OMG I was so unwise to think that Ray Charles was the only good version...smiles...how wrong was I as there are 5 versions...all have their very special style and I have to confess there really is not a great deal of difference in all of the 5 versions as they are all so so beautiful love each version equally...Elvis, Hanks, Deans, Rays and Jerry's...smiles...all of equal quality. Thougth maybe Jerry's was a little more up tempo and dynamic...But the others had that beautiful charismatic quality
@johnwaynejohnson, I have been to eight Hank Jr concerts spanning over three decades. I have seen him play drums, banjo, fiddle, bass guitar, steel guitar, piano, harmonica, and he plays each one damn good! Not to mention he absolutely owns the lead guitar...the man can jam! I know I am leaving out other instruments he can play, those I mentioned I can attest to. Hank Jr is a true legend.
@MrSteelerfan58 Not to mention his voice is one you just can't get enough of and he can right and compose with the best of um! There are few musical talents like Hank JR left in the "Popifed country music" industry anymore!
@Tonithenightowl Yeah, he is ten times better than his dad was. Jr. can play 14 instruments, sing better and write the hell out of some songs. Hank Sr. had talent, but he ain't no Bocephus.
@jpac40 LMAO wouldnt just following in his daddys footsteps make his daddy as proud as it does every father? Also wouldnt the fact that hes still alive to be apart of his kids and grandkids life, wouldnt that alone make him better than his father? He lived and that to me makes him better than his father.
Thank the music Gods and thank Bocephus more for fighting them and finding his own style...his daddy paver a path...and Jr walked that path for a bit...but seen it wasn't him and blazed a new path for nearly 50 years and is still making waves in todays country...bring that style to it...God love Bocephus and so do we!!!
Junior is the man. His daddy is very proud. I've seen him 5 times thru the 80's and 90's. It's not a concert, it's more like hanging out with Hank and his friends at his place. Truly deserving of the Entertainer of the Year awards he won.
hank jr didn't want be like his daddy cause he couldn't he was born an raised in a different era of music yes they wanted him to play his fathers songs but jr wanted to be his own , his own style and way and he suceeded and i'm sure his dad is proud of him his father is a legend and i'm sure its in the stars for hank jr very talented traditional country at heart man and respected thru out the land
hank plays 13 instruments fluently...guitar, bass, drums, fiddle, piano, lap steel, pedal steel, dobro, harmonica, banjo, saxaphone, hammer dulcimer, and auto harp
@LT1HILLINGHOE lol...i forgot all about that one...lol...i cant believe i did that, because thats why he plays the guitar like he does, slung over one shoulder.....just like the banjo.....
Well I think whoever said Hank sr is not anything compared to his son should wake up and get they're head out if their ass. He was the mist influential not to mention first bad ass rebel to ever play country like that. He made country what it was back in the 50s 60 s 70 s and 80s.
@itsmebrad-Come on, even though there father and son 2 completely different artists. ANd even though i do like sr quite a bit, in all honesty he cant sing half as good as hank jr. HIs song writing is superior but singing not even close.
@itsmebrad LOL....yeah, Jr. is detroying the legacy of a drunk who drank himself to death lol. If it weren't for Jr. no one would remember his daddy. Jr. wrote more songs, sold more records, had more hits, won more awards and has more fans than Sr.
"Compared to Hank Jr., Sr. looked like a sharecropper." Waylon Jennings.
Well i say the man in black is better Johnny Cash is better but then is walyon jennings then hank jr than sr thats my opion.... LONG LIVE THE MAN in BLACK
@aldrickbarber35 he said "original lap steel". it's called a steel guitar (and was the first known electric guitar). it was the real big world of sound effects before sythetic electronic stuff came out in the 70's.
Sr. did a better job, not a huge fan of the steel guitar when someone doesn't know how to play it properly. But still a better job then what I could ever attempt.
@clarenceleehall Sad? Bubby, you're trying to rag on the greatest country music performer who ever lived. If you don't like Luke Jr., then as Jr. states.... "You can kiss our ass."
Im a 23 year old who always grew up in urban areas and was raised in 90s rock and hiphop but ol skool country has true heart and soul. I like waylon, coe, nelson, hank sr, and hank the 3rd too, flatt, twitty etc. Good stuff
glad you stated that it was just your opinion first. because i dont think anyone would ever agree that statement is fact. but then again, thats my opinion. :)
I think your ears are tuned differently than peoples used to be. It's just how things change. This version suits me better way, but I still think Sr. did it better.
wow thanks 4 uploading. this is a good one. I am a big Hank Jr fan. Just one of the younger ones. I have seen 4 shows of his in person so far. He never lets me down it's a good show every time.
unbelievable the talent. gives me chills. never gets old either
