The helmet wasnt invented by the Nazis. It was already used in medieval times. Just google "Schaller" helmet. In WWI IMPERIAL-(not Nazi-)Germany brought it back up (M16, M17 and M18 helmets).
I collect these helmets. No decal M40's in good shape can command prices from $400 to $600. Double for Heer and Luftwaffe... SS helmets $5k and up depending on their condition. Best manufacture was Quist, highest quality and HEAVY!

The production process of the stahlhelm was very special. It was difficult to produce a helmet so deep with such curves. It's neck protection was superior to all others.
I think most armed forces such as the US forces nowadays wear helmets almost the same design as the German helmet.
Firefighters in modern Germany still wear these helmets but painted white. As far as I know, Egyptian soldiers wear them on guard or ceremonial duties.
The only allied soldiers in World War 2 wear such helmets were the Chinese Nationalist army.

@fxcat123 Yes, the helmets were designed to stop splinters, not bullets. My copy is a M-35, better quality with the folded under rim. The M43 had a sharp rim that would cut the camouflage covering fairly quickly.

Ehh.. I see you never thought of how different countries were experimenting with gear and weapons during the period after WWI. It's not like today where we have rules and share our technology, back then you had to invent hand held machine guns, sub machine guns, field gear etc etc.. That way no one looked the same. Today is totally different, as there are rules on weapons and there are only so many ways to design equipment today that it will look the same.
I didn't forget about anything, just stating my opinion. I myself am a veteran, so I completely understand, and am fully aware of how different countries werer experimenting with gear. But that is no different in concept from today. Every army should come up with their own weaponary,helmets, uniforms, etc. German soldiers looked far more professional 60 years ago, than they do now. Now, they quite simply look like U.S. army troops.
Germany, USA, England, France and so on.. They're all part of the same force, so why would they want to look different? it's actually quite simple, we're not going to fight each other in the Allied countries ,but we fight together against the same enemy, wherever it might be, so ofc we will look the same more or less.

You could either make a cast, which would be time consuming to make, or have a piece of sheet metal, a hydraulic press, a form to put under and over the sheet metal while pressing it, and maybe some fine hammering/grinding work. To make the back longer than the front, and with the angle, you would have to cut the metal as well, if you use the press method. But unless you're going to make 1000, it wouldn't be cost effective.

They are not apart of the same force! They are apart of a coalition, but not the same force. What happens tomorrow if we have to go to war against a "former allied partner"?? Don't think it can happen? If it did, we'd have to re-equip our entire military or face more friendly fire incidents. We all looked different from our allies before and it was not problem, so why should it be now???

Ehh.. I see you never thought of how different countries were experimenting with gear and weapons during the period after WWI. It's not like today where we have rules and share our technology, back then you had to invent hand held machine guns, sub machine guns, field gear etc etc.. That way no one looked the same. Today is totally different, as there are rules on weapons and there are only so many ways to design equipment today that it will look the same.

I didn't forget about anything, just stating my opinion. I myself am a veteran, so I completely understand, and am fully aware of how different countries werer experimenting with gear. But that is no different in concept from today. Every army should come up with their own weaponary,helmets, uniforms, etc. German soldiers looked far more professional 60 years ago, than they do now. Now, they quite simply look like U.S. army troops.

They're all part of the same force, so why would they want to look different? it's actually quite simple, we're not going to fight each other in the Allied countries ,but we fight together against the same enemy, wherever it might be, so ofc we will look the same more or less.

First part shows making of a m42 in 4 single steps. alloy was manganese-silicon steel. Last part with rim rolled is
m40 or m35, wich used 11 steps in mo-ni steel. ww1 type was forg. in 16 steps!

I love the german helmet i want one but i dont see why they are so expensive. jesus christ i mean its like $200 for a reproduction bit of metal, i understand if its an original in good condition for $500 but reproductions should only be like 70 bucks
p.s while people are on the subject, america committed some of the worst war crimes especialy at the end of the war when they occupied berlin. no one has heard of them coz the "victors" dont like showing how blood thirsty they are...

Quatity is what the Allies had (saldy lacked quality) Germany had a sheer quality but sadly lacked quantity. France was better equiped than germany when she invaded but sueriour tactis and ability won.

You could either make a cast, which would be time consuming to make, or have a piece of sheet metal, a hydraulic press, a form to put under and over the sheet metal while pressing it, and maybe some fine hammering/grinding work. To make the back longer than the front, and with the angle, you would have to cut the metal as well, if you use the press method. But unless you're going to make 1000, it wouldn't be cost effective.
