  • Hey coach. I have been looking at some of the players in the NBA, like Kevin Durant or Dirk Nowitzki, and i love their arc on the shot. My shot improved about 70% after watching your videos and i want to thank you for that. My question is, i would still like a little higher arc on the shot, but i can't get it unless i don't look at the basket directly. Watching Nowitzki, it seems he is doing the same. So, what should i do? Should i use more leg power or build muscle memory with my current shot?

  • @12345MareMr You actually can get toooo much arc on your shot and that is not so good because you lose some accuracy. If your arc is at or near where we tell you to be in our video then you are good! If not, you may want to do a better job of connecting your legs to the shot.

  • Kony 2012 mofos

  • Coach,, Im 18 and have been playing basketball for 10 years,, but I cant seem to consistently get the same shot over and over.. Do you have a quick tip on how to get a consistent arc on the ball ?? (by the way,, just found out about this channel, and im definetly gonna watch ever video, just in case I can improve !!! appreciate the effort !!)

  • @Leeejon21 Watch this channel and use the videos and you will get better. For the arc we recommend that you use our video "Form Shooting Drill" to work on those elements of your shot to get them down and then to establish the "MUSCLE MEMORY." Use this every day until you feel confident in your mechanics, then come back to it once or twice a week after that.

  • @ShotScience thanks,,, also, does it matter if I practise my shot on all kinds of different baskets ?? because I travel a lot with my current team.. or does it work better with a familliar basket ?? (talking mainly about the 3pt shots and longer)

  • when i use the jumpshot , i can't give to the shoot a good arc , if i shot high with a good arc , the ball doesn't even reach the rim , and i have to shot with a flat arc , and almost always the shot is short . i'm driving crazy with my shot . great videos , i didn't know this channel , and please help me . Sorry for my bad english .

  • @marcoluchi11 On the jump shot it sounds like you are short of the basket. This is typically caused by holding the ball at the top toooo long! Release the ball as yu reach the top of your jump. One way to tell if this is the problem is this: If it feels under-powered then you are holding too long.

  • @ShotScience yeah , i feel under-powered sometimes . what do you recommend , in the jumpshot have a high jump or a low one ? for a quick release is better to have a low jump , isn't it ? . On the free throw line I can reach the rim easily , but when i shot in almost 3 pt line is like i don't feel so comfortable with my shot because I have to do a lot of strenght to reach the rim . Thanks for the advice , i hope you answered me again . I'm 19 , by the way .

  • coach when ever i try to get the perfect arc and aiming for the nest i keep hitting the back of the rim and missing completly i try to play every day and practice all the time any chance you could help. btw great videos

  • @Fezy95 Thanks so much for your very nice comment. The best way to get that shot working for you is to use our "Form Shooting Drill" video. This is where you develop the "Muscle Memory" so that the shot elements get worked out and you begin to make baskets in big numbers. Try it, you will like it!

  • @ShotScience i also have anouther problem, since i started i got in the bad habit of chest passing and whenever i shoot properly i keep doing it extremely badly and feel uncomftable, so when im playing match with my freinds i just chest pass becuase its more likely to go in, but i rather shoot properly any tips?

  • Hey coach, i try to shoot like ray allen but i can never get the strength for 3 pointer so i shoot from the elbow considering im a young age. Although i can never get a perfect arc from the elbow either is there a way i can improve my jump shots?

  • @iSoarify Check out our video "MAKE 3 POINTERS!!! Get Your Legs Into It!" This vido explains the why and how of using the legs.

  • Coach, I dont have a very good form in shooting, a bad habit formed since young. Would you recommend I change my shooting form/technique to achieve good form/arc? I've tried a few days but my % is terrible and its quite demoralizing.

  • @ekimoow Any time on any skill that you begin to change there is a learning curve that takes some time to get used to. Continue to work on the changes and after a few weeks you will begin to get it going. No skill is learned and perfected in a short time.

  • @ShotScience you remind me of Sandusky. You aren't a pedophile as well are you?

  • @Ph0be What a ridiculous question?

