Why do the guitars sound like they are being played out of a tin can? I mean I can definitely see the Marshall amps behind them. Is this just bad audio perhaps? I heard that later on in their career, weezer used Line 6 POD guitar modeling processors through the P.A. system, instead of amps for an entire tour, due to budget.
EXACTLY..THATS WAT I HAV ALWAYS BEEN SAYIN..MATT SHARP AND WEEZER..ITS LIKE HE WAS BORN FOR WEEZE..I THINK THEY FELL APART WEN HE LEFT..BLUE ALBU AND PINKERTON WAS REAL WEEZER..BUT I STILL LUV WEEZER BCUZ OF WAT THEY DID N THERE EARLY YEARS..THEY HAD 2 OF THE BEST ROCK ALBUMS N THE 90'2 AND IT WAS REMINISCENT OF 1950'S ROCK AND ROLL WITH A SLIGHT PIECE OF GEEKY TOUCH TO IT..GREAT STUFF
@BiscuitsJoe Well, like I said I love River's voice, even if the song or songs do suck, if he's singing the song it's not completely bad to me. But "to each his own" I'm not forcing anyone to have my opinion.
@michaelkay : I'd say that's a pretty accurate synopsis of each weezer album released thus far. Blue and "Pink" still hold up as the best. Green and Maladroit were prob the last two " really good" weezer albums, even though bassist Matt Sharp was long gone by that point. I think weezer and Sharp should set their differences aside and regroup. Rivers Cuomo even admits that some of his favorite weezer moments were with with Matt Sharp. The original bassist brought a lot of fresh ideas to weezer.
@rowidz Yeah, but I don't think Matt would ever come back, especially not with the direction that the Weez is headed at the moment. He's got his own stuff going on, and if you like early weezer, you should check out his band the rentals.
@BiscuitsJoe Yep, Matt is never returning probably. There were lawsuits over song rights, arguments, etc...Actually, I have all the Rentals albums and the Matt Sharp solo albums. I'm not saying that weezer died without Matt Sharp, but there was certainly something stellar about them during the short time span he was in the band.
"It's a hideous record... It was such a hugely painful mistake that happened in front of hundreds of thousands of people and continues to happen on a grander and grander scale and just won't go away. It's like getting really drunk at a party and spilling your guts in front of everyone and feeling incredibly great and cathartic about it, and then waking up the next morning and realizing what a complete fool you made of yourself."- Rivers Cuomo..i like pink but Blue is the all time favorite
@shocker96 I've read that same quote before. River said that because he was ashamed of the 2nd worse album of the year rating the rolling stone gave it. However in time the brillence of the album became clear to the fans and critics. The writing is far deeper tahn anything weezer has ever put out. Maybe as you get old kid youll understand it better. Nowadays Rivers Rivers doesnt like to play pinkerton like because it is an album about a very difficult time in his life.
@lickapotato hey i know...ik im a kid,im 15 but iv heard it before and the only songs i liked were scorch, why bother, good life, falling for you, sex, triangle, across the sea....only thing i dont like about it is some of the songs are depressing, but like the blue albums songs are happy and i can relate to more
@shocker96 See that the thing! River wrote Pinkerton in one of the darkest points in his life. He was living an isolated life at harvard with no friends, no family, no love, and a busted leg. The songs range from longing to ask out the girl of your dreams but being to afraid too (el scorcho) to crushing the spirit of the one girl who loved you (butterfly). The song butterfly is about rivers tricking a girl who was in love with him into bed, but the next day he left her.
@shocker96 It hurts me to think of how bad rivers felt after what he did to that poor girl. If you know the story of madam butterfly you can see that rivers can really realate to the character pinkerton. This album is raw angry and emotional and its something weezer can never reproduce.

I hate when people say "you arent a true fan if you like/dont like this era." A true fan likes whatever the fuck he wants, regardless of everyone elses opinion. and, in my single opinion, blue and pinkerton were the best by far.
Eh? well no......i do like all their work, but I'm also a Metallica, Ramones, and TMV fan for instance. Those three bands have release a LOT of crap, but the rest is too golden to ever forget.
sadly when you are devout like that people then call you a nuthugger. I could care less. I love some of their stuff, and dislike some of their stuff. Oh well. That is what separates the hits from the dips.
I feel kind of sorry for Weezer. Some of their songs are really cool, but its not easy to dance or headbang to any of them, so it must always look like the crowd is only half interested.
"Pinkerton" is beastly, one of the greatest albums of all time. "The Blue Album" was as well fantastic. They almos truined themselves with the awful "Make Believe", but "The Red Album" was a step back in the right direction, though they haven't reclaimed this type of talent yet.
Yes it flopped and was his most personal album, but the old rivers was the way he was because of the way mathew sharp rubbed off on him. I bet if you put them in a room together for 3 months rivers would be back to his old ways.

Not the fact his most personal and (at the time) proud album was declared one of the worse albums of the year
