  • Hello! (I lnow the chordsof Murder In The City, but would you be so kind to tell me picking fingering of the intro, please? (e.g: P, I M, etc)

  • @ernestpierre Sorry, it's much more complicated than it sounds. Don't have time.

  • This is a superb review, Ken. Extremely helpful to uke buyers.

Personally, just as with cars (BMW, Infinity and so many other car makers are classic offenders), I wish products were not called by letter names (although helpful to a manufacturer, like a SKU number). Everyday people, I feel, prefer buying a Fluke, or a Flea, or a Pineapple Sunday, to a SK30G, or PK30SM. Give me a Chevy Camaro over a Lexus ES52 any day.

Your playing, and demeanor, are always superb, Ken.

  • @coolkayaker1 Thanks for the comments. I have taken on board what you have said. The problem is that we make more models of uke than any other manufacturer.

  • argh!! i dont know what to choose.!! im buying online so i cant try it out myself. all i can do is look at vids and reviews,,,, im looking for a soprano ukulele for beginner but also good quality price range about $70-$90? help!! please

  • @thdrjsdnBRB Maybe go for an Ohana SK-20S. It may cost a little more though. Has a solid top.

  • i use your videos to help my sleep, not the music but your voice! it puts me down in like 2 seconds!

  • @penpen989 Glad to oblige.

  • Thank you Ken. It surely is beautiful.

  • Ken, thank for the video. I just bought a new ukulele for my wife. Because I can't play ukulele myself so I asked the shopkeeper to play couple of ukulele for me to compare. He fingerpicked the same song. I really like the song. What is its name?

  • It is the intro to a song by the Avett Bothers called "Murder In The City".

  • The more I watch these comparison videos, the more confused I get.

I own only one ukulele, one from Kiwaya. It's a KMC-K (concert) so I've decided to purchase one soprano..... ugh........... SO CONFUSED

  • Kiwaya are great. The best way to choose one of these is to try it in person. If you can't and still want one, you have to make a judgement based on something like this. They are all nice ukes.

  • thank you. A pineapple it will be.....

  • Actually it is a toss up between the SK25 or the pineapple one. Will choose the pineapple one purely on looks. Typical female. But (million doller question) is the SK25 better????

  • Not better, just different. They are both from the same series: solid mahogany, no binding. I like them both, particularly with Worth CM strings. I'd go for the pineapple. It has a terrific mid-range and no other company does anything even close to it for the price.

  • Going to get the Pineapple with my bonus. A little xmas present to myself. Can't wait

  • The pineapple is a lovely instrument and very reasonably priced for an all-solid uke.

  • Hi Ken. Here is the million dollar question. If you had £200 to buy an Ohana soprano ukulele, what one would you go for? Thanks.

  • Not sure of the exact price at the moment, but would have the SK-50. See the review in Ukulele Player magazine.

  • Wow! The SK-70MG looks almost identical to my Fender acoustic guitar! It's even made from the same wood; Spruce top and Mahogony sides and back. Even the the binding on the sides looks similar. I think I found a new favorite!

  • Thanks again.

  • Thanks a lot, found this review very instructive!

This is really helpful to listen the comparison between those different models.

    Have a nice day.

  • Thank you very much for the comment.

  • These are really helpful reviews. A bit 'Childrens TV presenter-ish' though ;-) Thanks

  • Thank you.

  • It was this video that help me to chose my Ukulele, i've picked the Pineapple PK-25G. It's Awesome!!! Thank you very much for this video.

i've put my original song on Ohana Pineapple on my Channel.

  • Many thanks.

  • I only actually own 10. all the others belong to Ohana. I keep my Howlett lying around downstairs, a Bruko upstairs and an Ohana TK-35G on the top of the piano.

  • Hi Ken, Thanks for posting it helped me decide which uke to buy. SK 25 arrived 30 mins ago from SUS. Pretty nice for the price, great for what I want it for ( uke it to 'death'). I was going to buy the 35G but thought, "what the heck" the 25 is the same uke without the bling. Would you say they are essentially the same instrument?..... Keep the videos coming!!

.....Just off to strum my new chum!!! bye.

  • There is no reason why the 25 should not sound just as good as the 35.

  • Just waiting for my sk 25 to be delivered.

  • I'm sure you'll be pleased.

  • Very nice review Ken. I like that you did the whole soprano lineup in one video.

  • Thanks.

  • goodness - which one to choose..... they all have there individual charistics. Fantastic playing - it really shows what the Ukulele is capable of.

I really enjoy all of your reviews

    Best Regards

    Matt

  • I got my Pineapple today (it's beautiful)and have mastered "Tiptoe through the Tulips". It sounds soo sweet, I'm totally addicted!

  • Wonderful!

