I feel for this family b/c my husband and I both have had the same amount of denied coverage when having serious medical problems. The insurance companies come up with all kinds of excuses not to pay the bills; God knows that I have had to spend hours and days to resolve the problems or just pay out of packet.

My dad's doctor was pissed when he prescribed a medication for his Acid Reflex and the Health Insurance company told him to take "step up" drugs because they didn't want to pay for the medication that was originally prescribed. My dad's still kicking, but he's still moving up because the meds they're making him take aren't working.
Yet, how fortunate are other people who need medication that would save their lives? Do they have to take "step up" drugs or are they denied health care altogether?

Really frio I worked for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield the company that denied an MRI to woman that needed to determine if she had a brain tumor or not, I worked for University Health Plans a private HMO that denied a infant a life saving cardiac operation because the hospital that could do it was out of network. The MRI I had nothing to do with the infant I told his father there was nothing I can do. I refused to help because that is what I was paid to do. No politics here just guilt.

I know a young woman who survived childhood bone cancer. She is now in her mid-twenties--completely healthy and cancer-free for over ten years and now can't get insurance.

We were told that because of the pressure that she puts on her left hip and leg by the way that she walks, (because she couldn't finish her therapy), that she will have to have a complete knee and hip replacement by the time she is 30. She is now 21 and a sophomore in college. She just applied for health insurance but was denied coverage for anything that is related to her cerebral palsy. That means that if she has to have hip and knee replacement it won't be covered. THIS IS REAL LIFE.
She doesn't have muscular dystrophy. She has cerebral palsy. She needed a specific kind of therapy and it was denied to her by our insurance company. Now it's too late. If our system isn't reformed when it comes time that she needs to have hip and knee replacement surgery, she will have to go without--and probably end up in a wheel chair.
No, she's a student. She was on medicaid, but she no longer qualifies. She can't collect disability because she's a student. Disability is only for people who can't work because of medical conditions. The thing is that WE HAD INSURANCE! WE PAID OUR PREMIUMS, but were DENIED the treatment that she needed when she was a child and now that she is an adult she can't get the surgery she needs as a result of being denied the treatment she needed when she was a child. How F**ked up is that?
Yes, it's a legal disability but she's not in the work force yet. She's a college student. She can't collect disability. She doesn't NEED disability. She can walk, talk and function well. Hell, she's a 4.0 student and speaks French fluently! What she NEEDS is to be able to get a hip and knee replacement when the time comes or she will end up in a wheel chair and THEN she will probably have to collect disability!

I feel for this family b/c my husband and I both have had the same amount of denied coverage when having serious medical problems. The insurance companies come up with all kinds of excuses not to pay the bills; God knows that I have had to spend hours and days to resolve the problems or just pay out of packet.
The PAID TROLLS have no heart or sense of any kind of values as demonstrated by their comments to this video.

Do you remember 100 years ago, when factory workers pulled 16 hour shifts on average? It was not uncommon to die while working. From exhaustion or from unsafe environments.

My dad's doctor was pissed when he prescribed a medication for his Acid Reflex and the Health Insurance company told him to take "step up" drugs because they didn't want to pay for the medication that was originally prescribed. My dad's still kicking, but he's still moving up because the meds they're making him take aren't working.
Yet, how fortunate are other people who need medication that would save their lives? Do they have to take "step up" drugs or are they denied health care altogether?

Really frio I worked for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield the company that denied an MRI to woman that needed to determine if she had a brain tumor or not, I worked for University Health Plans a private HMO that denied a infant a life saving cardiac operation because the hospital that could do it was out of network. The MRI I had nothing to do with the infant I told his father there was nothing I can do. I refused to help because that is what I was paid to do. No politics here just guilt.

This is wrong, this really can be fixed by bringing in competition. I don't believe that if someone pays it religiously and they have a pre-exisiting condition and they can't get healthcare, then they wouldn't of already been able to get insureance. I know a young woman who survived childhood bone cancer. She is now in her mid-twenties--completely healthy and cancer-free for over ten years and now can't get insurance.

St. judes is for any child w/ a life threatening disease, w/ funds from Ronald McDonald they treat non-cancer. What everyone can agree on is that what we have now is government managed care, so instead of looking towards free-market solutions (ie an insurance company would step up to cover this child in a truly free-market) we look towards more government management? No one ever asks the questions why healthcare costs so much (charging $500 per suture?), instead we demonize insurance companies?

yes they say the ceo makes too much,I work for an insurance company and yes we do deny coverage but the contract states what we do deny,but people dont read the barely readable fine print.
They falsely assume everything is covered.They think from a hangnail to a callous is covered, we dont cover hangnail or callous,yes we got many hangnail and callous claims. that we deny.

Nathan is not going to die if he dont get his medicine,he can die if he cuts himself being a kid because his blood dont clot.Hes a bleeder,my grandmother was a bleeder,so she stayed away from knives and sharp objects and she didnt take any medicine.She died of a stroke when she was 59,not as long as expected,but she was married to a drunk who made her life miserable.

We were told that because of the pressure that she puts on her left hip and leg by the way that she walks, (because she couldn't finish her therapy), that she will have to have a complete knee and hip replacement by the time she is 30. She is now 21 and a sophomore in college. She just applied for health insurance but was denied coverage for anything that is related to her cerebral palsy. That means that if she has to have hip and knee replacement it won't be covered. THIS IS REAL LIFE.

She doesn't have muscular dystrophy. She has cerebral palsy. She needed a specific kind of therapy and it was denied to her by our insurance company. Now it's too late. If our system isn't reformed when it comes time that she needs to have hip and knee replacement surgery, she will have to go without--and probably end up in a wheel chair.

No, she's a student. She was on medicaid, but she no longer qualifies. She can't collect disability because she's a student. Disability is only for people who can't work because of medical conditions. The thing is that WE HAD INSURANCE! WE PAID OUR PREMIUMS, but were DENIED the treatment that she needed when she was a child and now that she is an adult she can't get the surgery she needs as a result of being denied the treatment she needed when she was a child. How F**ked up is that?

Yes, it's a legal disability but she's not in the work force yet. She's a college student. She can't collect disability. She doesn't NEED disability. She can walk, talk and function well. Hell, she's a 4.0 student and speaks French fluently! What she NEEDS is to be able to get a hip and knee replacement when the time comes or she will end up in a wheel chair and THEN she will probably have to collect disability!

Ever look at paying cash to an overseas health care provider like to maybe a hospital in india?I hear they have decent doctors there and many people can afford them.Of course you would have to somehow pay cash someway or another.

We had excellent insurance coverage, we thought, but when it came time for her to have weekly physical and occupational therapy starting at 18 mos old, our insurance company balked and fought us tooth and nail over it--finally refusing to pay for her therapy when she turned three. Well I am a Knight of Columbus member and I wish we as an organization would fight for the lives of people like in this video. Sad to say we think like fisherman, oh to small throw that fish back we get him later when he is older. I have not seen one KofC standup against private health insurance greed but they fight the President on health care reform for stuff not even in the bill, cause non of bothered to read the bill. I made my statement to my council on this issue lets see what they say.
