  • sick video!

  • This is pretty decent as an Experimental Film

Nice use of Green Screen and Google Earth.

The transitions were different. Whatever someone says about your work.

Its only their opinion, you can't always get positive criticism as its a wide audience.

(For my college project we are just editing clips together from our 'day out' then using Time lapses and so on)

  • Interesting that it is neither experimental nor film.

  • @andradeskim What is it then?

  • Thanks to everyone for all the comments so far, it's tough replying to them all, but I will do my best! It's good to hear your thoughts and feedback, and even criticism. Shiegao's comments are not so useful - but what can you do? He's only a little boy. Thanks again everyone! Keep watching :)

  • Gay

  • @Shiegao Thanks for your constructive criticism. Most useful. I now fully realise why I am not 100% happy with this film! I couldn't have figured it out without your comment, Shiegao. I can now sleep at night and that's all thanks to you! My film is homosexual, yes, or were you referring to gay meaning "happy" or "bright" ? It doesn't matter, they're both great! Thanks! Incase you haven't noticed, I'm being sarcastic. Thanks for taking the time out of your miserable existence to post that.

  • that was mesmerizing, well done, im also studing Un Chien Andalou and was just wondering have you seen a film by Jan Svankmajer called Food look it up on youtube the first segment called breakfast is the only bit u need to see, i think you might enjoy that...

  • @12lcm2010 Thanks for your comment! I have not seen that film, but I will take a look! What did you think of Un Chien Andalou? I'm sure there were a lot of mixed responses..

  • Hey great job on this experimental. I just finished my experimental as well, its not a self portrait though, we had to somehow use the "Tied" "Sumptuousness" "Health-conscious" and "pork" in the film.

  • the ending made my face implode

  • i love how dark this is and this is inspiring me to get more into film as well.

    Thanks for the inspiration

  • @anthonyslayer7 Thanks! I love to hear that I have inspired people. Keep it up and never give up :)

  • the pointy objects were very menacing. So is this some kind of public service announcement? I am definitely going to get some cash together now. Thanks for the advice!

  • love this man... its dark!

    awesome job!

  • Muy interesante, amigo...

  • What is that effect called where the film is in that little box with the curved edges that takes up not nearly enough of the screen?

  • Great green screen work!!! I love the concept. A complete exploitation of special fx that totally worked at your convenience.

  • some kind of constructive neg. comment:You're way to obvious in what you're doing. Feels like I've seen and heard this a million times before. Your influences show way to clearly & the acting isn't very convincing. So, try developing the techniques you're using until they becomes something personal from you. The acting, I think you're just to aware of being in front of a camera instead of being in those moments.Just retake the scenes until they look really convincing.cool what you try to portray

  • On my youtube channel i've just uploaded Part One of Six short film/ experimental film series from UK we're making.. would love to have some feedback we're new to this and are inspired from videos such as these :D good luck also with other videos you creat keep up the good work!! x

  • This has helped me get an idea for my expermental film for my year 12 media class thank you

  • Was this influenced at all by trainspotting?

  • It's really well done, but if this is a self portrait, are you really that glum?

  • Very nice work. Clever use of chroma keying in a few places. I like the shots with the wall imposed on the square and the knife in the hand. Also a nice stylization, reminds me of avante garde directors like Lynch or Hitchcock. Keep it up :)

  • Well done experimental film. The imagery is powerful - yet pretty depressing - it all points to one main theme, a deathwish; suicide or some symbolic equivalent. Many people have persistent images of this type, I don't know how possible it is to empty them out, they must be modified within the mind, remade into more positive images. The leaping from a building can become flying, the guns and knives can be disassembled and made into devices that heal and soothe the heart. Good luck - go ATA!

  • @gravelboycauty i don't know what that means... but thank you?

  • this is what my old film instructor used to refer to as "bad"

  • great video reminds me of the types of films I did in college, keep up the good work

  • @themaledancer7000 Thanks :)

  • If you would be so kind as to watch my experimental video, i'm still new at this, but i love it. Tell me what you think, must criticism is needed so i can do better on the next one. Thank you. [=

  • 0:48 paying homage to chien andalou?

  • Great piece. Very nice. I like the ambiguous accent of the poet / narrator.

  • So, it's a nice tribute ! I particulary like the knife on the sreen and the fall in the buildings.

  • i commented below asking if you could watch my videos and realized i was on the wrong acount! silly me lol.

this is the acount where i have my experimental videos!

thank you mucho! cant wait to hear your feedback =)

  • i make experimental videos, and its hard to get them out there

film is an amazing art, and i wish i could share my videos with more people

it would mean alot if you took some time to check out my videos and give some feedback =) thanks!

  • I'm sure you've heard this before but very 'Andalusian Dog'.

  • @samirathesmall Interesting you should say that. I studied Un Chien Andalou at college, and thought it was a brilliant surrealist film, it gave me a little inspiration to create Self Portrait - The ideas and techniques used helped me portray some of my emotions at the time.

  • question : why did you use a retro esthetic ? It's to show clearly your influences ?

  • @DavidDivague I created Self Portrait as a way of unleashing emotion, and chose to do so experimentally. Film and Art is very close to me, and it is what I love, therefore I chose to give it this particular aesthetic. I also wanted to add some originality to the piece - Self Portrait was then born.

I have a strong family background in art and film, which is where some of my influences come from, as well as some classic surrealist films such as Un Chien Andalou and Eraserhead.

  • Hey man thanks for your reply i have question to ask you. will it be okay if i put few of your idea in my school experimental film?

  • this is genius,

The way it's filmed gave me the feeling of being lost in my mind.

  • CAn some one please explain me the story of wats going on...Thankyou!

  • @linkinahmed I like having people come up with their own meaning for this film. However, to me it's about what I was feeling at the time. Each shot and action is basically a visual metaphor to describe one of my emotions at the time. For example: The feeling of being trapped - This is shown with the use of being sat in a box. Also as I'm sat in the box, it gets picked up which may suggest 'being played around with' etc. Have another watch of the video and let me know what you think.

  • thank you very much ....now i can do my experimental film school project, BTW did you write that poem?

  • @linkinahmed Good luck with your project. You must upload it to youtube when it's done. The poem, and music were both written by Steve Tromans.

  • Hey man thank you for your reply but i have a question to ask you. Will it be okay if i use 1 or two idea from this experimental film?

  • Can someone please explain me the story of this Please!

  • Thats was cool, the visuals grab you.

  • Thanks firstlk420

  • That was incredible. You've got some serious talent. You are a genius!

  • this was fantastic. I feel that the narrators voice and the red blood and the color at the end should have been left out to really give us a sense of being to this.

  • Impressive, mate. I love the Lynchian tones you create.

  • Thanks mate. Appreciate the feedback. More videos like this coming soon. Cheers.

  • fucking awesome.

  • thats scary O.O

  • Fantastic!!! W want to screen it. Contact me...

  • Really really liked it. It almost feels like early German expressionisum. Im going to steal the idea of a self portrait film if you dont mind and make one for my showreel. I think it'll be a really good beggining to get people into my style of film-making. Maybe you could use this as the beggining of yours if you havent already. Its really good. My only worry is mine maybe similar as we seem to have a close taste in things. Really nice work.

  • that was really good well done babe

should give yourself a slap on the back and lay back and have a pint or 2 or 3!

  • Nice lighting, interesting tone and the best deadpan expression since that guy in GHOST on the train ("Get off my train!"). Excellent work... that knife in the hand was brilliant.

  • Mate, that is awesome! It gets better everytime you watch it! Good shot composition, good use of editing and adobe effects! Really good bit of work! Something to be proud of!