  • This will be my first Uku. I thought I had this nailed down with your review of the CK-35, but I couldn't get that Pineapple off my mind! So I ordered one! Ha! Thanks' Ken, I love your reviews!

  • Thanks. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

  • i purchased the pineapple - and it has a lovely sound ! It has a lovely complex tone which is comparable to my more expensive "K" uke. Great quality workmanship....I'm gonna look at one of the larger ones.

  • I'm so pleased that you are enjoying the instrument. Great choice.

  • i love that pineapple!

  • They have a lovely rich sound.

  • Lovely ukes! I like the zebrano one most :-)

  • The zebrano is still difficult to get hold of. they are selling really well.

  • This is great stuff! Ohana seem to be having something good going. My fellow Stockholmer, Baronen, has a nice one that I tried and got impressed by.

  • Has Lennart got Ohanas advertised yet? Did you know that he is going to be a main dealer?

  • Is that the Gottfrid Johansson store? If so, I haven't been there in a while. Gotta check it out as soon as I can. Or just ask Baronen...

  • Yes, that's the one.

  • I really enjoyed that Ken!! Because of you I own three Ohanas! An SK-35, a CK-35, and my latest addition ..a CK-70G...all of them are really great instruments. The CK-35 has been my favorite out of the three, but the 70G lately has really started to shine. Thank you so much for all you do! Pete

  • Thank Pete. Interesting that you like concerts. I have a couple, but I rarely use them.

  • That was really interesting Ken. I preferred the 4th and 6th instrument for the distinctiveness of sound and the sustain. I surprised myself, actally, because I'm usually not fond of a spruce top as they are usually 'thin' on sound and look bland.

    Very interesting - thank you.

  • Thank you, Tony.

  • Thank you Mr Ken.

Your instruments have beautiful sounds every one.

Unfortunately my ukulele does not have a beautiful sound very cheap.

I hope someday I want to get a good instrument.

But I need a lot of practice even more before that.

  • You are actually one of the best ukulele players on YouTube.

  • Nice reviews! The ukuleles sound happy indeed played in your music room. Thanks for playing them and sharing their differences.

  • Thanks very much. It is my office/studio in the attic.

  • great reviews Ken! thanks for sharing and enabling so many peoples' UAS :)

  • Thanks Russ. The sickness also provides the cure.

  • I pretty sure that it will carry on improving too.

  • Lovely done! Thanks Ken!!

  • Thank you.

  • Great reviews Ken. I think I like the sound of the SK-35G the best.

  • I agree. I think the 35 series are my favourite ukes of all.

  • Thanks for the reviews. I love the pineapple...but all are nice.

  • Yes, it has a lovely sweet sound.

  • They all sound nice but I think my favorite was the ceder top, with the laminate back. It had a nice rich, mellow sound. I have a 12 string guitar with a ceder top and I love the sound of it, much different then spruce of mahogany. Nice comparison, i would not mind one of each!

  • As my wife would say: "You can't play them all at once". Thanks for the comment.

  • fantastic! thanks for the wonderful demo ken; they're all beautiful ukes!

    : )

    p.

  • Thank you very much.

  • Really great to see them all played one after another like that. I dont know if I my ear is good enough to pick one though. I think if one sounded far worse than the others I would notice that. Im sure playing them all the way you did, you have a favorite or two....

  • Yes, there are some I like more than others. But they are all lovely-sounding traditional instruments.

  • Darn you, Ken *shakes fist in the air*. I thought I had satisfied my UAS for a while and you had to go and cause another flair-up.

Excellent review. I really liked the tonal qualities of the 25Z.

  • The SK-25Z is still really, really popular.

  • Great review Ken and lovely instruments. You know I love my Ohana almost as much as I love beer.

  • Almost!

  • I knew that "zeh-brah" pronunciation would sneak in there.

Just a great review all around Ken. Great job.

  • Isn't that how it is pronounced? Thank Coyote.

  • I thought you used the distinctly American "Zee-brah" at first... =)

Again, loved the reviews - thanks for these.

  • Great video Ken !

The SK70MG (the last one ) has a surprising sound projection !

  • Yes, and it will only get better. It has hardly been played.

  • really wonderful not only to compare ohana's products, but for buyers of all brands to see how the wood and shape of the instrument can so effect the tone

  • Thanks for that comment, Alex.

  • I'll take the lot! Is Ohana sending you South?

  • No, I stay in England, Don. But we will be well represented on the Oz tour.

  • Strumming begins at 3:50

They all sound amazing, Ken. Ohana is one of the best big-selling ukes around. My least favorite was the pineapple. The rest, to paraphrase you, are "apples and oranges".

  • Thanks Alan. I really appreciate your support.

  • some great info ken, some fine looking insturments.

  • Thanks Ken.
