To be honest these really do look like Japanese lanterns. You light them up and they just take off, kind of like a minature hot-air balloon. You can buy them from markets. All five looked like explosions proper high up in the sky, well above the clouds.

Hmm i live at chichester a witnessed the same event my friend. Aswell as a huge white light shoot accross the sky about 30 minutes after they left
