I don't agree with smokers forcing me inhale their crap when I'm around them. Me eating and drinking whatever the hell I want doesn't hurt anyone but me.
you think freedom is better than health care mr. Stein? What are you so damn stupid? We dont have freedoms here anymore since your republican buddy bush signed the patriot act...in conclusion i believe unversal health care should pass and the patriot act thrown out
Glenn beck is a demagog puree and simple. His last book finds him dressed in jack boots with monocleHis political play book is the I love my country so much I am driven to tears by the new prodressive movement.Never underestimate the strength of fear and hatred mixed with populist propaganda and a high dose of nationalism. There is a name for Beck,s politics, and he knows it.
With Glenn,s logic marijuana use should not come under governmental restrictions.Or is it Glenn and Ben decide what we should or should not put in our bodies.2 hypocrits.
I wonder how Ben Stein and Glen Beck knows when they have to take a shit. When they feel that pressure sensation in their asshole, do they understand that they have to shit, or do they think that god is telling them to take a shit?
Well I work at a Mcdonalds and I can tell you for a fact...that there is nothing southern about the southern chicken sandwich. Its the same peice of chicken that comes on the club sandwich. The only differance is. The Bun is steamed and we put butter on it. Thats it im affraid. No special spices, no secret ingidiant, and not even cooked in a differant kind of oil. Just a steamd bun & butter.
While I agree with his libertarianism especially about the smoking bans. it sucks that he & Stein put McDonalds' plugs in. Smoking & fast food are bad for you, but I am not going to tell others what they should or should not do.
FUCK BECK! this motherfucker CONTINUES... with NO SAVE POINT... no matter who he has on, he still IS LIKE OHH YOU DIE... best save BECK. . an on another note.. dude, YOU CRY, bet you got bullyied in high school.. OH WAIT you DID...... fucken cry baby,,,,,, enjoy your fifty MILLION.. yes anyone who cries on camm for FOX news needs it.........
Yes he did on CNN some time ago he had his little arrogant im the smartest person in the room attitude telling people they were stupid if they thought we were in a recession and if we were and if he was wrong he would never go on tv again. Fools a bitch
Beck leads a one man crusade against political correctness. Somehow, he has conned the MSM to give him a platform to make fun of their own uptight, PC, authoritarian, holier than thou tendencies. It really is amazing.
Get that attention hound together with a joker like Stein and you have a TV news comedy act...
Oooo is that ben stein the same ben stein that said on CNN if he is wrong about us being in a recession then he will never show his face on tv again. IDIOT
I agree with what you said. But, In case you are defending Glenn Beck, I need to ask you to look for his disturbing stand up comedian performances. And, his recent magazine shoot where he pretended to cry; And, how his emotion there was identical to when he was pretending to care about the civil liberties of his "fellow countrymen".
I love your "handle" we need many more of us patriots waking up the drowning masses.
My main problem with Glenn Beck is his lies. Throughout history there are people providing the "public" with alot of truth to gain their trust. And, then they are guided back into their cages.
Althoug I am not a huge listener or watcher of Glenn Beck I have yet to see him lie on purpose. Even if he has it is far less than many others who do "journalism". for a living.
They SHOULD apply this to bodyweight. Any unhealthy aspect of someone's lifestyle that within their control should be applied to their worklife, or at least their taxes.
Because -every- decision you make can affect your health and health costs. By choosing to sit and post on you tube you are deciding not to spend that time walking vigrously. Is there ANY part of your personal life that you feel competent to run? As competent as a massive federal beuracracy? Because these guys have more confidence in you then you do.
tommyk77 says: "I go to the gym 4-5 times a week and I eat very healthily" Good for you! Obviously we share values of personal care. The question is: do we share the value of FREEDOM? Would you take our values and force (using uniform wearing people with guns) them on other people?
I would not, I wouldn't want to pay to enforce my thoughts against smoking (and all other unhealthy activity) on other people... it's sounding like you might though. That's the important crux of the matter.
I'm not sure where you are getting the idea of guns from, but I am in complete support of taxing those that don't treat their bodies with care. That was what I meant right from the start. Beck and Stein are complaining that they could be taxed for their habits, so I say go ahead and tax them. Why should I pay for their medical bill?
"so I say go ahead and tax them. " Good to be clear then; you don'tt support personal freedom. You think gov't is better suited to make health decisions then the individual whose body it is. As for the entirely separate matter of "Why should I pay their medical Bill?" that too is also eroding the power of personal responsibility and I completely agree that you should have NO responsibility whatever for their medical cost. So, at least we're in agreement in our opposition to natl medical care.
"Good to be clear then; you don'tt support personal freedom"
How do you figure that? They have the right to choose to do this, but they have to pay for it. The medical bill has to be paid for somehow. So they should do it. Fat people take up weight on planes too, which pisses me off when I'm told I cant take my bag on board because it's 2kg over the limit. The passenger next to me must be 50kg over!
I agree tommy. Im of the same line of thinking. Overweight people should pay for their excess. Or join a gym.And they should pay for their treatment when they eventually get health probs. Why should healthy people pay for their excesses? I also spend 5-6 days per week in they gym and Im 47.
I agree. I'm not overweight (170 lbs. at 6''2'), but that's me. Some people are overweight, and that's totally fine by me. It's their choice and their life. I should not have to pay for them, however; this should be something they do for themselves. Similarly, I do not ask anyone to pay for my health, injuries, etc. People should pay their own medical bills. Period.
I disagree about paying for their treatment. And for their hospitilisation.Accidents happen and people will illnesses through no fault of their own shouldnt have end up in poverty paying for their continued health. However people who deliberately abuse their health due to excessive lifestyle should be in a different category.
I agree in principle with what Ben says about maintaining our freedom from bureauocrats who would dictate to us how to live our lives - AND YET - a certain segment of the population who call themselves 'conservatives' do precisely that when it comes to religion. They are willing to surrender a large chunk of their personal 'freedom' to the teachings of an ancient desert cult. This is truly baffling to me.

