  • You have a problem reading.Guess it's, called selective reading. You are most definately in the buisness on bitchy-ness.End.

  • Her voice is ok at best. This is a very mediocre rendition of Melissa Manchester's song. There is no comparison between the two. Melissa is by far better. Elkie might as well slit her throat because she really can't sing that well. Don't get mad or be haters fans of Elkie Brooks but it is what it is and Melissa Win's hands down! Any of you who think any different about this are only fulling yourselves and knowbody else! No competion here. MELISSA MANCHESTER RULES BY FAR!!!

  • @MrEM1971 It is obvious that you like cabaret singers like M. Manchester. Elkie Brooks is the best Rock , Blues, Jazz, singer the U.K has EVER produced. This was a European and UK hit for Elkie Brooks in 1978. Manchester's voice is soooooooo boring and can only sing one style of music POP. Elkie could teach Manchester how to sing. Maybe not, it's too late for Manchester to learn. Elkie a great singer. That is quoting Aretha Franklin.

  • @Jackie1957able What a rude comment about an artist with a different take on the song. Both women have made it their own. That is what good artists do. Aretha Franklin has too much class to say "Elkie could teach Melissa to sing".

  • Having seen Elkie a number of times I can assure anyone who's interested that she certainly DOES have stage prescence. She engages with her audience and it feels like you're at an intimate party rather than a packed theatre/concert venue. She is 'up there' with any female vocalist out there, and far superior to many.

  • @popazz1 Does Brooks still sing this in public?

  • @baritonebynight When to come to rude try reading your own comments. The quote from Aretha was " Elkie Brooks is a great singer"Try reading the comments correctly!!

  • @Jackie1957able I read comment correctly and you used no quotation marks to indicate where the quote was and the rude comment" maybe its not too late for manchest to learn to sing" comes right before the comment elkie is a great singer. Next time use proper punctuation. I knew Ms Franklin has too much class to be that rude. You apparently lack that class as much as you lack communication skill.

  • @baritonebynight People that trow around the word class , it is usually because they are lacking such. So ,you know Aretha . She may have class ,or not. I, unlike you, am not in a position to judge. I have only ever seen her in a public domain situation. Like most artist , she behaved well. In private who knows.

You should learn , that class does NOT depend on how you punctuate . Perhaps when I am as old as you , I will be able to do so. Then I will be full of class. LOL

  • @Jackie1957able Using quotation marks shows where the quote is so the reader won't have to try to read your mind. Making a comment that Melissa Manchester need to learn how to sing lacks class. Take that one back to your special ed teacher in school and maybe they can help you...I sure can't.

  • @baritonebynight No you sure cannot help, as you seem to read ONLY what suits you.Your understanding of class is seriously lacking. Having an opinion and having class are totally different. Hope I have made that, as simple as posible for you to grasp. Maybe not.

  • @Jackie1957able I can't help because I'm not in the biz of special education.

  • @baritonebynight ,

When I saw her way back in 1978 I don't recall what she sung, lol,I was too much in awe! She sang it when I saw her 3 years ago and she was incredible. Then I saw her 2 years ago and she didn't sing it then but she was still amazing. She narrates her songs rather than just 'blah, blah, blah' them.

  • @popazz1 That must have been great. I wonder if she still sings "don't cry out loud" in public when she performs.

  • @baritonebynight ,

Yeah,it was amazing, each time. She does try to re-arrange her repetoire as much as possible, but as with all great vocalists she appreciates that her fans want to hear the old favourites.

  • awesome

  • Melissa Manchester buchered this Elkie Brooks classic. Elkie has a much greater voice than Manchester

  • she truly butchers this melissa manchester classic. she needs to add emotion to her singing. the ending is entirely hideous. go to "melissa manchester" to see a true artist at work.

  • @albertito006 Elkie Brooks has an amazing voice. Just listen to the boring CABARET version that Melissa Manchester does and you wil know just how great Elkie Brooks voice. That is if you are not deaf. STRONZO

  • <3

  • no stage presence ...boring

  • @gwdevil1012 What a STUPID comment. Elkie has lots of stage presence, and some to spare. Great voice.Go watch Bassey, she is over the top if that's what you want.

  • @gwdevil1012 You're mad.

  • @gwdevil1012

    IDIOT!!!

  • This is a great version !!!

  • incredible, truly- i mean Shirley Bassey's interpretation is truly, traditionally bombastic, but this lady's version is truly, ultimately, a revelation- what a sheer artist

  • @BluegrassGal101 Elkie is totally great !!!

  • wot can u say bout elkie fantstic xxxx

  • U made me cry tonight becouuse I,remember U sinnginng this song & u sing like a bud hun!! love ya.....XXXXXXXXXXX so much!WOW!!

  • U made me cry tonight becouuse I remember U sinnginng this s sonngb like no one else!...WOW no one willl ever sing it like u HUN!!!

  • Heavens, everyone is so caught up with Elkie. And I didn't even think I had a channel, even from Australia, even if I may be English or Italian or French. Did the poor old thing have any other hits anywhere? Where is she selling out? Probably backing up Whitney Houston. Such fun seeing everyone get so impassioned even as the Great is taken out of Great Britian. Meanwhile, dear old Shirley is perched on her balcony in Monaco, clutching her chilled glass of Dom Perignon and doing the accounts.

