I'm suspicious of a December 1991 date for this video. I suspect that it was from early 1991 or earlier. By late 1991, KYW had adopted a very formulaic "The News Tonight" title for its 11 p.m. newscast, "The Weather Now" for its weather segments, etc. The intros were less breezy and more mystical.
@howardkevinm KYW are the call letters of the station. CBS owns the station. However, KYW was an NBC affiliate in 1991, owned by Westinghouse at the time.
The sports guy lou tilly..ousted for on air womanizing remarks...the weather dude Steve baskerville...left philly went to cleveland and lost his mind..currentl y in jail
@stevefromPA2 Steve Baskerville is at WBBM in Chicago and has been there for several years. He's not in jail. You are thinking of David Rogers. He went to WCBS and became a drunk...got fired for a DUI or something. I think he's still at the NBC affiliate in Charlottesville, Virginia. Lou Tilley was fired for having sex with a woman, who was not his wife, in a car in the parking lot of the Flyers/Sixers arena...and got caught.
Love the open, the theme is a classic for KYW, and the logo drop at the end with the quick zoom on the set is exciting. Classic glory-days style local news open.
There was a period where KYW kept the Eyewitness News look for the 6pm news, while the morning and late news used the new titles. NewsBeat didn't start until they hired Bruce Hamilton in 1992.