  • @ShotScience Why did you use a "?" are you asking a question or making a statement o.O

  • hey coach,i have enough power to shoot but i can't do the backspin on the ball. The ball allways goes to the rim but doesn't rotate.I put my hand under the ball but when i shoot i don't spin it.It's hard for me.Please help me coach.

  • @TheBasketballman101 The rotation that you are speaking about is placed on the ball with the flop of your shooting wrist at the time you deliver the shot. Check out our video "The Flop Finish" for a better understanding of this element of your shot. The wrist follow through is how you complete the stroke.

  • Thanks

  • hey coach. my arc looks pretty similar to that. But it usually ends up hitting the back of the rim, takes a high bounce and everything. I cant figure out what im doing wrong

    .

  • @Cahiller21 Well, you really need to use our "Form Shooting" to really dial in the stroke. Hitting the back rim is just a matter of practice and the form shooting drill will really help you here.

  • Hey Coach, I found it hard to get that perfect arc during a jump shot. So is it better if I aim for the board instead or is there a way for me to get that arc when I perform a jump shot?

  • @yichieh1998 It is our guess that your arc is difficult because you hold the ball at the top of your jump too long and lose the leg thrust. Be sure to release the ball as you are reaching the top of your jump or the ball will probably be flat and short!!!!!

  • Hey coach, how can you learn to quick release the ball or avoid getting blocked by a player ?

  • @JOSE29805 Check out our video on Dip Rhytmn for ideas on how to get your shot off more quickly.

  • hey coach, im a freshman basketball player, shooting a three isnt that hard for me but i cant get the arc right. should my power come more from my arm? or more from my chest area? Thanks!

  • @kelizabethhhhhhh Neither one! Check our video "MAKE THE 3 POINTEER!!! Get Your Legs Inot It! The legs are the power source for shooting.

  • Hey coach, thanks for all your videos. But here's a burning question. I know when I shoot, the arc of my shot's really low and thus, I should improve on shooting the ball higher. But that's limited cause of my strength. I don't have enough strength to even fire a 3 with my standard shooting form and have to use a lot of chest power instead. How do I improve when I want to? Thanks.

  • @Alexwkj Okay Alex, you have the power thing all wrong. We recommend that you watch our video "MAKE THE 3 POINTER!!! Get Your Legs Into It!" We produce about 80% of the power for our shot from the core muscles and legs. When you learn how to use this power the longer shots will not be a problem.

  • hey coach. i have been shooting but just cant get a 45 degree angle in my shots it is always a 30 degree angle shot how to i correct that?

  • @MrLaosai1 Check out the response of the question above for your answer.

  • Hey coach, when I shoot it seems like my shot always rims out. Is this because of a problem with my arch?

  • @masons2581 Rimming out is more common with a flat arc on your shot.

  • Coach any tips on how to control your strength when shooting

  • @bletma281 This comes from a lot of PRACTICE!!!!!!!

  • This is probably your most important video. Thanks, this really helped. Dwight Howard should watch this.

  • @BoxxyfanSC We feel pretty much the same way as you do about this shooting video. Dwight and certainly Shawn Marion as well!

  • @ShotScience LOLOL Shawn marion as well :D

  • Wat about spinning the ball?

  • @bigtubs24 There should be a little rotation on the ball as you release it. Check out our video entitled "The Flop Finish." this will explain why and how much is best.

  • @ShotScience aight thanks

  • @bigtubs24 You are very welcome.

  • But when I shot with a high arc I airball it alot

  • @jayrad2011 Learn to use your legs to power your shot. See our video "MAKE THE 3 POINTERS!!! Get Your Legs Into It!" This will help you understand why they are important.

  • if the arc is that high, why does some tall players tend to miss 3' shots

  • @francisalec This has nothing to do with your height. The important thing is that the ball be delivered with a nice arc whether you are 5'2" or 7'2". Nowitski has a very high arc and yet so does Nate Robinson.

  • Kobe comes to mind with flat arcs, yet he has one of the top shooting % and better shooting strokes, in my opinion. But like Shawn Marion, you find what works for you haha

  • @abelg3 This is the truth, but why not work on the best fundamentals early in your career?

  • the power to shot the basket , is just on the legs ?