  • @toucheturtle300Bassey holding on to her ZIMMER frame for dear life. You are the one that is a TROLL , You have been stalking Elkie , leaving negative comments.Again you make the most ridiculous comments.Elkie is the BEST female singer that the U.K has ever produced, as a person from the U.S. that is what I think.I see lots of singers on the sidelines, IF idon't want I don't bother, to listen just to leave negative comments. SAD .Bassey oversings EVERYTHING.Just stick to your CABARET shit.

  • Just dreadful! That last note. Someone had the nerve to compare the Shirley Bassey version with this rubbish. My goodness. Little wonder she faded away....just like the last very flat note.

  • @toucheturtle300 What a stupid comment. Elkie HAS NOT faded away, she is still recording and doing sell out tours. I wish people would try to do some research before making ridiculous comment's.Elkie HIT version is so much better than the over the top Bassey version. It was U.K hit for Elkie NOT Bassey. Elkie has a much more interesting voice than Bassey. I don't think Bassey can sing Rock & Blues. Elkie is MUCH more an all rounder.

  • @toucheturtle300 Just looked at your channel. What SAD taste, well guess it is your age. Not surpised you cannot appreciate the great vocal Talent that is Elkie Brooks. Austrailian as well. No HOPE.

  • @toucheturtle300 Elkie version is soooooo much better than boring Bassey screaming. This song was ment to be sung with softness. I am a singer and you I guess are tone deaf!! Elkie Brooks is not capable of singing flat. No wonder you do not appreciate her great vocals. You are tone deaf.P.S she has not faded away. Very much touring and recording. Sounding better than EVER. Turn up your deaf aid GRANNY.

  • @toucheturtle300 Guess you are some sort or TROLL . If you don't like this version , why do you keep coming back to listen to it and leaving negative comments. YOUR so SAD. Stick to your cabaret crap.

  • @MrSloppy1991 Me a Troll and you, Mr Sloppy. Go figure? Peter Allen wrote this song and sang it in much the same way as Shirley, not that he would know what to do with his own song. Rita Coolidge does a wonderful soft version. Elkie just pops up on the sidelines for 'suggestion' and one is tempted to have a listen. And you are a singer? How marvellous! I shall await your name at the Albert Hall. Elkie is still in Derby in the Assembly - back of the old RR factory??

  • @toucheturtle300 You sound like a SAD OLD BITTER QUEEN. Go suck up to Boring Bassey.

  • Saw her last night at Bury St Edmunds. Fantastic. She played a lot of her latest album. It's her first for five years and it's a craacker. Anybody buying it will not be dissapointed. I love Elkie Brooks, she gives pensioners a good name.

  • @mart492 She gives the real meaning, to great singers.

  • I thought I knew about everything '70's but I was wrong. Thanks for posting. She's got a great voice.Never heard the song prior to M.Manchester.

  • @ubermenschize Elkie had a U.K. (and parts of Europe)hit with this in 1978.

  • amazing lady ....xxxx

  • 6 people are,like,maybe DEAF!

  • Thank you, Elkie. Thank you musicman70plus. Apreciated.

  • 1st saw her,as an 18 year old way back in '78.Then,2 years back my sister, bless her, surprised me with a ticket to go see her,(don't ya just luv sisters, lol),and she didn't sound or look any different. She is definitely one of Britain's truly great female vocalsists and has more than proved herself time and again.

  • God this could have been written for me luv ya Elkie xxxxxxxx

  • Saw her live a few years ago - she's truly AMAZING!

  • Just got her latest c.d. "Powerless" a really great album.

  • A great version by a great singer. !!!

  • must be a lot of talent in salford, was roger moore born and bread there

  • Amazing...timeless

  • I tend to judge any UK female singer against Dusty Springfield... and this girl is one of the very few who can be mentioned in the same sentence. Brilliant.

  • My father and I always plays this song (loud) when we get home from the pub - funny how we both find her bloody sexy! Quality lasts! great voice. always in my top ten!

  • Bless her heart. She got through it. Hardly "the best voice" to ever come out of UK. Nice job with the song, but just nice.

  • @randyslovacek Elkie Brooks could give a masterclass on how to sing. The U.K.s best female singer by a mile. She can sing Rock, Blues, Jazz. Fantastically !!!!

  • @randyslovacek Not to appreciate the vocal ability of Elkie Brooks , you have to be totally stupid, or totally deaf. BLESS !!!

  • LOVED HER VUICE

  • Once again a great song given the Elkie magic. You should see her live outstanding.

  • amazing song love her.

  • Rubbish without the orchestra climaxes! Weak.

  • @FreeBritain1 Seems like you take pleasure in giving Elkie Brooks negative comments. Which to me ,indicates a very sad person. Go elsewhere with your negativity.Elkie has to be the best female singer the U.K. has ever produced.

  • @farttart00000 As some of them are not negative, your comment is not correct. The song 'deserves' a huge band and suitable tempo. It is delivered 'with Elkie' in other videos and I'm thoroughly enjoying it as my lead vid. at the moment, thanks :-). Have a gorgeous weekend and ~~God bless~~

  • GO GO GO Elkie! FanBloodyTastic!!

  • Went to her concert in Eastbourne (cant remember the year), I do remember a hair tingling performance and when her son came on stage, I just knew that this Lady is in a class of her own!!!!