@MrCherryGhost have you even seen the film?
christiano241525 11 months ago
@christiano241525
MrCherryGhost 11 months ago
@MrCherryGhost Well, you might want to consider "suffering" it in order to point out exactly where their question is fallacious. Presupposing it to be propaganda is probably why you have not seen the whole thing. Honestly just watch the whole movie, Stein isn't crazy but simply desires to investigate the issue without ignoring probabilites or other issues. And I never said I believe in creation by the way, but I do let both sides fully express themselves before calling the verdict.
christiano241525 11 months ago
@christiano241525
MrCherryGhost 11 months ago
@MrCherryGhost That's exactly where you are wrong. You look at the cover of the book, ignoring the actually "stuff" in it... I seriously doubt you would believe anyone who challenged the scientific community, and that is where you are brainwashed. If you would have watched the film, you would see the emails sent to employees who were fired for being creationists. Yeah it would be rediculous IF it was fake. Come to the film with an open mind, instead of a twisted one-sided conformist stance.
christiano241525 11 months ago
@christiano241525
Do yourself a favor and visit your nearest museum of natural history.

not to be an ass or anything but the patriot act has nothing whatsoever to do with smoking. It has to do with immigration and monitoring of financial records, email and telephone.

Sarcasm, mixed with journalism ( more recently reporterism ), is the most dangerous form of comedy.
These people ( John Stewert, Stephen Colbert, glenn Beck ...) teach us to laugh at what is happening to our countries, and the world.
Take no action. Just laugh and be merry. "Bread and circuses" to the end.
WickeDFate4 2 years ago
Glenn Beck is more news and throws some comedy in. Colbert and Stewert are plain comedy.
USAPatriot45 2 years ago
I agree with what you said. But, In case you are defending Glenn Beck, I need to ask you to look for his disturbing stand up comedian performances. And, his recent magazine shoot where he pretended to cry; And, how his emotion there was identical to when he was pretending to care about the civil liberties of his "fellow countrymen".
WickeDFate4 2 years ago
He does use sarcasm and a bit of comedy. However he does have many segments where it is serious and really makes one think.
USAPatriot45 2 years ago
I love your "handle" we need many more of us patriots waking up the drowning masses.
My main problem with Glenn Beck is his lies. Throughout history there are people providing the "public" with alot of truth to gain their trust. And, then they are guided back into their cages.
WickeDFate4 2 years ago
Althoug I am not a huge listener or watcher of Glenn Beck I have yet to see him lie on purpose. Even if he has it is far less than many others who do "journalism". for a living.

Does freedom matter to you at all?
Because -every- decision you make can affect your health and health costs. By choosing to sit and post on you tube you are deciding not to spend that time walking vigrously. Is there ANY part of your personal life that you feel competent to run? As competent as a massive federal beuracracy? Because these guys have more confidence in you then you do.
Galt425 2 years ago
In England I pay taxes that go towards fat people's surgery and treatment, to smokers' treatment too.
I go to the gym 4-5 times a week and I eat very healthily. It's not hard to do at all.
Plus, YouTube lets me do my mind exercises by engaging in these discussions. Thank you :-)
tommyk77 2 years ago
tommyk77 says: "I go to the gym 4-5 times a week and I eat very healthily" Good for you!
Galt425 2 years ago 2
I'm not sure where you are getting the idea of guns from, but I am in complete support of taxing those that don't treat their bodies with care. That was what I meant right from the start. Beck and Stein are complaining that they could be taxed for their habits, so I say go ahead and tax them. Why should I pay for their medical bill?
tommyk77 2 years ago
"so I say go ahead and tax them. " Good to be clear then; you don'tt support personal freedom. You think gov't is better suited to make health decisions then the individual whose body it is. As for the entirely separate matter of "Why should I pay their medical Bill?" that too is also eroding the power of personal responsibility and I completely agree that you should have NO responsibility whatever for their medical cost. So, at least we're in agreement in our opposition to natl medical care.
Galt425 2 years ago
"Good to be clear then; you don'tt support personal freedom"
How do you figure that? They have the right to choose to do this, but they have to pay for it. The medical bill has to be paid for somehow. So they should do it. Fat people take up weight on planes too, which pisses me off when I'm told I cant take my bag on board because it's 2kg over the limit. The passenger next to me must be 50kg over!
tommyk77 2 years ago
Not to interrupt your convo, but if a person is too fat some airlines make them pay for two seats on the plane. ^^
Bardlettt 2 years ago
I agree tommy. Im of the same line of thinking. Overweight people should pay for their excess. Or join a gym.And they should pay for their treatment when they eventually get health probs. Why should healthy people pay for their excesses? I also spend 5-6 days per week in they gym and Im 47.
philster61 2 years ago
Nice to see some clear thinking :-)
tommyk77 2 years ago
Period.
FightDPower 2 years ago
