Solid playing man! Very smooth feel. Question: what are you using for your electronics? I started playing bass a little while ago but know nothing about pedals, loop stations, anything, so I wanted to ask.
I wish i had a 7 string, cause theres so many things you can stylistically do on a 7 string, however ill stick to my four string for now. awesome vid. keep on playin
@diggablemanny i often feel the same way when i see other bass players playing (#truestory). I think we may both have the problem of being overly self-critical. There will always be room for you to grow as a musician. Not a single one of the bass players that we admire got to where they are without years of dedication to their craft. Check out bunnybrunel and marlowedk and spend as much time as is necessary to get a lot of the things they're teaching down. I'm STILL practicing their stuff.
@diggablemanny and LLroomtempJ --i am not as good as you guys but i often also feel that i am crappy because i see you guys and feel that i am not as i should be but my friends tell me that i am not technical but that i come up with things that others players might not come up with .We all have our space that we fit in so let's just do it i suppose.
@thuggedoutbitch i've got a neck from the custom shop and gold hardware. This bass is a present that i received from a friend that has multiple 7 string basses.
Man, I really like ur style, I'd like to get to know u to be friends for a knowlegde exchange. can I have ur msn adress ? greatins from colombia, south america.
get the hell outta that room and rent a loft and invest in yourself papa...u r going far dude...get a hip hop rock trio going and hit the streets...with a female vocalist? what!!! Sade meets Beyonce meets Alicia Keys meets Spyro Gyra
@Awsomeman365 DRUM PLAYER: who cares cause i just got a job with drake to play drums ahah and i got a new kit wit a double kick pedal with 2 floor toms only got it for 4,568
You should use a RC-50 Loop Station, I think your style is great and being able to play around with 3 different phases could really suit it well. Awesome playing though.
sounds good but i think your top string is slightly out of tune. as someone has already has already mentioned i like how you build up your melodic lines, gives the listener a good understanding of the piece before you start elaborating on your scales, modes and arpeggios
@llS2639ll it's easier than it looks. The hardest thing about playing a 7 string bass is playing repetitive bass lines on the low end. "Higher ground" is a perfect example of a song that is VERY difficult to play b/c of how repetitive it is and how difficult it is to stretch for the octave across the neck down there (Eb slap octave --> F# slap octave --> Ab slap octave)
if you dont mind me asking what is yourmusical background?? ae you self taught or actually trained in music?? im self taught but there is only so far i can get without actually getting down the fundamentals.
I started out playing in the church. My first teacher was a beginner's bass lesson vhs. After that, i picked up things in a very here and there/piecemeal fashion. 2 lessons from justin raines. One lesson in a guitar center on intervallic playing from a random guy. Took 15mins. Did a lot of playing by ear
Didn't "officially" learn the pentatonic scale until my 3rd year on bass - no doubt i had been applying it.
I wouldn't recommend that anyone learn the way that I did.
@choigunz the fundamentals are key. I've got a video up here called chord and scale instruction. Watch that. Also learn bunny brunel's scale stuff. Those lessons are invaluable if only to give you different things to practice and different tools in your solo repertoire.
@choigunz Common misunderstanding, No one needs a teacher to learn music. If you mean music theory by ' fundamentals., do a google search, you can learn anything you will ever need to know about music theory on line, the internet is an amazing tool, I have used the internet exclusively to learn to play bass I have no proof that I am good, cause i have no videos, so you have no reason to believe me, but honestly, I feel that I am a very very advanced and talented bass player.
Man they had to cut down a whole acre of wood to make that monster!!Naw but serious real sweet, real mellow-not nececcasry my type of music but when it sounds and and you see talent and passion that's all that matters at the end of the day...
