Tama ka.... The true composer is the late Augorio Abeto from Binalbagan. Payao is one barangay of the municipality of Binalbagan.

Baka ang tinutukoy nya ay ang English translation ng Dandansoy.

Correction, it was my GrandAunt FORTUNATA MAGSIPOC LEDESMA who composed this song. She is the sister of my maternal grandmother FELIZA MAGSIPOC LOMUGDANG She hails from Culasi, Antique in Panay Island, Western Visayas Philippines.

Dandansoy is an Ilonggo song composed by a poet named Augorio Abeto in the 1930's.. I believe he was elected as a congressman.. He is also the one who composed the song "Dalawidaw," a beautiful Ilonggo love song... He is originally from Payao, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental and a former Mayor of that town too..

Here in Negros, when you say Payao before, say 15-20 years ago, it is very remote place far away from the modern world..but now,its very accessible.. haay...time changes everything...

This is a song I learned when I was little; can't help but reminisce the time when as kids, we play in the rice paddies/fields in --- guess where --- Payao! I can literally relate to the song.

The song has become traditional is a sense, but there are references stating this was one of the Hiligaynon compositions (1930s) of Augurio Abeto.

Abeto was a congressman, and was former mayor of Binalbagan, where Payao is located. We lived in the Abeto's estate 1975 through 1993; Augurio's sister, Rosario, was my parent's wedding sponsor and my mother's benefactor.

During the Spanish era till the American period, Antique's arts & literature were mostly based in Ilonggo since the Imperial Iloilo was already advanced in that field. It's the second tongue of Antiquenos. That's why Dandansoy was originally an Ilonggo lyrics. I am proud that we Antiquenos now have beautiful Kinaray-a lyrics/compositions.... But regarding the personality, the late Fortunata Magsipoc was a Culasina...To date the Magsipoc's is one of the rich and famous here in a small town of Culasi. my late father 2lt. ramon f. magsipoc told me way back in 1965 that it was her aunt fortunata who made this song. my uncle silvestre told me the same thing in 2000 when i went to cotabato.

No, no, no. Dandansoy is a folk song; not a composition of sort. Fortunata Masipok's name appeared in the very first book that published the Dandansoy in a line that goes:

This is a Hiligaynon or Ilonggo song from the Panay island. It is different from another song which is Cebuano and is popular in Cebu, Bohol and Leyte known as Kondansoy but i found out recently that that has sometimes also been referred to as Dandansoy. Maybe some archivers-researchers confused the two songs. After all, both hiligaynon and cebuano are visayan languages.

The Tagalog lyrics you have provided is-I believe-from the Philippine Music Horizons, correct? This is actually, the Filipino lyrics popular in the country because it is the lyrics found in most elementary and HS music textbooks. :)

Does anyone know who the original composer is and whether or not they are Hiligaynon? It seems to me that it is a Hiligaynon song because Susan Fuentes sung it Ilonggo a Visayan album called "Halad Nako" (mostly Cebuano songs). Hiligaynon IS Visayan too.
