well if a strong player cant see a obvious mate in 2 then im a grandmaster-u meant a player with good understanding for the game but without books that thought ur retarded. ino english sucks
@ashish96ps3 I call it the Roy Lopez.. This pronunciation difference is minor compared to some other very annoying ones, also hes Irish so you aint got Nuttin him bitch ;D
It has stood the test of time as it is a 'novel' mate. All sub 20 mates require co-op from the opponent, does anyone on this forum have a checkmate names after them, it is very easy to be wise a posteri.
@HappyFamily383 If black takes the Queen, it will work, but if he recaptures with the knight, white can't capture bishop with the Queen and loses the knight with no compensation.
@ 1:23 you say white has a easy comfortable game... but moving the queen up 4 positions his king falls.... yeah very comfortable. But i'm just an amateur that didn't play chess for like 10 years so i'm probably missing something :D.
um at 1:39 you say that blacks best move is to take the knight but the white queen is right in the black bishops line. The best move for black is to take white's completely vulnerable queen. White's first mistake was taking with the knight.
If white plays 5.Nxe5 like you suggest then black has the reply 5...Nxe5 and now the black knight is protecting the bishop so the white queen cannot capture the light-squared bishop. In this position black is up a knight for a pawn and white has no compensation. The point of playing 5.h3 is to drive the light-squared bishop to a square where the queen can capture it in the event that black plays the more sensible ...Nxe5 (instead of ...Bxe1)
@SeanGGodley Yes, then it's game on! But, I wouldn't say that white is at advantage, since his queen is now locked up, which black's queen is free to move. All I'm saying is that being so obvious a trap, any player worth playing would not fall into it. A decent player should always look at what's attacking their king, when an opportunity to take a queen is presented. There's no such thing as a free lunch.
Sure, it's game on, but white has a big advantage - about +1.5 according to Fritz, so with correct play it's almost certainly a win. It might seem convenient for this debate - but I beat a strong club player with this trap in the Czech Republic a few years ago - and mated him! It's certainly worth knowing, in any case - it's a pattern that crops up occasionally, even playing with the black pieces sometimes. Generally of course it is only good for blitz and bullet. Cheers,
@SeanGGodley Yes, it's always good to learntthe patterns. Better to play proactively than reactively. You can't win if you're always on the defensive.
it's a good strategy to catch noob-medium players ,but the trap relies on the greed that at 1:35 the black will go for the queen ..but what happens if he goes for the horse with his own horse ?then white will lose the bishop to the queen, and black will eat whites bishop with the same horse
@TomKaren1994, WAT if your acting too good? And they see rite through it! Should I start talking about how much point the queen is worth! LOL... J/K I'm gonna try it on every play! Maybe it'll get on my oponent's nerve and he'll resign...???
This could possibly lead into the "Fried Liver" Opening, a very aggressive line for White, and for Black as well. Wikipedia and chess opening explorers such as the one at the 365chess site will tell you more.
Of course, neither the lolli or Fied liver are common, because after 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5 d5 5. exd5, ...Na5 or ...Nd4 are more common than ...Nxd5?
Some gamesmanship to sell this helps. Make the move exposing the Queen... but then don't sneer confidently at you opponent. You've got to sell it. Continue looking at the board for six seconds or so, then "discover with horror" your exposed Queen. Don't overdo it, though. If he gets the idea you're wanting him to see it, he won't go for it. A slight *gasp* will do, then slump back in your chair and lower your shoulders lifelessly. Works for all sacs. ha.
I often have a hard time recognizing checkmate or at least great positioning by offering major pieces. I didn't even see mate in 2 by offering the queen! Impressive. :)
lol okay, im sorry, i realised the mate yeah....i was just rushing throw the video, and immediately saw the bishop takes queen, so i wrote a comment.. :) okay, thats a nice trap
are you stupid? under no circumstances would i capture that knight but take that white queen lol, cause from that move on, black will have the advantage, no matter he is a few tempos back.. i don't see the point in this trap
@Biubiu648 Continue with the video. Taking the queen with the bishop results in a checkmate in 2 for white. The knight moves to a dangerous square, which helps the checkmate. I'd sacrifice my queen for the win every time! :)
now i remember....when i was in the grade school i remember beating an older guy with this line......i never realized it was a Legal Trap. good to know it now.....thanks
@Wismer1987 yes I see what you mean. I usuall take with my knight exposing my queen, and mate from there if they take the queen, however you are right, Thanks
You are absolutely right. I almost fell for that same idea. If you don't drive the Bishop back, the only way for White to win this part of the game is if Black overreacts... and you can never bet on that.
I use Camtasia - you can download a one month free trial online, after that you must buy the software. On top of that you will need an engine - Fritz is also available for free online, you should find it if you search for it fairly easily - although most people are of the opinion that Rybka is stronger, but I prefer Fritz. Good luck!
Hiya - the point of h3 is to move the bishop away from the indirect protection of the knight. If white plays Nxe5 without playing h3 first, then black can answer with Nxe5 and he is better. However, after the bishop moves to h5, black playing Nxe5 will lose a pawn.
I know the lines you mean, but it doesn't apply here because white's D pawn hasn't moved - after 6. Ng5+ black could play Qxg5 and he's won two pieces for a pawn.
Thnx man this helped very I love your videos!

that IS the trap. If black takes then white wins in 2 turns.

By the time the queen is offered, black has already fallen into the trap.

@SeanGGodley Black can move knight @ g8 to f6 without taking the queen and the black's bishop continues to guard the king.

Then Nxc6 and white has a big advantage. Bxd1? loses a piece after Nxd8.