  • @TheBehar397 No, it is a combination of the arms, shoulders and the legs. The legs, however offer way more power than your arms because of the size and strength that they bring to the shot.

  • This doest help :(

  • @nishenator well, we don't know what your problem is so we can't help. Let us know and we can work with you.

  • @nishenator Good! We are excited for you.

  • amazing

  • @GOLDKILLER29 Thanks!

  • i would just like to say arc has nothing to do with how you shoot. i have a very flat arc and i make 67% of my threes and 89% of my free throws. on the other hand i have a flat arc because i jump .2 cm off the ground when i shoot because im too strong i dont need to put forth much effort so there fore you sir are wrong

  • @DevLynch10 well, we lay out all the logical reasons for you in the video. If you have other ideas, that's fine. Our methods are tried and proven, but this sounds more like a trolling comment anyway...

  • thanks but kobe shoots with a straight arc and he does fine so i don't believe you

  • @thefunnyeskimo We are not offended at all. How about one of the greatest NBA shooters of all time, Dirk Nowitski? Well, you have every freedom to think what you want to and we support that.

  • I started shooting with a higher arc but most of the time its hitting the back of the rim and bouncing out. Anything to help?

  • @DusheBags It sounds like you need to work on the mechanics of the shot. We recommend that you use our Form Shooting Drill video. with this you repeat the mechanics over and over until the "Muscle Memory" is established and then the shot will become more effective. C heck ou this v ideo.

  • thanks coach!

  • @Strummify You are very welcome.

  • @ShotScience when im shooting a basket which part should i look at ? should i look at the front of the rim? or the back of the rim?

  • @jerrickb7 Please go to our channel find video Target for Shooting. This explains the target and why we believe that this is the best way to shoot.

  • can you please show what this looks like from the shooters eye view? also the perfect form from shooters view

  • @chippyjordinson We will give this a try. We have a camera that will help us do this.

  • why is it that a lot of players tend to do a jumpshot rather than a on-ground shot [ without jumping ] , i seen a lot of ur comments saying that CREATING SPACE IS more IMPORTANT to get rid of the defenders instead of jumping higher [ which i know is not a solution |_| ] so WHY DO PEOPLE TEND TO JUMP TO SHOOT , why don't just shoot the ball without jumping ? i'm pretty sure the ability to get defenders off is due to great passing and dribbling skills not the jumping of a shot?CAN PLS EXPLAIN?

  • @DaxszY Not all players use the Jumper to shot the ball. The Jumper however, has become the "shot of Choice" for almost all players, everywhere. Do not really know the real reason, but it began with a guy named Hank Lucetti at Stanford University. There were others who were experimenting with it, but he became the most well known!

  • @ShotScience wow , so is the jumper the best way to shoot ? >_< or do i just shoot an on-ground shot ? thanks for ur time anyways ^_ ^ [ too bad i only know how to make a smile like that @_@ ]

  • when should you release the basketball

  • @anamelmo

The ball needs to be released as you are reaching the end of the shooting stroke. If too early the ball will take off and be too strong. If you hold the ball too long, the ball will be very under-powered and probably not reach the basket. Timing of the release is really important.

  • of all the shooting tutorials on you tube, yours has been very helpful Thanks so much

  • @drmarkmadarang We are so pleased that we could help you out! Thanks for your very nice comment.

  • wear to put your hand on the put when you shoting

  • @bradley5838 Please check out our shooting Play list for all your questions on shooting.

  • 1 question, how come when I shoot a basketball when I don't hold the follow thru I make it, but when I hold it it goes to the right? Should I leave It like that or use the follow thru?

  • @EFonziee Please check out our shooting Play list for all your questions on shooting.

  • Thank you!!

  • How do You Get a Good Shot Stance ?

  • @Trydariush33 Please check out our shooting Play list for all your questions on shooting.

  • haha cool video. So if the arch is low can you twist the ball like in 8 Ball in a different directions in order to increase the 30 degrees angle to get the ball in or physics like this doesn't in basketball? Thank you.

  • @Greenjah81 Comer on now! You must be joking, right?

  • @ShotScience Why? I'm not joking, physics usually works same way every where... At least on my own opinion.

  • @Greenjah81 We must be completely in the dark about your explanation. Help us out.

