  • really? interesting... i may just try that! Thanks!

  • Great playing! ... this pedal sounds super sweet! Very marshally. I heard it goes from JTM45 all the way to JCM800! But i have a couple of questions regarding this pedal... does it use a 9v power adapter? Also, does it clean up nicely with the guitar's volume knob? ... and finally, lol, is it pick attack sensitive? ... i\m basically torn between this and the Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret mkii.

  • @flammingcarrot

Hey, thanks friend! Yes it does use a standard Boss style 9V adapter, or 9V battery. It cleans up nicely with the volume control. The pick attack you can hear in the video, BTW Musicians Friend has a very liberal return policy.

You should buy it from them and if you are not happy return it. Good Luck !

  • Sounds like the good ol'Thin Lizzy sound!!!

  • i hate how in the adds for these things they have to be weird about saying what amp they simulate. just say that this one is based on a marshall and the others are based on their respective amp.

  • good example of a pedal that 'sounds' like a british amp but lacks the correct harmonics that so far not even the best modelers can figure out.

its a multidimensional 'problem' .. but maybe the point is to plug this thing into the front of a fender twin and then youve got some variance. That said can this thing get higher gain? Perhaps with a boost / overdrive in front of it (My original marshall govnr can... )

  • Hi there. I love the sound of this pedal but I'm interested in using it in front of a tube amp. A Custom 50 Hiwatt to be precise. I've noticed the most recent Character series pedals have an on/off switch for the speaker simulator. Are there any plans to include the same feature on the British pedal? Thanks!

  • @solisquistis

I can't exactly tell you when, but it is a possibility that that feature will be available.

  • @solisquistis Contact Tech 21 and ask them if they will put that feature in the pedal or if you can custom order a British pedal with it in there

  • i play grunge and rock and i have a fender amp and i like the distortion channel and the clean channel but some times switching between them is a pain for some reason i think theres something wrong with the back pannel either way its a great amp but for my styles which character pedal would be the best my favourite bands include : puddle of mudd alice in chains smile empty soul and nirvana all them use mesa/boogie amps as far as i know basicaly i just need it to be loud and chunk ,get back to me

  • @raquel1234ful

Did you chek the US Steel pedal?

  • The entire line is already legendary, thanks for the sweet pedal(s), Tech 21.

  • Awsome comment, thanks!

  • hello guys I'm impressed how natural these pedals sound! BTW can it be clean and be an "always ON" amp emulator before a SS amp? or with this as "always ON" can it handle my distortion pedals well? hope you can help me... tnx!

  • @wallmethod

Yes you can leave it on. However two things I would recommend. One : To go in to the effect loop return in the SS amp to avoid it's tone shaping. Two: To use the character around the midpoint, I find that works the best with distortions at the front.

  • @bubu245 Hi thanks... so this means the distortion pedal goes before the sansamp, and the sansamp it always on so in effect the whole solid state amp would sound like as if it is a real Brit amp?... tnx man! :)

  • @wallmethod

Within limits. You still need a fairly flat amp and speaker combination. That's why I prefer direct. In to a PA system is a great way to go too.

  • The problem is that it sounds like a marshall plexi before he switched the pedal on. So this demo is tricky.

  • Funny, more than a year and 60k viewing and you are the first to notice this glitch. The light supposed to be on. It got mixed up in the editing as the audio was recorded direct to the computer ( better sound quality) and I edit them back together. Sorry!

  • i've been looking to try one of these, does it do an early plexi hendrix type of tone?

  • it should get plexi or bluesbraker tones. special for hendrix plexi there is a carl martin plexitone pedal. i can't decide which one i should get. the carl martin sounds supert thru the front end of an amp. i heard these tech21 only sound good direct in the mixer..?? i have not seen a demo "britisch - into front end of an amp" yet.. so i may get the carl martin pedal, since i don't need jcm 800 and shit like that, but this tech21 has at least 2 great different sounds, it depends.

  • No... This is good for Iron maiden

  • sory man, tokio hotel of fpr suicidals, emos, and gay guys

  • sounds like a mix between marshall and vox! awesome.. of course thats what its supposed to sound like but, they hit the nail on the head

  • I am seriously diggin' this pedal!

