I would start with the radial roadway and transportation system, but vastly adjust the layout of the buildings and homes. Also, every structure being uniform creates spatial confusion. A little variety is necessary. The biggest flaw here though is the ridiculously low density. I would encourage Jacques to visit the city of Ottawa, Ontario to see what kind of nightmare low density creates.
@dayati I was thinking the same thing about the uniformity of the housing structures, but the uniformity of the central buildings makes them easier to navigate, because giving each hall and room an address would make it only a matter of counting to get where you want to go. As for the density, each city is within a couple miles, so the lack of innercity density is offset by intercity density. Still, any way to increase density without decreasing the feelings of freedom in low density is great!
@dayati this is only one design of one city from one man. there are many more, and many others will be added along the way, to be sure. there's not much limit to what we can accomplish and provide for ourselves without the stress of working 40hr a week, or wondering where our next meal will come from. Jacques Fresco's ideas provide suggested solutions to basic human needs problems. Zeitgeist: Addendum (google it) is a movie he helped make that explains a lot of his ideas.

We need to be looking into carbon and water capture and living trees can give us shade and protection even air and fruits! I would start with the radial roadway and transportation system, but vastly adjust the layout of the buildings and homes. Also, every structure being uniform creates spatial confusion. A little variety is necessary. The biggest flaw here though is the ridiculously low density. I would encourage Jacques to visit the city of Ottawa, Ontario to see what kind of nightmare low density creates.

@dayati I was thinking the same thing about the uniformity of the housing structures, but the uniformity of the central buildings makes them easier to navigate, because giving each hall and room an address would make it only a matter of counting to get where you want to go. As for the density, each city is within a couple miles, so the lack of innercity density is offset by intercity density. Still, any way to increase density without decreasing the feelings of freedom in low density is great!

I fully support a radial roadway for efficient transportation, but this current version of the Venus Project city is too low in density. It's suburbs are even more spread out than current suburbs and such a design would only support about 15,000 people. That's hardly efficient. Also this city is not very walkable. The distance between people will create a distant and boring lifestyle.

Reminds me of H. G. Wells' A Modern Utopia. He describes architecture that pushes new boundaries of beauty by taking advantage of modern materials and methods.