  • @ShotScience ok let me try again. Say in 8 Ball there is different types of shots right? So say if you want to spin the 8 from the bank you must shift the striking epicenter in a certain way. For example hit it slightly off to the right of the center in order to spin the ball left from the bank. So I was wondering if similar rules could apply in basketball. Hope this explains my point better.

  • @Greenjah81 Now we get your question. Our answer is "Not a good idea!" Make the follow through directly at the center of the basket. Everyone has some small tics in their stroke and you give yourself a better chance of the ball going in if you try to get the ball directly in the middle of the basket. It can be a little to one side and still go in.

  • Yo coach another outstanding video its amazing what u learn from ur videos

  • @sunboytv Thanks so much for your very nice comment. We really appreciate it very much.

  • thnx that really help me! :D but 1 thing I really wanna know, is there a trick to dunking? Where should you take off from? How high does your verticle need to be? Does speed affect your verticle when trying to dunk?

  • @CATTingle All of your questions are important to the dunk. We will address the dunk this Spring.

  • Shot science thee best..... I can finally shoot.... At my game I was 10 for 12 all jumpshots

  • @12321mario1 HOW SWEET IS THAT?????

  • it really helps

  • @thejorgeluis1472 We are really glad to hear from you and pleased that this helps your game.

  • I just can't shoot

  • @12321mario1 Well check out our video playlist and get started developing a strong shot. C'mon now!!

  • When your taller do you generally use less power when shooting the ball to get a higher arc

  • @BlackHolePandemic Size has little or nothing to do with the power you need to shoot the ball.

  • Does your height affect the arc?

  • @SuperRedlaser NOPE!!!

  • Everybody if your having trouble making your shots shoot with one foot in front

  • @Markel2298 We think you mean to use a stagger step to address the basket instead of your feet being "squared up." If so, that is in line with our philosophy.

  • I watched this 2 days ago, worked on my shot in the gym and hit a game winning three today, thanks for the tips!

  • @BannanaSin Glad we could help. Stay tuned for more videos.

  • Hey Coach,I found out my form, but the ball keeps hitting the front of the rim.I practice the 45 degree angle thing, but it keeps hitting the rim.please help me improve my aim.

  • @terenfrancis678 We feel pretty sure that your problem is a lack of power. See our video "MAKE THE 3 POINTER!!! GET YOUR LEGS INTO IT!" This should solve your problem.

  • Hey Coach im 12 and im wondering how high my arc should be?

  • @SuperChubbyFul The same height as if you were 16. Go back and review this vidoe.

  • Hey Coach i do have a high arc but it never goes in the basket its a airball or the left side of the rim. How can i fix this?

  • @imadrawer If you will go to our You Tube Channel you will find a "Series" of Interactive Videos" that deal with different shooting problems. Check them out for the answer to your problem.

  • @imadrawer I might can help... I assume you are right handed because i too shoot left sumtimes. its happens to me when i twist my body left. therfore your shot goes left. You jus have to practice jumping up straight. And follow through. Hope this helps

  • how are you sopose to hold the ball when you shoot

  • hey coach, i'm white and short do you have any tips to become black and tall?

  • @poneilable Sorry! We are not into magic!

  • @ShotScience LOL

  • thanks!

  • @qu6a6rk You are very, very welcome!

  • Hey coach can you tell me how to make an u der hand layup???

  • @CelticsDynasty09 Go to our video "Finishes at the rim" and you will see this demonstrated.

  • hey coach how do you know when you should relese the ball

  • @Anthonyphelps97 Through a ton of practice!!!!!

  • Thank you so much! really helped! But do you have a video about how the hands are supposed to be on the ball when you shoot?

  • @TheAwsomeDonet We have a whole library of shooting videos on our YT channel. Go check them out. See the Play List.

  • Thank you!

  • Hey Coach, what is the best position to shoot/make the ball? Thank you for reading the comment.

  • @ii4mpedv3 We recommend that you go to our shooting video playlist and check these out. All of the answers are in these videos.

  • Hi shotscience. I'm noah, 15 years old and from germany.I really like your videos.. Now I have a question: should I use the power of my wrist when I'm shooting ? Because if I did, I would get a higher arc.

