I'd almost believe that there was a government conspiracy to sell-out and neutralize mtv. I can't understand why else MTv would suck so bad when it had so much to offer music in the mid 80s.
dude i am so with you although i'm a teen now i remember that the late 90's is when it started to go downhill i really wish i could of lived in this era for the fun!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I know what you mean. In the 80s, people in the office like Tipper Gore pretty much hated the music and videos popularized by mtv, and then they made the whole parental advisory logo on the records and tapes. And now look where we are. So I would definatly no be surprised if you are right.
Good call. Unfortunately, that's what happens when anything becomes popular. It becomes "corporatized" and watered-down to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

This was the beginning of the end, when they started to put other shows on MTV and mentioned 'great music videos' last. When was this, after '86?

I know and I grew up in the wrong generation. If was born before the 80s I would of been a star and I should of been born before the 80s.

Its a real shame they don't play videos anymore, I'd have no problem watching if they showed some music related programming.
