@dweebcentric Just to give you an idea of how silly the card looks...why be so critical of the comment? Taking it personally? Your design? If so, I can understand taking it personally...it obviously has a lot of underlying meaning and references a lot of psychological pain. As does your reaction to the comment. However, I did also write that it was a good tutorial. So, stop whining.
@idratherbeanonymous InDesign. It was exported to a PDF and imported for this video but 100% of the card was created in InDesign. No other programs were used. I might make a tutorial at some point in which I create the card from scratch to show how it was done.
@RitvarLegend Making a Template in photoshop or illustrator makes the job more easier in Indesign , its like copy paste and in Indesign you can always make it a bit better then in photoshop ;)
@RitvarLegend I can't believe you would mention corel draw! or even quark. what an idiot you must be! Also, you don't "download" indesign ... you buy it, usually an entire Creative Suite, such as Design Premium. This was a good video introduction for people like you (novices). Personally, I am highly advanced and don't know how i got to this page, but sacdigital does a good job explaining. ... You should delete corel draw and quark!
@rustik13 lets see yours... someone is trying to help others who may not know how and read how many people just post...thats stupid or thats dumb or is a noobster...listen post your own and show better or keep your mouth shut...lol...holy moly kids...incredible lack of respect for everyone...damn!
@IXianGriffin No kidding! I am about to cut off the internet! I find this lack of respect really hard to bear. The presenter here does a good job and is explaining the basics clearly. The world is going to hell in a handbasket and some people still insist on using corel draw!
The reason that no document should be open is so this will be a permanent change in measuring units. If you went through the procedure above while a document was open, the changes would only apply to that document; the next time you opened it or another document, InDesign would revert back to the default settings.
I would be glad to help. The "p" stands for "pica," and a pica = 18 points. You should do the following: Make sure that no document is open, but with InDesign open. Then go to the tool bar at the top of your page. Choose InDesign>Preferences. In the drop-down menu choose Units & Increments....From the Ruler Units choose Inches for your horizontal and vertical measurements. Click OK and you're good to go.
On a new document wont let you put fractions or decimal entry, all it lets you do is for example: 21p0, i am running CS4 version of indesign. Any ideas? Thanks
i have a project that the guy wants a 8" bleed on the project is 6x4...does that mean there will be a 2" bleed on all four side... what should my margins be? bcuz they want the pic to be cut out at 6"x4" and some text extend to the end... HELP
Its purpose is basically for the printer to have enough room or space when printing and this will be finally cut off and most importantly for ur text not to override the printing margin. I hope this helps.
I have a question. If I have graphics that intended to touch the edge of an 8-1/2 x 11 final page, then what size paper should I print on in order to cut properly and have image border page correctly? thanks!
If you are cutting it yourself then print on 11x17. The trim it to your desired size......... is it a one off project? If not, then ask the print shop for their opinion.
Just for anyone else that stumbles across this with the same question. You would want to add a 1/8" bleed so the print size would be 8.75x11.25 and we would cut it down to 8.5x11. As for the sheet size we use parent size sheets (28"x40") on the offset press.
Bleed margins are another safety precaution. because in mass production or even small production, the print side of things don't always match up with the graphics side. it also is for a clean cut off, instead of your own personal borderline cut off

@RitvarLegend
what happens if you have to add a slug to your document?and include data for the printer?
quarkpress and indesign the same page lay out application,so why do you mention quarkxpress?
illustrator is a design application, and doesnt give you as much flexibality on typography which text is based on.
corel draw dont even bother about it,its a good vector program, but in advanced graphic countries not an industry standard.