    Thanks !

    Noah from Dirks Hometown :)

  • @noahpaul100 We feel that the wrist needs to be very relaxed on the release to make it a soft shot. The power for these shots needs to come from your legs. The arc, as you know from this video, comes from the high release point, not from using the power from your wrist.

  • @SuperYash15 Do not allow the fact that you are short to stop you from developing your entire game. Please check out our Attack Videos for some moves that will make you a load to defend and learn to create space for your shot. Let us know how it goes for you.

  • Great vid you guys helped me ALOT

  • @Uhlaaanvaz224 We are really pleased to hear this and hopefully you will "Spread the Word."

  • Hi coach, I´m 16 and I´m a PF I always go out the weekends to make cycling or running and i have a very strong legs the problem arrives when i use them to shoot when i´m in the mid-area. I´m always over-power and I throw bricks against the backboard. What should i do to get better shot? Please answer .

  • @adryatts there is no substitute for "PRACTICE!" Seriously, you can work this out just by spending time on getting it right and then practice a ton.

  • i really like this video it really helped me but can you please tell us the amount of energy we need to use to get a perfect shot

    and all the right positions?

  • @thirsty4lyf We are pleased that you like our videos. If you check out our shooting videos you will find the answers you are asking about.

  • hey coach, what should the arch of the ball look like? is there a benefit to a really high arch? how do you get the perfect arch?

  • @tysoncobb420 This video explains the necessary arch for the best accuracy. Please review it for the info.

  • Hey guys, I am 13 and I am really getting alot better. But I can only make shots easily with good form and arch close. When I go far away I am always short. Anyway to shoot farther away?

  • Wow, I would always shoot it in 30 degrees and it wouldnt work alot, now ive been making my shots consistently when i knew the arc I wanted to make. Thanks this video actually helped.

  • @AlexThor16 WOW!! We love it! The arc is the most "UNDER-RATED" element of your shot. It makes such a difference in your makes. We are really pleased that you have found our video to be useful. Pleas "Spread the Word!"

  • @GoldenStateOfMind831 We are really happy for you as well. We hope that we have been able to help you with our videos. Just keep on working on that shot and you will be hittin threes before you know it.

  • hey coach how do you release the ball with the index finger ?

  • Thank you this really helped me

  • @killgor10000 Thank you so much for your very nice comment. We hope you will "Spread the Word!"

  • Hey shot science I've been having some trouble shooting lately because my form has been way off your videos have really been helping me out. Thanks!

  • @myfavoritesnack We are really glad to hear this. Keep working on those shot mechanics.

  • I'll try to send a video responce:)

  • @Mojoe12321 SWEET!!! We will be looking for it!

  • it doesnt really matter how high your arm is as long as your elbow is abouve your eye and the ball is released higher than the set point?

  • @m3v2p Well, yes that is the idea, however, you do not want your arm to go "STRAIGHT UP" because that will cause the ball to have too high an arc and probably be short of your target. You want to reach out somewhat, but make sure the elbow finishes above your eyes.

  • Hey Coach,

My Shot comes in, but i know its wrong since i always hit the back of the rim, i would like to improve it to avoid using the rim(in my international competitions rims have fooled me). Any tip to avoid using the rim?

  • @eduardoj22 Please check out our video "Get Perfect Shooting Form." This will do the trick for you, remember it is all about how much time you put into the game.

  • every time iim in a game i shoot it way too far? is it just pressure or is it my shot?

  • My shots always come up short and end up hitting the net. I honestly don't know whats wrong. Any Help? Thanks

  • @wiifan222 No question here, you do no connect your leg power to the stroke. Check out our video "MAKE THE 3 POINTERS!!! Get Your Legs Into the Shot!"

  • my shot always goes off to the right, im left handed...any tips??

  • @ricardinho511 If the ball is going to the right that's where your fingers are going on the finish of the shot. Work hard to get the fingers to dip into the middle of the NEST!

  • my elbow pops when I shoot so my first shot is always off :(

  • @criticaldoza WOW! Never heard of this before. Just have to live with I suppose, as we have no answers for you.
