@Gopis108 what is a gopis??(magigal creature)..lol.. u believe in myths like different gods present in the universe, and the stories in the vedas??...its like greek mythology all human invention.gopis know many tunes?? how u can tell that...lol
@Gopis108 ur the deluded one asshole!!!...the female brain and he male brain are different, sometimes the presence of testosterone in a male brain can make a person do certain things where a female brain wud be limited..testosterone makes u faster, stronger and more accurate and gives u more attitude in ur style...sometimes makes u feel things better..or u may get more creative.
Cool....I really feel I need to study drums around the world....I'm so used to American drums (especially marching percussion instruments)....I rarely see much anything else...except for things like bongos, LOL! And I call myself a percussionist, wow! I really need to get out more!
@101swoop101 I get what you mean, in the inverse. i'm American, but i've studied only world percussion and drum kit, so i have no knowledge of timpanis or marimbas. now all these colleges want to hear a percussion solo and they hand me mallets and i whip out my tablas lol.
It is quite expensive to get a good one in the US. The crappy ones are at least $300. A good one is going to cost as much as over twice that. Many places on the internet do not sell good mridangams because a good mridangam is made with S. Indian jackwood.
Hey nice one.... The arai chapu and the free hand movements are UKS trade marks :) Nice gumukki as well, but it needs to have more weight. All the best
Rajna is shining star on the music firmament. Has the best training from UKS, the discipline to perfect herself, and the innate music sense to accompany for songs and musicians depending on their style. Best wishes to Rajna!
i think the beeping noise keeps track of the rhythmic beat, so that when she plays a long variation, she can return to the constant and steady pattern of the beat..
if you count in fours, you see that it is heard at every 4th beat.. so it maintains the timing and helps the percussionist..
I have seen you perform in Arizona at the Chandler Center for the Arts about 4-6 ago. You were with a complete Karnatik ensemble. You played a solo by yourself while the senior players kept tala. You have improved quite a bit since then. Keep up the beautiful playing
Hello mi name is sainathabalasingaratnam. I am sorry for causing problems with Rajna. I am actually rieshiees best friend and recorded his video that day. While rieshiee went upstairs i posted his video. I was alos watching rajna's video. For ppls to watch rieshiees viseo i wrote thes inhumane comments about rajna. I didn mean it
First and Foremost Rajana is a fantastic player. I respect her and her play, i respect her guru and his style of play even more. She has a great future ahead of her. But don't use the greatness of her guru's name to make her look good. I dont care who u r Rishies vassipu is also very good. But dont compare and if you are don use their gurus to compare eachother because i noe that rieshiees guru is far more of a father to his students rather than a teacher
People posting videos its good that you play this much under appreciated art form of divine attatchment.
Remeber that it is of divine attatchment, so keep your ego somewhere else, as all us mridangists and music lovers know that this is a very talented girl with special enthusiasm and talent.
Do not hate her because she is a woman, she has definetely in my humble opinion earnt respect as an artiste.
i have personally seen rajna play in bangalore, and she is excellent. I have seen videos of rieshee play as well. Both are good. Please do not compare artists in such manner, it is beneath the true meaning of music.
i find it hilarious how so many people on this site think theyre amazing at mridangam and put rajna down. you guys are all retarded. shes sri umayalpuram sivaraman's student, and my good friend.
Oh one more thing, were you in Clevland this year? My grandparents sister told me she saw one female mridangist who was very young and played a concert.. was it you?
I can't believe these people, I mean people saying "Good, but I can play better", or the people even complementing her saying "wow, your doing very good, you go girl". NO, this is unbelievable for anybody, let alone a 15 year old.
Just one suggestion if I may, try not to play with the Thala Meter too much because you'll get used to it and will soon not be able to play without it. I don't know if you play with it every time or not, but just words from my guru.

What the heck is that periodic beep beep sound???? Irritating. The rendition is definitely good though. V. mature for her age.
