In 1921, the USSR intervened AFTER Georgia tried to annex Ossetia by force; this is exactly what happened in 2008.
And the pipeline is irrelevant, as the oil comes from the Caspian Sea, which is controlled by Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakstan and Turkmenistan. If this was just about oil, all the Russians had to do was to buy out all of Azeri oil, and the pipeline would be useless.
I know it's hard for some people to understand, but Skyninjabot, not all wars are about oil.

I would like to point out the "military ship" was from the COAST GUARD. It doesn't have the armor to take on anything more than a speedboat.