  • If anyone besides me wants to see a PROGRAMMABLE RACKMOUNT VERSION of these pedals, put in your request with the nice folks at Tech21. Go to their website for contact info. Thanks!

  • You're f*cken RIGHT . When will they issue a rackmount of their many new character pedals & other analog effects, fully programmable AND midi compatible ??

  • its their psa-1 (1.1) :) its really a kickass preamp

  • Excellent sounds out of this pedal. I'm a Character Series believer. Best Rgds, Andrew B. (NOT Andrew Barta)

  • are you andrew barta

  • I am Bartacus.

  • But is is possible to use it with an amp proberly?

  • what amp is being used here?

  • No amp, it was recorded direct to the computer.

  • Did you run through effects loop? I read a review in guitar player and the dude said he had a hard time dialing it in unless he ran through the loop?

  • Actually it is direct . However I agree that the loop is the best way through an amp.

  • bubu42, Can you make one of this tape of "official" demos but with the Sansamp´s Bass Driver DI?

I ´ve searched hard in the internet but only found a BDDI clone demo here in you tube.

    Regards.

  • can you get a nice randy rhoads tone out of these pedals?

  • Didn't try it , so I don't know for sure. You need to put a MXR distortion + in the front of the pedal. Also he used a different set of speakers not Celestions ( I think it was Altec Lansing), so the final sound will be somewhat darker, but you could try to compensate with the EQ. I hope this will help.

  • ok thanks ill try it

  • Is possible to get good clean sounds with this pedal?

  • 0:16 is close to be clean, but if you turn the drive down further it will be crystal clean.

  • Comment removed

  • It has a different sound engine. It is like an other year/bach of Marshalls. The distortion is more gradual than the previous ones. There is a larger in between clean / distortion area. Also the 3 band active EQ and character knob will give you a ton of new sound shapes.

  • How is this pedal different from other SansAmp pedals like the GT2 and Tri-AC? I have both pedals and both sound awesome! Those pedals can also produce Marshall type tones so I wanna know if the British is more accurate soundwise.

  • Has anyone used this pedal in front of a tube amp such a fender super or deluxe reverb? I'm wondering how well they interact considering this pedal uses cab emulation.

  • Hey Alipopo! Just posted a video with the British pedal going into a Fender Deluxe reverb amp. Check it out!

  • i have one bass driver but if i used the other pickup for the second hand, maybe i need another tech 21 product like the psa rack or your VT bass Thanks for the advice and video demo.

Cause a lot of demo on youtube didn't used the direct dry sound into sound card, and for my recording test i need to heard dry soundcheck, and those stomp box have realy good quality without effect and eq.

  • The bass driver is used extensively with the Chapman Stick (Trey Gunn from King Crimson).

Also the Para Driver and the VT Bass is recomended.

  • you right Bubu the Roland jazz chorus is one of my favorite amplifier, especialy the flat thone with chorus and a lot of delay sound very aerial, and sure it's good way to use your tech 21 product.

I have question what kind of tech 21 product can be used with a Chapman Stick ?

  • its supposed to be both. thats what the character knob is for. they're both British r they not? thats the point dude.

  • what gear?

  • Tech 21 Power engine 60, 50/50 with the DI sound. Flat EQ. Les Paul with Duncan pickups.

  • I really like the sound meant to sound like a marshall I think but how you think it would sound through a roland amp.

  • sounds more like a vox than a marshall

  • I've posted a new sound sample (part II) with less mid.

I hope this will sound more like a Marshall.

  • A Jazz Chorus is probably your best bet, as it really needs a flat sound.

  • This pedal sounds great! You could likely record a killer rock/hard-rock album with just a basic stompbox-style guitar tuner and a Tech 21 British pedal. No amps,EQ,effects or anything...just plug into the interface and let it rip. I'm getting one of these.

  • Has anyone tried this thru a fender amp such as a blues junior? I'm looking to get the marshall power amp distortion at lower volumes. Thanks!

  • this one is more Vox oriented, try the tonebone hot british or or the Maxon ROD-881, cheers!

  • Bingo! Picked up the Vox vibe right away.

  • No, Tech21 designed this one to be a Marshall simulation. Their "Liverpool" is the obvious Vox simulation.
