I have my own fond memories of this film. I saw it when I was 11 (1982) and was a huge fan of the fight scenes. The first, where Zack kicks some rednecks ass outside the local bar is good but he really gets down and dirty in the blimp hanger! If Lou hadn't kicked him in the balls (cheap shot) he would have broke his neck! Signed up for martial arts the next week and haven't stopped since. I guess I owe Zack Mayo for that!

My dad was a USMC Sgt. in charge of training OCS candidates at Quantico in 1953. He had a kid like Mayo he wanted to quit in the worst way. Dad was convinced the guy belonged in prison and not in the USMC. Dad pounded his ass to no end. He woke him up at 2:30 am and had him doing push-ups. The guy stuck it out. And my dad ended up "graduating" him in spite of everything. Sometimes it's just a contest of wills; who wants it the most.

Should have shown the fight between Mayo and his DI, best part of the movie. Winger said the love scenes made her sick, she didn't like doing them. Guess she must be a lesbian because it's not like Gere was a bad looking guy.
