  • i think he is great ace, rainbow, alcatrazz, kiss, agree,!!!

  • @TheRijir My take on it is that its a great song no matter who sings it. Russ's version is the original version and nowt that Rainbow or Headeast or Clout have done can out do that. They are all great versions of a great song that was written by a genius songwriter. Some people need to deal with that fact.

  • I love how the album that this is from is called "Winning".

  • @servantlol Winning is an excellent all round album that artists like Santana, Roger Daultry and of course Rainbow borrowed songs off.

  • He's a genius.

  • The Currie sisters did this pretty sell too.

  • Russ is a singer/ songwriter/ musician/performer/ story-teller. You can see why so many artists want to cover his stuff. Thanx for the video. Russ has a great smile:)

  • It's got touches of "Louie Louie".

  • original is really cool, a bit more prog in the arrangement than the covers which gives it an edge I think, over all though still some pop sounds in their, if he'd released it in the early 80s might have done better.

  • this might be the original, but god damn, there's a lot of cowbell here

  • @yanava - He's got a FEVER for cowbell.

  • I still like Head East's version best, but this is good, too.

  • Wow what a talented guy

  • nonono, the ultimate version is by Clout ! the Cherie and Marie version's pretty much up there too. But the original is a mere test-run compared to both of these and the Rainbow version.

  • This version is awesome!

I like Impellitteri's version as well, that version is less known

  • i like rainbow version better.

  • you cant beat the original, ever understoof why he didnt realise the song as single

he would be even a bigger star

  • He did released it as a single and he even performed it on TV in the UK, but it never made it. About a year later, Rainbow covered it and they had a hit with it instead.

  • @tismeagainful he must have got some cash from Rainbow's success with it....

  • Check out the Cherie & Marie Currie version. (Cherie Currie singer of the Runaways)

  • It's interesting to hear that little fill that appears on the Head East version is present on the original chorus. Here it sounds like a timbale or tom tom fill, but Head East used some kind of electronic percussion effect, and inserted into the intro as well.

  • my god, this so much better than rainbow's version. it is a little bit faster, but better. i am a player and listenter and im a TELLING you that this is THE BEST VERSION OF THIS SONG. there is no question. russ ballard was a genius. just listen to VOICES. there is no doubt in my mind that he should have been as famous as most of the fools of his time

  • obviously, you are a moron. i mean that in the nicest possible way

  • Enter "Ballard Since You've Been Gone Germany 2009"

No synths, no organ, no goddamn cowbells, lots of electric guitar -- ala Rainbow. Ballard learned his lesson, even if did not.

  • i would really love to talk to him. ive been singin his praises for a long time. his version is much better than the people who cover his songs. it is ridiculous. i love voices. it is one of my best memories of childhood. not sure why i heard it. apparently it was not played that much, but somehow i heard it. go figure

  • Ranbow's version is better, tbh.

    Thanks for uploading though :)

  • no no no! Russ' version is better. you need a q-tip. lol
