  • Yeah! Very good!!! Thanks...:)

  • nice playing and lessson.

  • yo, check out my cover of Wild Cherry - Play That Funky Music /watch?v=Ods60L15k1o

  • nice band you've got

  • That got to be the coolest bass player ever.

  • Really cool, man!

As a brazilian guitar player, I would say that the 5th on the D7(9) makes a difference if you put "Samba" and "Funk" side by side. We usually don't use it on samba, making the 9th sound (COLOR!) even more important. So this shape, with the 5th on the "soprano line", is very funky! Believe me! Don't throw it away!!!

    ABRAÇO!

  • Amazing!!

  • Very cool lesson, funktastic!!!!! Love the chord window, very helpful for newbies - cheers

  • nice :)

  • whats the last song name?

  • Good explanation and insights into rhythmic aspects of funk. Good 3 piece demonstrating - I love the organ. Which James Brown played quite well.

  • funk off! thumbs up ...good lesson!

  • Even though this is a guitar lesson, you just helped me out with my keyboard playing by showing those notes. Great job, and the guy playing organ can really tear down on those keys.

  • Superb man!

  • thanks!!! I subscribed and favorited!

  • thought that james brown was soul?

  • @Kumoxi He was known as the Godfather of Soul, but his upbeat music has the funk in it. There is actually several different genres of funk also.

  • Jimmy Nolen is who we're talkin' about.

  • @fretts Yes, it's funny how history has given James Brown credit for playing all those great guitar parts. Not only did Jimmy Nolen father this sound, but he wrote the music for many classic JB songs. Under-appreciated? Perhaps.

  • very nice work you're all surely talented

by the the drummer is totally cute

  • Between [2:18] and [2:48], when alternating between the 5th-degree ("D") and the 6th-degree ("E"), the 6th is really functioning (chord-wise) as a 13th (NOT a 6th), due to the presence of the essential dom-7th chord-tones (maj-3rd & flat-7th.) Even if the 9th ("A") was NOT present, the "E" still would've functioned as a 13th! Other than that omission, I thought this was an EXCELLENT description and demonstration of an important rhythm-guitar component of James Brown's music!

    Bravo!!!

  • nice job buddy .

your a bad mother , shut your mouth :)

    thumbs up from 500

  • it doesn't sound like james brown at all !!! more like some california super happy funk, great sounding never the less.. check Sharon Jones and the daptones for some BAD SHIT .... Sharon Jones music is SIMPLE and NOT jazzy, they are not trying hard hahaha

  • Thank you

  • Round of applause for the band! Great vid too, much appreciated!

  • killer b3 player

  • Good video. But for the sake of theory when you hes talking about 9 and#9 chords what he refers to as a 6 is actually a 13 because when you have a flat 7 in a chord it then becomes a 13 not a 6.

  • ohhhhhhhhhh
