Euclid Square Mall, 2007 (Dead Mall)

and the guy that owns it, quit blaming him. i know him and i know for a fact he tried to restore a mall that the current economy just wouldn't support. The guy has been always decent. If the place opened up as far as full retail again (not private rental office space) i'd be in there in a heartbeat. There are several tenants in there now though who are doing well, including a full service hair salon, clothing store, etc. oh, i'm the owner of maxxx electronics and again i would move in there.

pt1. the reasons listed and said as to why the mall are closed are ridiculous. i'll tell you the real reason. one owner who bought it does nothing but buy malls to shut them (same person who bought randall before it closed) I use to own stores and various times there. in 2006 they were on there way to a reopening but the current owner could not come up with the money needed to revovate the place the way the anchors coming in wanted it. there were a lot of stores willing to.... end of pt1

pt2. move back into euclid, many of the old tenants had just put a lot of money into renovations of their own stores in there. in 2005 i was the first store owner back in there when they reopened the mall. same as the italian restaurant and a few other stores. I myself would have stayed if they were able to seal the deal and get the anchors in. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RESIDENTS REGARDLESS OF RACE WHY IT CLOSED. I'VE SEEN LILY WHITE AREA MALLS CLOSE DOWN FOR WORSE. know the facts folks.

I have fond memories of this place. Back in 1986, my girlfriend at the time worked at the Chess King and I would pick her up and we'd go out on dates when she got off work. I would sometimes come an hour early to play video games at the arcade (It was the 80's after all). Such fun easy going simpler times.

I don't live near Cleveland (I'm on the West Coast, but as my dad is from the Cleveland area, I've been there MANY times), but I remember that Euclid used to be pretty nice. I'm amazed to see how it's gone downhill... :-(

Euclid's become really bad now, East Cleveland bad. They cancelled the 4th of July fireworks and 185th festivals because of the gangs. I drive by Euclid High School and see the type of kids there nowadays when school gets out and that tells me everything I need to know why this city is so horrible now. If you live by Euclid High School, drive by there on a school day around 2:30-2:45 and see for yourselves.

@fmthebaron only because i rent commercial property from the city of euclid, i can tell you the reasons you stated are not why they cancelled the fireworks and festivals. the city of euclid is very strapped on money so they choose not to do fireworks. it's funny how people come on here with their OPINIONS instead of FACTS as to why things happen.

cutfood4 I agree the city leaders should have a vision for this center piece of Euclid.. The landlord should have a better vision for this property as well. This is why we need to elect a mayor that can bring revitalization to Euclid and not status quo. T here is the perfect reason why Euclid is not growing like Mentor or Westlake. WE are not attracting developers that want to turn our condition around 180 degrees.

Euclid can't get developers/ companies or young families to move in because:

1. the taxes are outrageous (2.85% income tax)

2.  the housing market collapse has made the property there vitually worthless

3. the schools are terrible

4. certain elements (black and white) are chasing the people away

The taxes HURT... and we definitely have our awful neighborhoods but the ones that are taken care of are wonderful, people, houses and properties.

They're building a couple new schools in the next couple of years, we shall see how it all works out.

It's a shame and I wish people weren't "scared" or "nervous" to come here.

I have lived in the city for 8 yrs now. I live in a mixed neighborhood, which was absolutely wonderful when we first arrived in 2001. Everyone took care of their property, and was friendly and respectful. Now, sadly, several homes lay abandoned and in disrepair. Young "ganstas" roam the streets at all hours, swearing, fighting, damaging property, and congregating on every corner. Euclid's fate is sealed, as it has become a renter's city. New schools WON'T change the quality of the education.

@conkatruck Oh yeah. I feel you on the abandoned houses. Literally I've got 2 across the street from me, looking out the front window there's easily more to be seen.

Euclid is a big city and my fiance and I are working out plans to start a neighborhood association in the spring for our subdivision. A little something positive, anything, because I think going out and meeting neighbors is step 1 to a safer neighborhood.

it's really ashame. i remember when the euclid square mall and the surrounding area had lots of good places to shop back in the 80's.

but the neighborhood went to hell and people stopped going because their cars were being broken into, stolen, or vandalized. plus customers were being heckled by gang youths that used the mall for a hangout.

You should see the dead mall in Las Vegas. Directly across from Fairmont. This is nothing different or new. Shot very poorly, it almost seems like a drive-by (video) shooting.

Not much here to look at, and almost seems more like a poor attempt for sentienred to be promoting herself.

The economic issues are very complex for an older community like Euclid. We ignored Youngstown in the early 1970's, so why not Euclid, Richmond Hts, Collinwood, and now Mentor.

So get a camera and shoot a video of the mall. Last I checked Las Vegas was quite a drive from Ohio and also... none of my concern. As for the equipment it was shot on... a Fuji FinePix S5000, lolz. Figure it out. I only have 2 softboxes which isn't enough to light the mall. But I'm sure you know that.

Yup. Dillard's is still functional and there are entrances open to the mall.  Some of the mall is roped off, though. Pretty chilly in there come winter.

It was a very successful mall for years, although its location, in an "industrial" part of town, has always come under some fire.

There are lots of reasons it is the way it is, and it's very frustrating to see it and all the businesses around it suffer.
